It always amuses me to hear, "As American as apple pie'. Apple pies were made in the UK centuries before the colonisation of what became the US (first written recipe dates back to an English Cookbook published in 1381). In fact, since apple trees aren't native to the US, you can thank us for even having home-grown apples to eat at all... 😉

I live in a small town in Germany where we have numerous villages within a 15 kilometer radius. There are three bigger organic farms and a few small ones and two big organic mills that produce bread, cereal or just plain flour and seeds for sale. I can go there or buy their stuff in the local supermarket or farmers market. Sometimes I forget how easy it is for us to buy local healthy food. Soon there will be their annual celebrations where we go to the farms, have a look at the fields, stables and grazing lands, listen to music or lectures, have their food and let the children play in the haystacks. Fun times! 🌸

fast food (or if I can say junk food) - such as those with "clown or colonel" mascot - are actually very well known in Asia as the representative of American food ... and obviously, these restaurants are one reason why issue of obesity came out - including in Indonesia Almost all nutritionists always say "stop eating too much fast food, start eating local food instead" 😁🙏

Fast food is horrible. It’s hard to be healthy when trying to eat at any of those places too if you’re looking for something quick and convenient. But it’s hard to eat healthy even without fast food. It’s just so incredibly expensive to eat healthy. And a huge majority of food is processed, has chemicals, etc.

Many US brands sell their stuff under the same name in europe, but with different ingrediences. Fruit Loops for example are sold here too, but they contain different food colours. So many of your brands have other recipies for the european market, but they chose not to use them on the US market

Bringing up a child in the US must be difficult re food. But I would suggest that the number one priority should be to limit sugar intake. The US seems to put sugar, in one form or another, in just about everything

I meet a lot of Americans and although they complain about not being spicy enough,they all say they feel healthier after eating in Europe for a time and lose weight and skin conditions clear up , and some when they come back have said they got sick when they went home. , and I have had some not return as they were convinced we were poisoning them as the American food were f,d,a approved so it must have been our food. I would recommend the video about bread , and the video about American chocolate and Europe's / UK Cadbury chocolate

Well as for coke, there are so many better local alternatives, Coca Cola really only has its name and omnipresent availability to it. But whenever I have a choice of coke or something local, it's the latter for me! In fact the german state of Thüringen, quite near my home, is the only region in the world where a local cola sells better than Coca Cola. It goes by the name of Vita Cola and was created when the state was part of East Germany (and thus the estern block) during the cold war. Coca Cola wasn't availabe but people still wanted a black, sweet and fizzy drink. And the result was so great that it acutally survived german reunification, along with only a handfull of other former east german brands. If you want to learn what else we germans came up with when Coca Cola wasn't available for some reason, check out the history of Fanta! 😅

Scotland is the only country where Coke isn't banned, that it's not the number1 soft drink, that title goes to Irn Bru. Most people trying Hershey chocolate for the first time say it tastes of vomit, that's because one of the chemicals they use is found in vomit. Quite a number of Americans that have moved to Europe say that without altering or reducing their diet, they've lost weight and feel healthier. In fact some have said they had allergies to certain foods in the US, that disappeared with the European equivalent.

Meat is NOT bad for you, the doctrine - everything in moderation is right. Meat is essential for a balanced diet. Removing it requires constant supplements to manage the nutrients imbalance. Do you know what the crazy thing is? In other countries they sell many of the products without the carcinogen and poisons in them. It's American consumers that demand the bright colours and sharp distinctive artificial flavours... Fruit Loops over here look very different, compared to yours the colours and flavouring used are very withdrawn.

You are facing the unpleasant realisation that most American foodstuffs are banned around the world because of the ingredients, additives, extra sugar, etc. The governing body in the USA is the FDA, and this is an organisation on whom the public depend for the health and safety of their food, but whose real function is to aid and support the entirety of the food probuction industry. Good luck with your search for better food for your family, it will be a long and tiring journey. For your bucket list, have a couple of weeks in Europe and taste the difference. Best regards, and good luck with the channel.

@@Killermcknight Good luck to your future with better food. I've been a regular visitor to most parts of America for over thirty years, and a regular user of both restaurants and supermarkets, and have noted a marked change over the years in the quality of the food and of the increasing quantity of additives and preservatives, most of which are banned elsewhere in the world due to proven health issues. American friends who come to Europe are uniformly stunned at the differences in flavours of too many foods to list. American bread is akin to cake in Europe because of the amount of sugar within it, and I'd pay money to watch your faces as you tasted a French baguette for the first time, perhaps with real butter and some soft cheese. Egg yolks are a bright yellow. One day soon perhaps. I think Americans live too close to the problem, but some separation may be coming. You will be reading about the sea change facing the fast food industry because of costs, wage increases, etc, and people are starting to economise by eating at home more regularly, and younger people are becoming more critically aware of what is actually on their plates. Read the labels, accept no bald health claims - Special K - and stay clear of the various sugars, fructose, etc, with which your food is adulterated for corporate profit. A huge job guys, sorry, but you're not alone in wanting something safer to eat. Regards, and good luck.

So really, when you see what's in American food, it can make you sick. And the citizens have to eat this every day. I wouldn't even give an animal what they have to eat there, but apparently animal food is better than what a person has to eat there. I know it's sarcastic now, but it's not.

I have eaten octopus tartare in Krakow when I was visiting. Tend to eat my steaks blue, though a lot of places (particularly in Scotland) stopped serving blue steaks following the BSE outbreak (along with a ban on T-bone steaks). American food manufacture is all about costs and profit - bread is sold in stores in the US that has a shelf life well over a week, in France bread is largely baked fresh every day so natural ingredients and no need for preservatives.
@Killermcknight
@Killermcknight 16 күн бұрын
Oooh that’s a first I’ve heard of octopus tartar, that’s interesting! Steaks served blue is not very common, I used to work at a steak house for 6 years and had only seen it a handful of times. Why a ban on t-bones? Yes, and it’s crazy to think “this bread expires in a week, we have to hurry and eat it before it goes bad” but in places like France it would be easy to do that because it’s fresh and delicious.

US Americans are the only nation in the developed world with decreasing life expectation. USA ranked #48 in 2023 regarding avg life expectation. 4 - 5 yrs shorter life span compared to Europeans. Yes, American chocolate tastes a bit like vomit. There is a video available that explains why. I am surprised that the analogue cheese was not mentioned and the milk. The EU possess the highest food safety standards and consumer protection standards globally. Thus, there are no food bans. But of course, there are products that are regarded as unhealthy due to their unhealthy, addictive sugar-fat ratio or too much salt...french fries, potato chips, ketchup, sweets in general, white / wheat toast bread, frozen pizza...in general, people know that processed food, convenient food and fast food is a No -no. Artificial sweeteners are an issue. Tney are fake bcs finally they increase the appetite and were originally developed to get pigs as fast as possible fat. There is the suspicion that they cause cancer. Fat reduced products usually possess more sugar, a thumbnail. All these diet or light products are a scam. From my experience Europeans are much better educated and informed about nutrition.
