Hi Cole - I lost my job this week. I’m feeling anxious and sad about the future. Your videos are always so comforting to me, I watch them every Sunday morning. This catalog is from my era of AG, so it’s especially nostalgic for me. Thanks for your consistent uploading and always fun commentary, I really appreciate it.

I grew up near the mall where the American Girl Bistro was in Atlanta (my friend in high school even worked in the bistro) and last time I was at the mall I noticed it had closed! I know they did well for a long time though, offering birthday parties and functioning as both a small café for kids and a regular American Girl store as well.

Thank you for the details on a real world encounter!

The Atlanta store is closed, and the Dallas one just got replaced with a new and BEAUTIFUL store/bistro combo. You should look it up; it’s stunning and nothing like the other stores. They currently have stores in LA, Dallas, Chicago, New York, Orlando, Charlotte, DC, and Nashville, where I live!

I looked up the Dallas one - it looks HUGE and fabulous. The AG Place in Chicago (where I live) is kind of worse for wear, it's outdoor signage is very faded and the store is embedded within the Watertower Place mall which is not the cutest building. Dallas benefits from being a stand alone store built for that purpose.

@@ColeChickering I went to the AG Chicago store during a family vacation in 2006, and little 9-year-old me was THRIVING!! Core memory for sure! It helped that the GOTY was Jess, and my name is Jessica! 🤯 I'm sad to hear it's not looking so hot these days, but you're def right about that. I didn't realize it was inside of a mall. Maybe they'll remodel it now that they have the Dallas store open. 🤷🏼♀️

Most of the historical girls' books contain a character who could have potentially become a Best Friend Doll, but a few of them would have been tricky to pull off. Addy had a supportive best friend named Sarah, but a crucial part of Sarah's story is that she has to quit school to help her family earn money by doing laundry, and is so poor that her shoes literally begin to fall off her feet. If they had chosen a secondary character from Addy's story to make into a Best Friend doll, they probably would have chosen Harriet, an affluent classmate who starts out as a snob, but later becomes more friendly. Harriet has beautiful clothes in the illustrations; I've seen American Girl collectors who have customized dolls and outfits to make their own Harriet! A best friend for Kirsten would have been tricky as well. I think the best candidate would have been Singing Bird, a Native American girl Kirsten befriends in Kirsten Learns a Lesson, but Singing Bird's family moves away, and she disappears for the remainder of the main series books. Josefina has a best friend named Marianna, a Native American girl who lives in a pueblo, but again, Marianna is only in one or two of the main series books. I think it's also possible that the company couldn't get permission from the respective tribes of these characters to represent them in doll form.

I have so much from this catalog, as 2007 was peak childhood AG era for me! The hair salon DVD is everything you think it should be, and I can attest that my Nicki’s curls didn’t make it to adulthood. She has since been to the AG hair salon, but some things will never be the same! Lol. The Samantha movie is my favorite AG movie! And I remember choosing between Emily and Nellie when I was a kid, and I chose Emily because I liked that she was British! Haha, probably for the best since I know a lot of Nellies are now orange! 😂🙈

Also, Kit’s birthday outfit is my all-time favorite AG outfit, so you have great taste!! And if you think Nicki’s horse isn’t believable, you should look up the GOTY 2024 Lila’s horse, Hollyhock. 😂😂😂

@@ColeChickering LOL, isn't that horse an atrocity?! But it sold out almost immediately & was just recently restocked, so I guess they're onto something!! 🌈🐴

@@ColeChickering If you have a Half Price Books or an equivalent used book store that sells DVDs, you should be able to at least find the Samantha movie! I think I got rid of my hair salon DVD, so I'll be keeping an eye out for it on my hunts! Lol. I've been collecting all the AG books over the past 2 years and have over 100 of them. There are SO many!! I have officially seen every movie now, but reading all the books is going to take a lifetime! Haha.
