I worked with a great woman who worked incredibly hard but was always in a rush! I asked her one day why she had no time to stop to have a chat, she said "my husband was severely affected by the chemicals in Vietnam and as a result my children are both disabled! I am all they have, so I must keep working and make sure they are ok"! 😪

John Schumann was awarded a gold record for this song - many many years ago - after which he donated the royalties to the welfare of soldiers (& ex-soldiers) Since then they have maintained close links - see also - open arms Australia & Solder on..

My Dad was a Vietnam vet, the Caungra training base has a living memorial "the Grove" his name & flag now sits on a tree in his honor. He was part of the 1000 strong AATTV (Aus army training team) who tactically trained the Vietnam soldiers. The were the 1st in & last out 🇦🇺

Mate you cant be expected to know every single little detail about something that not even Aussies know about. The whole point of things like this song and your reaction ,is self discovery . Haters are going to hate but the rest of us know their opinions dont matter. Thanks for a very respectable and heart felt reaction. The footy match is one for the ages and will be replayed a lot , especially Elliots mark. You have to check it out.

Freedom aint free. As an Australian, massive respect for the review. The sentiment is largely of our involvement with the Vietnam war but works for other countries and wars as a whole. Australia has been with Uncle Sam since WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and several others. An anti war song, but never anti veteran. Side note - huge Fremantle Dockers supporter, thanks, from Perth, Western Australia.

Mate Aussies don't even know everything and nice people will help you understand. The memorial cross in the video is the famous Aussie battle of Long Tan, 6 RAR 108 Australian's and 3 NZ forward artillery observers who call the danger close artillery of NZ,AUS and USA on to their own positions with pin point accuracy defeat 2500 VC, Australia only suffered 18 deaths and to this day Vietnam will not admit to totals of their side. That memorial is the only foreign one allowed in Vietnam out of respect for Aussies who they respected very highly. the original cross in the video placed was held in a Vietnamese museum and then handed over to the Australian government as respect and placed a copy on the battle grounds. Australian SASR were said to be most feared of all and named Ma Rung in Vietnamese means Phantoms of the Jungles. SASR taught navy seals and famous MACV SOG and were members of it also. SASR killed over 600 HVT VC ad carried out over 1200 missions.and only 1 died in action, 1 died of wounds after and 3 died of training accidents Frankie was his brother's friend and his brother was not far from him when he stepped on the mine. the landing on the moon reference is because the evac helicopters that came to rescue Frankie took their time and was because were sitting back at the base watching the landing on the moon on tv. Danger close is a movie loosely based on the Battle of Long Tan and is a good movie too.. has Travis Fimmel Ragnar from Vikings in it also.

Have you listened to Eric Bogle sing his rendition of our favorite ode to our forefathers who fought during WW1 at Galipoli. He is an immigrant from Scotland who wrote this after seeing the ANZAC march in 1971. He embodies the respect of our young Australians to the sacrifices made by our service personnel in conflicts past and present for the future of our way of life. Lest we forget

The song is subtitled "a walk in the light green". John Schumann describes it "It's a song about two mates of mine who went to Vietnam, came back Agent Orange victims. The title "A Walk in the Light Green" stems from the fact that when the Australian soldiers in Vietnam were given their missions, they looked at the areas where they'd be working in on the map and if it was dark green on the map, then there was cause for some consolation, because dark green meant thick jungle, lots of cover, and there were no mines. If they were working in areas that were light green on the map, that meant light jungle, not much cover, and heaps of mines. This is a song for Mick and Frankie. It's called "A walk in the light green".

There's a song called Khe Sanh (by cold chisel) that was also about an Australian veteran (if you haven't reacted to it then you might be interested). You might want to have the lyrics with you as most people them wrong for "Khe Sanh" (including me). "Why the Channel 7 chopper chills me to my feet" Redgum
