I clicked this thinking it was gonna be a beginners guide for new doll collectors- then you started painting, eye swapping and dying dolls! And I'm surprised you have never boiled doll limbs, you've done about everything else! I also didn't know some of the lingo, but that's probably because I'm rarely on buy/sell communities. Thank You 😊 I follow several groups on Facebook, and I feel like this stuff is what I see a lot of people have questions about. So I thought wouldn’t it be cool to have it all in one video. So it basically includes everything I have learned until this point lol 😂 I have thought about doing a guide for new collectors but as much as the market fluctuates, I’m not sure how accurate it would be, dolls aren’t selling great right now but I expect that to change closer to spring time. Time will tell 🤔

hello. For the string do you use 3/16 inch one or 5/32 inch thick one? because you said 4 mm thick in the video and 5/32 is 4 mm but the one in the link is 3/16 inch thick which is actually 4.76 mm. if you can respond I would be appreciated thank you

As someone starting to get into customization, what are some supplies I would need?

If you are wanting to do face ups I recommend getting some watercolor pencils (brown, black and pink),acrylic paint (for lip color), fine tip brushes, Mr. super clear matte finish. You will need some nail polish remover to remove factory colors. Rubbing alcohol is helpful to fix any mistakes made with water color pencil.

Can you use a hot water dunk with Mary Ellens curlers?

Probably , but they weren’t made for that purpose, so I probably wouldn’t, to be on the safe side.

I’ve had curlers melt before in hot water dunks, you definitely want to be careful 😳

Just a fun note: Just Like You AND Truly Me are BOTH rebrands in the numbered doll line. When they originally debuted in 1995, they were first called American Girl of Today. They then dropped the word "of", now making it American Girl Today. This line has had the most rebranded name changes over the years. They've also been known as InnerStarU and My American Girl.

What would you do if you scratch the face while doing that swap ? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I usually use micro mesh to sand it down. If it’s still visible I will try to cover with lashes. If the eye feels like it has any rough spots before I put it in, I will try to smooth them down or use a small amount of baby oil to help the eye slide in. Making it less likely to scratch the mold.
