The F6F Hellcat fighter is the successor model of the F4F fighter "Wildcat". It is the standard carrier-based fighter of the U.S. Navy in World War II. It is the main opponent of the Japanese Zero fighter.
The F6F fighter jet was developed by the American Grumman Company in 1938, first flew on June 26, 1942, and entered service in September 1943. During World War II, a total of 12,272 were produced, of which 11,000 were built within two years.
