Very interesting design. It’s like half Scandinavian and half American. I like the vibe. Mods are cool too, that handle looks really nice to use.

Thank you! Most of the time I don't use it. the trees I work on are soo small that it's much better to use a lighter axe.

Your point about hand tools being fun to use is definitely something you appreciate more over time. Something about the feeling of a well made tool in experienced hands cant be understated.

the head is actually 3.25lb or 1.5kg which is a nice weight. i dont use anything over 32" unless cutting logs over 20" in diameter. I'm kinda tempted to get one of these to see what they are like stock but i often order the replacement handles for this and like you said way too thick

I’m guessing that the weight on the website is with handle. I didn’t think too much about that. The handle coming think I don’t mind since I like to carve it to my liking. I put in some pretty fun curves and some groves by the swell. I’ve never bought an axe that I have not modified. But I’ve yet to by something like a Lamca!

I also have to say that having spend about a hundred hours watching your content and reading you thoughts on heads and handles, receiving a comment from you made me very happy! Glad that you felt like the video was worth commenting on. I try not to create content for anyone other than myself, but getting a comment like this doesn’t hurt my motivation!

@@moonlightfarmer cheers! Yeah i do it mostly for myself too, its nice though that the channel has grown so much. The only axes i havent modified the handles on are council tool and tuatahi. Its nice to be ableto make it fit you better but i dont like paying 3 timesmore for an axe that needs the same work put into it. Hence i am not so keen on most gransfors axes. I like thier splitting maul though, thats a good tool

@@benscottwoodchopper I respect that! I’m looking forward to trying more brands and types. Since I live in Sweden, these are the axes that I have the easiest access to. I have heard great things about council tools boys axe and will be looking at getting one soon!

Great video. Next time, put your basket in front of your pile with the open side facing you,. You then pick up the kindling and toss it directly into the carrier. One simple motion, no need to reach around the handle or to twist your back. You remain stationary and your arms do all the work & movement. Plus, you'll fill up the basket super fast. 😊

do you really absolutely have to modify the handle on these? Im pretty new to axe stuff, I’ve been wanting to get a GB Scandinavian axe but I feel like I’ll outgrow it fast. The American felling looks really nice but I wasn’t aware of the thick handle..

Sorry for the late reply! For me it has become a must! A thinner handle have more pros than cons!

Very good I like the modification to the handle like you said those handles are very thick and need some work. But once you do a good tool. Very much agree that most people don't need a full size anyway I just keep one around these days incase of any big stuff like the council tool Jersey pattern which is very nice for big wood but the 90cm handle is annoying for anything under 30cm diameter.

Chopping the log of course creates a lot of waste, but if you picture yourself Paul Bunyan have at it.
