I grew up not far from Superdawg. Love that place. Superdawg is the quintessential Chicago dog. My Mom also grew up in the neighborhood and loved going to Superdawg. Love the drive in and 1950's fell of the place. When you see Maurie and Flaurie, you know it's about to get good.

I miss living in the Chicago area. It seemed like every block had an Italian Beef/hotdog/burger/gyro restaurant. I never went to a bad one, but some were better than others. I love how you get fries with the sandwich. I would get 2 dogs at Johnny's Beef and it was a cheap meal.

You forgot about tavern style pizza. Now everybody knows Chicago deep dish /Chicago stufffed pan pizza. That's the tourist trap thing, it's okay. ONCE in a blue moon it's okay too have. Everybody in the city has their favorite neighborhood pizza PLACE. I made pizzas for 40-plus years.

True Chicagoans probably think this place is trash, but I had an Italian beef from Portillos about 10 years back when I visited, and it was one of the best things I ever ate. There are plenty of Philly cheesesteak places here in California, but zero Italian beef. I think the Italian beef easily beats a cheesesteak.

I recall seeing Superdawg on the Travel Channel’s program “Hot Dog Paradise” it originally aired in 2008. I do recall that they didn’t serve ketchup on their hotdogs. Did they relax their policy, lol? Also, the owners were Maurie and Flaurie Berman. Looks like they both passed on 7 and 10 years later, respectively. At least they remain in memory on the rooftop.

It's 12 bucks for the loaded double cheeseburger and fries, 10.25 for the dog combo, and under 7 for a large REAL ice cream shake. Those are perfectly reasonable prices for the type of food I'm seeing. Even McDonalds prices are close to that for a combo meal. I'm not sure what middle-of-nowhere town you're from, but it's not easy to find well made food for much cheaper than that anywhere in the country. Even the trashiest place would easily be over $10 for a double burger, fries, and shake, but it DEFINITELY wouldn't be this type of quality. The state of the economy is not the fault of the restaurant.
