Excellent review. I just picked up this card.

Amex was offering me 35K points for $4K spend over 6 months. When I got the card, I called to activate and confirm the offer. They told me the bonus offer had been reduced to $4K over 3 months. I immediately filed a complaint and they said it would take 3 weeks. I asked if I could send over the screenshot of my offer and they said no. When I called back to find out the decision, they said the $4K in 3 months stands. The agent offered to reopen the case with my screenshot but it would take 6-8 weeks for a decision. What nonsense. Such a terrible experience.

When I got American Express gold preferred reward card back in 2015 I was able to get 50,000 points for $1,000 of spent. That was awesome!

My favorite daily use card. 4x on dinning, 4x on groceries, $120 dinning credit, and $100 airline credit (great for short flights), and numerous Amex offers.

I put EVERYTHING on my gold card. I only use my other credit cards (which are $0 annual fee) once every two months just to keep them active. BTW there's a 50k point offer if you use safari in private mode on your iphone.

@@UponArriving My other big spend is gas. I have a Bank of america cash rewards. Which is 3% cash back on gas, but other then gas I use my gold card for everything.

@@bufftammy735 The gold card is awesome! I do use it a lot. That's my main credit card. However, don't forget about the business blue plus from American Express. It gets 2x points back on everything. Even though it is a business card, most people don't even realize that they qualify for a business card.

I believe this doesn't work anymore since AMEX knows how giftcards code or the travel credit only applies for incidentals. Someone can correct me but these were somewhat recent changes that I've read about on reddit/myfico

@@RedBBR443 Lounge purchases do count. It would all depend on if the purchased gets coded as a longer purchase or a gift card.

Bryan Hyland I’m not sure if is still up but google intervested99 on reddit he got the link, but make sure try different browsers. I got approve on Wednesday and I chat with Amex make sure the offer is 50k/2000 and it was indeed.

That’s a high evaluation on the points, where do you transfer your points that gives you that ratio?

I use MR almost exclusively for premium cabins so I usually get much more than 1.75. Usually close to 4 or 5 cents per point or more. But this number is based on an average of blog valuations which I find strikes (somewhat) of a balance between economy and premium redemptions. At the end of the day, valuations are very subjective.

You can also use the dining credit for purchased from Boxed.com. Boxed was added to the list a few months ago but I do not see anyone talking about it.

I just got approve for the Amex Gold Card February 7th. In inquired by chat today, and asked if the travel incidental, and restaurant credit is calendar year, or cardholder anniversary year. He informed me that both credits are calendar year, and that I only get the $10 per month restaurant credit 11 times which equals a credit of $110. Does this seem right?

Yes they are both calendar year. You’ll get $120 per year but since January is already passed, you’ll only get $110 for 2020.
