Dear friend, good effort from your side, thanks! Just need to correct one thing in your terminology related to Folder hierarchy and relationship. Everyone should understand three important symbols (\ .. .)while working in Command Prompt of Windows based OSes. The backslash symbol (\) denotes Root directory and not parent directory in folder hierarchy. For Parent directory (..) double-dots symbol is used while single dot (.) denotes current directory. Considering your example of C:\Users\Admin folder tree, the parent directory of Admin folder is not C, rather C:\Users. That's why whenever we use CD.. command, it takes us one step backward, whereas CD\ will take you to the root of your partition, no matter which partition you were working on. I sincerely apologize if I have injured anyone's feelings by posting this comment. Hope you understand.

Super, thank you ! There is practically nothing about cmd in KZbin at all, and here is such a detailed and wonderful explanation ! CMD is a very powerful tool, even now some advanced optimizers are ordinary .bat file ! Moreover, it takes up to 1 MB and does everything too (and even much more) than the classic windows optimizers.

Good refresher, this reminds me of early 90's when I took my first IT course. we were told that Windows sits on the top of DOS . So MSDOS was needed to install windows using floppy disks. Thanks for this beautiful and clear video.

Note: Encryption 59:00 > cipher is not supported on Home editions of Windows as it uses the Encrypting File System (EFS). This means you'll get a "Request not supported error".

that's mostly Computing 101 .... Before Windows, it was ONLY CMD... in earlier versions of Windows (5 and older), it was called DOS dropped commands btw.

Hi, very useful course. But I have 1 question: I tried to hide files in folder: I opened cmd in the folder, than I wrote: attrib +h +r +s. Files in Explorer are grey - (even after refresh Explorer) and they didn't disappear.

I hope people are not using ping on a daily basis, disable ICMP for your own good :D Great video!

Disabling ping does not meaningfully increase security; it only makes troubleshooting and network monitoring much more difficult. If turning off ping increases network security, it only slightly slows down the most basic and unskilled cyber hacker. All other services such as HTTP(S), FTP, SMB, etc. are still running and likely discoverable

Maybe someone has seen a similar issue before. If I create an Excel file like "type nul> check.xlsx", the file is indeed populated under the cd. However, if I try to open it, it gives a message stating that either the extension or format are not valid. Does somebody know what might cause this?

hello, Excel creates an skeleton of a propietary file, even on an empty file when it is saved, the file itself contains your data and something know as file metadata, the command "type nul > file.xlsx" just creates an empty file of type text, it lacks of any metadata, that's why excel doesn't recognized it as a "propietary file". That's why when you create an empty excel file its size is greater than zero.

I don‘t get one thing on IT learning courses on KZbin: WHY the majority of them have such a crappy audio quality? To clarify that: You want people to learn something from you, then the should understand you! No muffled sound, the first chapter of the video was annoying but the audio was fine, and the rest sounded like if record the audio with a phone call from Indian over USA over Europa and to China. Sry but that is so frustrating, since i have several learning videos before where either the speaking of person is so limited based on an accent and/or the mic quality is so bad.

Anyone serious about Window OS management from DOS 3 to Server 2022 and beyond. As a system administrator, I’m responsible for 100+ of 1,000’s servers; where mine are virtual and hosting in a large Citrix environment. Also, I create images for desktop / laptop used around our site. I use CMD and PowerShell more than the GUI. As do the other 80+ admins. Any computer tech worth using will know the things shown here to get past the limitations GUI interfaces have.
