I have been an expat since 2005, loved it, married a Romanian woman, had kids, and now we are working on moving home to the USA. Much to consider, housing is one, our parents are helping with the transition. As my wife and son have only met my parents once it will be nice to get back into the family life instead of being alone abroad. 13 years in Cyprus, 7 years in Indonesia, 1 year in Vietnam, been a great ride and glad I did it.

We considered everything and retired in AZ. Beautiful winters. Summers hot, but we have a pool.

Wow, I loved this, thanks for covering this topic! YES on part 2. I would like to live in the warm weather (like TX) but The summer heat is brutal to some people. It's a trade off. I always say that here in the US, you either have a hot summer to deal with or a cold winter. Which could you live with the best? Really good topic, thanks!!
@HMFamilyLife3 күн бұрын
Good question, we'd rather have hot summers--we don't like harsh-cold winters. Thanks for watching!

We're looking at Cochise County in AZ.. permits are easily obtained.. and you can build with alt materials.. mostly limited to no restrictions.. and land is affordable still.

I moved from one of the most expensive states to the cheapest state. Now needing AC in the summer is still cheaper than heating in the winter. The only thing more costly is home insurance. I admit self insuring is stressful but other than that I wish I had moved at least 10 years sooner. Wishing you a great new year.

Hey, good morning you two! Would you believe that I now have this KZbin ad playing before your video promoting a new digital career specifically targeting "English speakers that are living abroad in Ecuador." I could not help but laugh at the irony.

In regards to your list of warmer weather states I noticed you did not include Arkansas although it's around and close to the ones you listed. Can you say why it's not on your list ? I've never been there so very curious.
@HMFamilyLife2 күн бұрын
Arkansas is a great state and there is no reason I didn't list it except I only wanted to name five states at this time. The video was already getting too long. There are lot's of states I didn't mention that would be great for living in.

That’s definitely what I’m doing while living abroad, saving up for a purchase, just don’t know what country it will be in. Have about 4 years to save before I actually think about it. Definitely not before my 3 year visa ends. Needs to be approved for the second round, but don’t think it will be here in Colombia 🇨🇴.

where is the new house for soooooooo cheap
@HMFamilyLife3 күн бұрын
😁 Don't we talk about finding your paradise and then keeping it a secret? If we all did that then we would move according to where we really want to be and most states wouldn't be bombarded with high priced housing and home insurance right now. lol.....
@carolinekaplan5423 күн бұрын
@ I think my point is that even with sweat equity but supplies a house is a hundred grand plus then upkeep. Many of my friends have thirty year old “ paid off “ houses that need to be redone. I rent a great place right near Notre dame that is posh a thousand square feet. I get a business deduction for home office . A guy named Jeremy fixes everything and for extra is my handyman to help out. I have a huge patio for my plants adjacent to pool and fitness and community center. By the time I take my deduction it’s cheaper than taxes and upkeep on any home. Utilities are reasonable too. Plus I have the flexibility to move vacation or relocate . Renting can be a good option if you aren’t stupid in what you spend.

I must ask where you got that bit of information. I have had diagnostic work done in Colombia and dental work done there. For example, go get a surround teeth x-ray in the USA and tell me the cost in USD. In Colombia it was $7.50 USD. How about this package; pap smear, mammogram, prostate, and kidney exams. Total cost for all, $70.00 USD. NO INSURANCE by the way. If I get insurance in Colombia, it would cost about $100.00 USD per month. All would be covered. My brother-in-law had a GI leak that could have killed him. He was in hospital for 40 days. He had at least 3 operations. With his insurance there was no cost to him. Don't get me started on meds. They are way more affordable in Colombia. You can buy 800 mg ibuprofino over the counter. Open your mind. The USA is a great country. But it is not the best country in the world in which to live.

I have been planning on getting out of the USA for at least the past 5 years. It does not matter who the party in charge is. The USA is circling the drain, and I don't want to live here anymore.
