Kobyz is one of the most ancient Kazakh folk instruments. Since the time of Korkyt, the kobyz was an instrument possessing magical power, connecting a man with a world of spirits.The kyl kyyak (sometimes spelt kyl kiak and sometimes without the 'kyl') is a stringed musical instrument used in Kyrgyz music. The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot) and typically measures 60-70 cm. It has 2 strings, one to provide melody and the other resonance. The kyl kyyak is played vertically with a bow and can be played on horseback. The strings and bow are normally made from horse hair and many instruments feature a carved horse's head. This all reflects the importance of the horse in Kyrgyz rural culture. Thak you.

I think that maybe perhaps you're getting this feeling of movies being the vibe, because of his use of cultural instruments,blending the old with the new instruments and their sounds together, especially Kazakhstans instruments. This is his Country, his home, he's very proud of Kazakh people , his culture & the history of all their ancestors who came before. Dimash represents the worlds music, he sings in #13 languages and speaks five of them fluently. Dimashs performances aren't stepping into some character, he only sings the songs with lyrics that connect to feelings of his heart his own emotions that lay within the depths of his very soul ....... "DIMASH" is the character. I went to see Dimash in New York 2019, at the Barclay center,it sold out in less than ten... minutes,when I bought my ticket, the lady told me that this was an arena with twenty thousand seats that surrounded an open floor, the stage was in the center, rest of the area was all open for standing room only. I guesstimated about thirty thousand people including myself were there. I really don't have the words to explain what it was like to see this young mans concert, it was beyond any words in the worlds languages. Dimashs concert was every emotion but the negative,phenomenal Electricity was in the air, throughout the entire arena, there were people from other states who came to see Dimash, I met other people who told me they flew in from Romania,and from Istanbul to see Dimash. I've seen a few great concerts in my life, Like "Queen" twice, There's nothing and no one that can compare to what I "witnessed" and experienced being at Dimashs concert. I'm sorry if I sound as if I am rambling....but I just don't know how else to complete a full picture in your mind of what Dimashs concerts are like, what he has & gives that feeds the souls of every human being blessed to see this extraordinary human being with a power like no other. Do you know, or heard of any singer like Dimash? One who can silence thousands of people in stadiums all around the world with just the power of his presence?? I didn't know of any one, until I saw Dimashs concert I was captivated like a hypnotic mesmerizing way, I was thinking wow I'm 57 years old been a nun for 41 of those years, I've seen & been through just about everything,with & for people serving in eighty five countries. Well I have never saw or experienced this. What I can tell you for sure,Dimash truly loves everybody that is the truth . I know that so many people, they try to figure out how it is even possible to sing with a voice & range that far surpasses the highest & lowest keys on the piano & the keyboard.How does he do it? Wait my new friend because you have only heard a small part of what he's capable of. I don't care how many years you listen to him because he will always shock you, that's a fact.Dimashs voice isn't just a voice... it is an instrument ... "Literally". Dimash can replicate the sound of every instrument, this is not an exaggeration it's a fact. I believe people don't understand and can't figure it out because he's the only human being in the world who can mimic thousands Of instruments that are man made from all over the world. Dimash can play more than nine instruments, He never had to take lessons to learn how to play any of them... But... as a tiny boy his grandfather taught Dimash how to play the Dumbra, I don't know if I spelled it right. Anyway. I could go on and on because this is a small amount of what this God given talented young man has achieved in his 27 years of life, And in just a few weeks Dimash will have his Doctorate,PhD in Composition & lyrical writing, many people don't even know that Dimash is a composer and has written and composed many of his own songs. Dimash (pronounced Dim-ah-sh) is always unbelievably amazing. “Stranger” was created by Russian songwriter Igor Krutoy, and the lyrics were written by American poetess Sharon Vaughn. The main arrangement was made by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan). Igor Krutoy said, “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way.” The solo instrument heard at the beginning is called a kobyz which is an ancient Kazakh instrument. The idea to add the kobyz to this song came to Dimash after he first heard the tune of “Stranger”. The singer realised that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exquisite sound. Dimash has always been anxious to popularise traditional Kazakh music. So, he really wanted the kobyz to be played on a big stage like Sochi’s New Wave Hall Dimash said, “We invited our talented friend Olzhas Qurmanbek to perform the kobyz in “Stranger”, because he is considered the best kobyz player, who managed to fully convey the emotions and character of the song. Thanks to him the song got its outstanding and unique sound. I’ve always dreamed of the kobyz to be heard in my foreign collabs.”

On August 19, 2021, for the first time the sound of kobyz was heard on the stage of the New Wave Hall in Sochi Olympic Park. It is playing the best Kobys player in the world, Dimash’s friend Olzhas Qurmanbeck. The Kobyz (co-biz) or kylkobyz (keel-co-biz) is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument, spread among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. The Kyrgyz variant is called the kyl-kyyak. The qobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather.
