The fifth Pakistani wicket was given out LBW which is 'leg before wicket.' If a batsman misses a ball with the bat and his leg is struck in front of his wicket, the fielding team will appeal. If the umpire decides that the ball would have gone on to hit the wicket if the legs hadn't been in the way, then he will give the batsman out lbw.

It's worth noting that even though it's called "leg" before wicket actually any part of your body will do (except hands, considered part of the bat), as long as the ball could have hit the wicket. If you duck down to avoid a bouncer and get hit in the head, you can still be out lbw.

Taking early wickets is good, you are getting their best batsman out cheaply, which in turn puts pressure on the middle order to play more conservatively than they are used too which can lead to slow run rates or more wickets as they are playing in a way uncomfortable to them. LBW(blocking), the umpire decides the ball will hit the stumps if the batsman leg/body wasnt there. If you can try and catch a full game live which will help you alot cause they are explaining alot of the rules to help the american viewers, you should watch India vs Pakistan, it should be a great match and also if India win that will help USA reach the next stage.

I'm from Pakistan and I can officially confirm that this is the biggest loss for Pakistan in the history of its cricket. all of our major news channels, news anchor, panelist they were so upset that several of them even were crying and they have described this as the death of Pakistani cricket. Now obviously that is not true but nobody was expecting this. There were giant LED TV boards outside in the streets thousands of people in capacity were watching 2 nights ago And they were in shock. There were brawls there too, That's how upset people were. People were so upset they were several fights that took place that night. Overall congratulations to United States cricket team for defeating not only former T20 World Champion Pakistan, but also defeating World Cup finalist team from last year in Pakistan.🎉❤

I see plenty of people have explained that wickets do still matter in T20. I will just point out that when they put "Team need x from y balls," x means the amount of runs needed to win. So in the USA's final ball of their inning the score said "USA need 5 from 1 ball." The batter hit a 4 point boundary which tied it to send it to the Super Over

When 5 Runs Needed from Lat 1 ball left.. If USA Hitted A SIX instead of FOUR, they could have WIN there itself. Since they could hit only FOUR. so match is TIED. No BALLS left to play game. In earlier days of cricket if such situation comes, there used to decide THE WINNER By TAILING A COIN. By calling HEADS & TAIL. whoever calls correct, that team will win. That method was not proper since probability of the coin which comes hitting ground can wary every times if tried. So International Cricket Council (ICC) Comes up changing this method of deciding the winners. Then new things comes out. Both Team will get ONE OVER TO BOWL. No BASTMAN INVOLVED THERE. Six Bowlers of each team will bowl towards the opposite cricket stumps. Which team HITS MORE ON CRICKET WICKET BY BALL, WILL BE ANNOUNCED AS WINNER. Just like in FOOTBALL, After giving EXTRA TIMES, THE WINNERS WILL BE DECIDED BY HITTING THE GOAL TOWARDS GOAL KEEPER(SUDDEN DEATH). Now This also changed by ICC. Now Winner is decided by Playing ONE SUPER OVER. IF both teams SCORE TIED IN SUPER OVER.. Then Again One more SUPER OVER WILL BE GIVEN. Untill the REAL WINNER DECIDES.. I hope I cleared ur doubt

Of course losing wickets is bad because you may lose your best players from the top of your batting order - which is another part of Cricket strategy. Where do you place your best batsmen in the order? They can only be used once in an innings. Bring them on early on to do damage, or later on to finish up? You can always work through your batting order by getting your batsmen to take more wild shots to risk getting out - which may pay off with many runs - or not. Cricket has a lot of strategy.

Just wanted to comment and say, I have watched your journey since the football WC when you first were figuring out the sport, to learning the history of the game, and then on to you playing it yourself. The journey has been nothing but amazing, especially given that Americans tend to treat Football as a soft or kids sport, or sometimes a sport that's not taken seriously, or a sport for immigrants. Its even more amazing to now see you reacting to cricket and picking up the rules this quickly (even though its a one off vid apart from when you dabbled in checking it our previously). I must say the way you pick up the rules of the game is quite impressive. The willingness to learn is remarkable. Nothing but respect to you for doing this, regardless of the sport. Both Cricket and Football are quite near and dear to me. I actually will be heading to about 6-7 matches for this cricket WC given it taking place in my part of the world (The West Indies). Hope to see you follow the USA team along on their journey (even if its not with online content) and more importantly, going with the grain and enjoying sports the rest of the world also likes, and not bashing the sport because its not traditionally played in the States. Keep it up bro! PS: Wickets matter in the exact same way Outs matter in baseball. In T20 cricket each team bats just once, therefore there is only one inning each. So to compare it to baseball terms, 3 Outs retire the batting team's inning. The same exact concept goes for cricket, 10 wickets retire the team's inning. Hope that helps. In short, Wickets = Outs.... And there are 10 wickets in an inning.

Imagine we are chasing 170 and opponent team takes the wicket of virat or dhoni then we switch off our TV thinking now there is no one left who can chase the target like that and from opponents perspective they strategies taking virats wicket because after him no one left who can chase the target
@dr.shaun.g5 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right , the fifth wicket you were wondering is the batter blocking the wickets/3 stumps. It is called LBW (Leg Before Wicket). If the batter ask umpire to review (each team has 3 reviews allowed), then the Hawkeye cameras (ball tracking cameras) come into play which shows the 3rd umpire sitting in room full of screens with all 22 camera views. If the Hawkeye helps decide if the batter has blocked the ball that was going to hit the wickets or miss the wicket - hence, the out or Not Out decision is displayed on stadium screens. Thank you for your fantastic understanding of cricket. In nutshell, apart from the ball hitting the wickets or being caught by player, LBW is another way of throwing out the batter.

After all, the USA has proven itself worthy by defeating Surrenderstan (Pakistan's new nickname), who had plenty of World Cup experience but still fell flat against a newer team. Hats off to all the USA players, especially Saurabh Netravalkar, who moved from Mumbai, India to the USA and is now representing them on the field! You can bowl all 10 batters out in T20. It's actually been happening quite a lot in this World Cup. People have been blaming the pitches in the US, but it's been happening in the matches in the Caribbean too - which are all cricket stadiums with long histories. But also - teams always front-load their batting with their best guys. So if you can get a few early wickets, you end up with the most important parts of the match being batted by people who maybe aren't as comfortable batting - or are downright poor at batting and are specialised bowlers. So that can significantly lower the score the other team manages to get. Because of that, teams usually stick a big-hitter at like 4th in the line-up. But there's always a little bit of risk in that, because if there are no wickets, then you might have just benched your best guy, effectively. That final ball was amazing, because all three outcomes were in the picture. If Aaron Jones had smacked it out of the park for 6, then USA would have won there and then, if he had got a 4 like he did, then it went to the super over. But anything else and Pakistan would have won. So if a fielder had managed to stop that ball before it got to the boundary, then Pakistan would have won it there. There was so much pressure on his to hit the ball in an a gap between fielders. It was incredible technique and composure.

No. Of wickets matter for 2 reasons: first, if a 10 batters are out before finishing 20 overs than can’t bat the remaining overs. They are called 'all out' Second, usually persons come to bat after 6/7 wicket are mainly bowlers. That means they may not be as efficient as a batter like their predecessors. So, taking more wicket means you are exposing your opponents weak batters (who are mainly bowlers) So, statistically wicket don’t matter much unless a team gets 10 wickets of the opponent. But it matters in a gameplay and strategies. As example, if you are a batter who came to bat after 1/2 wickets and you have 10 overs (60 balls) remaining in the game, you know that you have 7 batters left even if you get out at that point. So you play more freely, try to score more runs and take risks. But if you are batter who came to bat after 5/6 wicket that with 60 balls remaining you know that there's only 4 batters left after you who are most likely bowlers and can’t bat as efficiently as you so you take less risk to preserve your wicket hence less runs. So, your gameplay as a batter depends on the wickets remaining.
@Kaafiristani5 ай бұрын
Each team of 11 players gets 20 overs to bat, you need get 10 batters out and then the opposing team has to chase down the runs scored by the first team in 20 overs. 1 over = 6 Legitimate Deliveries or Pitches as you call it in Baseball. If the scores are tied at the end of 40 overs (20+20) the teams get a super over each .i.e 1 over of 6 deliveries each to hammer out a result. Which is rare and happened in this match. USA won the match in the super over.

So let me get this right. 1. Teams take turns batting 2. The second team needs to match/ surpass the points scored by the first batting team 3. By catching a ball you remove a player from the game 4. When all players are removed their turn ends even if there are still pitches to be played 5. So basically you need to score as many points while also not getting your players/ wickets taken out Did I get the general idea behind the rules/ game play of cricket

@@wuxiagamescentralyou're on point, especially the 4th point of yours. You got that correct. And that's all you need to know to enjoy the game, the more intricacies you'll learn by spending time with the game. Btw these matches are being held at New pitches. 9:08 USA required 5 runs from 1 legitimate ball. The Batsman score a Boundary NOT SIX. A boundary means 4 runs not 6. 6 means when the ball directly landed over the rope/ boundaries. 4 when the ball either roles through boundary or just bounced one or multiple times inside the rope. So that was 4 runs Which means both team scored exactly same runs. 159 in this case. So in this case which teams lost how many wickets doesn't matter. Just like in Football If scores are level, we have penalty shootout, here in cricket we have Super Over. Means again, both team will bat for 1 over/ 6 balls. And then they will again try to score as many runs as possible and then the team who batted first will then defend the runs ehich they scored. Nowadays, the team USA in this case who were batting in the second innings for 20 overs will ideally bat first in the super over. Which they did and scored 18 runs. Then Pakistan had to come back again to score those runs + 1 additional run for victory which they were not able to do. Hence USA had an extraordinary and thrilling victory 😊

Bro.. There are 11 players in the team and two bat together.. That means u have 10 wickets only.. That's why u see 6,7...etc after the runs.. Again 10 WICKETS in total... so if u get 10 wickets before 20 overs are complete that's ur final score.. no more batters can come out to bat & as others have already mentioned as u loose more wickets u see bowlers/pitchers coming into bat.. so obviously as they are less capable batsmen.. it is always advantageous for the bowling-side to pick as many wickets as possible.

Cricket is something that gets easier to understand when you have more context. I tend to compare it more to NFL in that sense, it's a game that has so many subtleties that you need something to bring you in to it until you understand it before you can really start to enjoy it. There are 37(?) named fielding positions so when you get familiar with the game you'll start to get an idea of why a fielding team has 3 or 4 'slips' or when they'll settle for 2 and have more deep fielders to protect the boundaries. You're right in a sense that the wickets matters a bit less in T20 as getting a team all out doesn't happen as often, BUT generally a batting order is arranged in the order of batting quality, so the more wickets you get, the lesser quality of batter you're facing, so while you probably don't win on wickets, you're definitely getting an advantage as the wicket count goes up. If you're interested in learning more about the sport, I'd maybe suggest trying a collab with the Cricket For Americans channel, and stream reactions to a game so you can have some of the nuances explained

But unfortunately, International Cricket Council doesn’t consider it. They consider only runs for winning the game. That’s why teams had to play super over (one extra over in game) to determine final winner.

Then team can take 10 wickets either inside 20 overs or sometimes the first pair itself can play complete 20 overs/ 120 balls. Imagine 10 wickets got lost inside 10 overs then the 11 player will be stranded alone without any partners to play. And he remains stranded.

basically, there are 2 types of boundaries. if the ball flies directly out of the boundary after touching the bat then it is a 6. if the ball doesn't fly directly and bounces in between after connection with the bat then it's a 4. Also wicket no 5 which u didn't get understand is called leg before wicket or LBW in short form. Over there the batsman is given out because he basically blocked the stumps (those 3 wicket things) with legs. and there are even rules for LBW but for now this would do the job for beginners. Superover is like a penalty where each team is given an over (which is 6 balls) to score as much as possible and the team that scores more wins.

A cricket team is made by a combination of batters all-rounders and bowlers and there are only 11 slots so top 6 or 7 of a cricket team consists of batters and all-rounders who can do both ball and bat and the rest 5 are bowlers so this is how wickets effects the game,Each time a wickets fall it effects the score of team because teams only have 10 wickets so every time a wickets falls the team lose a batter and there are only 7-8 batters in a team and the rest 4-5 players are bowlers who doesn't know to bat and if a team losses all there 10 wickets that's it that's end of the innings because all of their players got out

In cricket, the team that scores more than the opposite team is the winner. Wickets don't matter at all unless the match is affected by rain. In this scenario, we use D/L method formula that considers all the wickets lost, runs on board at the time of match stoppage n then gives a projected target for the chasing team.

As Pakistan lost me , my wife and my younger brother laughed and My father almost had an heartattack with laugh after US' victory . Okay for the 5th wicket of Pakistan it's called LBW and yes that batsman ( I don't know his name because I have never seen or heard of him before) was blocking the wickets . Each over has 6 deliveries (except Wide and No balls) so US needed 94 runs in 9.5 overs which means 9*5 +6 =59 balls.

I'll try and answer most of your questions. 1. In cricket, usually the best BATSMEN start in a descending order. So basically, after 5-6 wickets, only BOWLERS are left who are not good at batting. Hence, first few wickets are very important. 2. Yes, he was blocking the wicket(stumps), That is illegal and if the umpire thinks that the ball would've hit the wicket, he can give OUT. Ofcourse you can challenge/review later. 3. You get 10 wickets and 20 overs at the start of your innings. If you run out of either one, Innings Ends. For example, if you lose 10 wickets before 20 overs, you are done or if you bat 20 overs with wickets remaining, you are done. 4. Wickets are like lives in a game. You get 10 lives and you have to use them to get runs. Like Pakistan scored 159 runs and lost 7 wickets. Now USA has to score 160 runs and it doesn't matter how many wickets they lose to get that score. 5. During that last ball, USA was at 155 runs. They needed 5 runs to win. But he scored a 4 (you thought it was a 6). Which makes them both tied at 159 runs. This is where SUPEROVER comes. Its basically a tie breaker. Both teams get 1 over (6 balls) to bat. Same rules, whoever scores more runs in 6 balls, WINS.
@nikhilanand32835 ай бұрын
1. Yes, indeed it is fantastic to have a wicket so early and that too with such a great fielding effort. It definetly boosts the morale of the entire team. 2. You’re correct about the dismissal at the 5th wicket. The batsman was obstructing the stumps, which in cricket is termed as LBW (Leg Before Wicket). In an LBW situation, the batsman fails to make contact with the ball using the bat, resulting in an LBW dismissal. To understand it better, imagine if the batsman’s leg wasn’t in the way, the ball would continue its trajectory and hit the stumps. Therefore, if the batsman doesn’t strike the ball with the bat and instead uses any other part of the body to intercept the ball, where it could have hit the stumps, the batsman would be adjudged out. 3. In cricket, each team is allowed to field 10 batsmen during an innings. Consequently, if all 10 batsmen are dismissed, the innings concludes. This rule applies uniformly to all formats of the game, including T20, ODI, and Test cricket. Therefore, if a bowling team manages to dismiss all ten batsmen of the opposing team within 20 overs, the innings will end prematurely, even if the allotted 20 overs have not been fully utilized. 4. In T20 cricket, if the match ends with both teams scoring the same number of runs, a Super Over is used to break the tie. Each team selects three batsmen and one bowler for the Super Over. The team that batted second in the match bats first in the Super Over. Just like in soccer, each team gets a chance to score (runs in cricket, goals in soccer). In cricket, the team bowls one over (six balls), and the team that scores the most runs in their over wins the match. If the Super Over also ends in a tie, the winner may be decided by the number of boundaries scored throughout the match or another Super Over may be played. So, in essence, a Super Over in cricket is like a concentrated, high-pressure mini-match, just as a penalty shootout is a condensed version of a soccer game, with both designed to deliver a clear winner in a tied contest. I hope my comments help boost your cricket knowledge.

wickets are important because not all players are batsman in a team, if bowlers come out to bat they are not as efficient. in cricket all 11 players must be the only players playing the match. you can have "all rounders" that are good at both bating and bowling but they are very rare and almost never on level of bowling and batting specialist.
@sagnikchakraborty12155 ай бұрын
1:40 - Yes. Scalping early wickets puts the batting team into pressure and reduces the projected score by almost 30-40 runs
@anguspaterson57135 ай бұрын
8.20 that’s a fair question but the point of taking wickets you’re getting the better batters out so then a) you’re bowling the rest of your 20 overs at batters who usually won’t score as many runs against you b) you’re more likely to take ten wickets (get ten of the batters out) before the end of your 20 overs, which is great for a bowling team because it can really limit the batting team’s score total. For example today Afghanistan played NZ, afghans batted first and scored 159/6, then came in and bowled New Zealand all out for 75 in less than 20 overs. Game over, Afghans win and it’s not even close, they get to go home early because they got the job done in their bowling/fielding.
@shashankbajpai72445 ай бұрын
7:22 “it’s gonna be tight!” Boy was it tight! Also, just a little cheat sheet - A) 1 over = 6 balls. If you see 1.4 overs on your screen it means that the first over has been completed, the second over is currently in progress and 4 deliveries (also referred to as balls) have been bowled (therefore, 2 more balls remaining in that over). B) Generally, a good score depends on the conditions of the pitch and the weather conditions too. If it favours the bowlers, a score of 120+ is good enough to defend. If it favours the bowlers, then even 220 might not be enough. C) Every team has 11 players on their side. No substitutions allowed in international cricket (except for a fielder but that sub cannot bat/bowl). Generally, the first 5-7 players are good batsmen. The remaining players are called the tailenders (these are good bowlers). Some players are decent at both batting and bowling and are called all rounders. D) The 5th wicket was called LBW or leg before wicket. You can check any KZbin video on that but it was introduced to remove passive batting practices. Batsmen would not play a shot rather block the ball with their legs to tire out the bowlers. E) Wide (when a ball is bowled beyond the reasonable reach of a batter), No ball (when a bowler oversteps the mark when delivering a ball or the ball reaches the batsman above waist-height without pitching), leg byes (when a ball hits the leg of the batsman and they get runs, the runs are given to the team but the batsman’s score remains the same), byes (same as leg byes, except here the ball touches some other part or no part of the batter) are all considered ‘extras’ F) A no ball is followed by a ‘Free hit’. A batsman cannot get out on a free hit except for a run out. Also, even when a ball is a no ball a batsman will not be given out except for a run out. Hope this help! Let me know in case of any questions

Yes, any quick wicket or two is always a good thing. The 5th wicket when you asked what happened, it was out by lbw. Leg before wicket. The number of wickets matters because 1 to 6 or 7 are your best batsmen. Then you get into the all-rounders, the keeper, and the rest are the bowlers, who typically aren't very good at batting.

8:12 wickets matter every team have 10 wickets Pakistan loss 7 wickets /out of 10 USA loss 3 wickets/ out of 10 Love from India 🇮🇳
@SantoshkumarPandeySKCP5 ай бұрын
Hey Luke , here's why wickets matter: 1. While the focus is on the balls and runs. A team can at most lose 10 wickets. If Pakistan had lost 10 wickets, they cannot continue even if there are balls/overs left to play. 2. A team composition is usually 5-6 batsmen, 4-5 bowlers. Batsmen are specialized to hit, whereas bowlers not so much. Thus if a team is say 7 wickets down, it is running out of batsmen who can survive the enemy bowling attack and still score at a fast enough pace. The rest of the wickets are just guys whose specialty is bowling, when batting these guys can at most get a few lucky hits. Hence, taking wickets is important as it puts the batting team under pressure and can affect the ability of the batting team to score runs. In this case, if Pakistan had more wickets left, they probably would be more aggressive and could score more runs than the 159 that they managed.

Opponent catches the ball after the batsman hit it, ball hits the 3 sticks(Stumps) behind the batsman, or the ball hits the batsman's leg if it is right infront of the stumps results in a wicket loss. Total 10 wickets, 20overs each over has 6 balls. The match goes on until all 10 wickets down or all 120 balls are delivered. Then the other team comes out to bat and has the same rules.
@harshap7125 ай бұрын
Score is the most important thing here. Thing with wickets is specialist batters will be batting upfront and when you loose those specialist batters and less talented batters come to bat it’s difficult to score..so when wickets fall scoring rate and ultimately the final score could be less. Also each team has only 10 wickets..if you loose all 10 before the 20 over mark they won’t be able to bat anymore and that score would be there final score..so wickets also matter but the most important thing is to get maximum runs..

1 over= 6balls ( 20 overs=120 balls) Each team has 11 players to play 20 or 50 overs. When they bowl have to take 10 wickets(10 players out of 11) to complete the innings. There are many options to get out the batter while bowling like: 1) caught out 2) run out (batters while running between the wickets) 3) LBW ( LEG BEFORE WICKET) you can watch videos about that to know more...

As a Sri Lankan (and that matters, because our team is going through a decade of misery rn despite us being one of the full members, top 10 teams in the world), I'm very aware of how Pakistan feels after this because a full member nation getting defeated by an associate team like the US should be damn near impossible. But, seeing this spur interest in cricket in at least a few people, knowing how this all helps the sport spread (good to see Uganda and Nepal in this year's T20 WC!), it brings a damn tear to my eye. Here's hoping the US goes the way Afghanistan and Ireland have gone (most recent associate teams to be made full members)!

Cricket 101 1. Coin toss between two captains. Who own the toss can choose to bowl or bet first. 2. Every team has 11 players and t20 has total of 20 overs for a inning. 2. One team will bowl and other team will bat. 2.1 the first inning will be over when the 20 over is dealt or batting team loses all of their wickets (10)*, whichever comes first. * There is always 2 batsman on the crease 3.after the first inning ends the roles will be reversed. Winning criteria: for instance if the first team to bat score 123 runs, the other team has make 124 to win. Runs: 1. For everytime two batsman exchange their position on the crease 1 run will be added. 6. If the ball reaches the boundary without dropping on the ground, it's a 6 4. If the ball drops on the field and then reaches boundary that's 4. ( Regardless of batsman hitting the ball or not) Out: i. If the ball breaks the stamps ( 2 horizontal wood placed on three wooden wickets) it's a clean bolt. ii. If any fielder catches the ball before it falls on the ground. It's a catch. iii. If wicker keeper( the guy behind the wickets) catches the ball after direct contact from bat it's called caught. Iv. While running between wickets for 1 run if any fielder hit the wickets with bowl, that's runout. V. If the batsman guard the bowl with his/her leg which could have hit the wicket eventually, it's a LBW ( leg before wicket)

Yes, the 5th Pakistani wicket was given out for something call Leg Before Wicket or LBW. In cricket, nothing but a Bat can come between the ball and the wicket-stumps. So if the Umpire thinks the ball was going to hit the wicket and you blocked it with any part other than Bat, then you can be given out. Only exception can be the gloves, as gloves are considered part of the bat if they are clearly gripping the handle of the Bat. Therefore, if ball hits your glove on the way to the wicket-stumps, it is considered safe but at the same time if that ball goes up in the air and someone catches it, you are caught out. Though this would only apply if your hands were gripping the handle of the bat, if you hands came off from the handle and ball hits your gloves then you can be given LBW out but if someone catch the ball then you are safe.

Batting team has 10 wickets and 20 overs to score runs, whichever finishes first ends the innings. LBW (leg before wicket) - Batter is given out if the ball is heading towards stumps and batter blocks it with his body (not bat) Super over is like penalty shoot out in cricket when the match is tied.

8:02 - Wickets are important across all formats of cricket. You have 10 of them. Number of wickets signifies how many batsmen you have lost. if you lose all 10 of them, your innings is over. Doesnt matter if number of overs alloted are finished or not.
