American's are dying by overdose in record numbers, victims of the worst opioid addiction epidemic in history. In Mobile, Alabama two doctors are serving up heavy doses of the dangerous drugs. One drug the doctors prescribe is 50 times more potent than heroin and the multi-billion dollar drug company that makes it is paying them to push it. While both the drug maker and these doctors are unrelenting in turning patients' pain into enormous profits, some families of those who die hold the doctors responsible. Meanwhile people with actual pain are treated like criminals for wanting a mild pain killer as needed. It's truly screwed up system.

My wife and I, in our 50's, are patients with actual pain and neither of us want to become dependent or addicted to any drug. However neither of us enjoy being in pain. We have been made to feel like drug fiends at times and that is wrong. We are fortunate that our primary care doctor is compassionate as well as cautious.

I love American Greed! This is a very touching story. It sickens me to see those who took the Hippocratic Oath profit off the misery of others; I also feel the same way about those who prey upon elderly people and get swindled out of their retirement money/life savings. Greed!

@@ticks4ticks4 Neurontin Gabapentin works great for nerve pain, but does very little for certain types of pain. Many people cannot function on benzodiazepines. Plus they are not are elective painkiller anyway other than putting you to sleep. NSA IDs are not effective against the degree of pain for which opioids should be prescribed. Neither are tens units

Sad to say as a retired cardiac nurse, I had to basically BEG the cardiac surgeons to prescribed pain meds for patients. MANY of them could not sleep because of the pain. When they would send in a prescription is was always no more than 8-10 tablets of norco 5mg. Tablets. ( I guess this was better than nothing at all). Cardiac surgeons seem to forget that the awful pain that patients experience in the hospital is still the same pain when they are discharged home.

There are people whose pain tolerance is alot higher than others. While they can take ibuprofen and not need anything stronger, they are the fortunate ones! My daughter is one of the fortunate one's. Be more compassionate to those that are in need of help from pain management. There are doctor's that are VERY quick to sense who is legitimate and who is not!

The Supreme Court has ruled that the DEA must use a higher standard of evidence (beyond a reasonable doubt) before they can prosecute doctors. Upper Middle Class white people need to take personal responsibility for their choices.

Years ago, a bad dr forced an invasive procedure on me and left me permanently in horrendous pain. I didn't know he wasn't board certified. I was eventually sent to a pain Dr. after several drs didn't know what to do with me. They prescribed me pain medication that I didn't realize is dangerous. They increased the dosage. I used it the right way for a few years but it didn't help me. I just stopped taking it cold turkey one day although I probably should have tapered down. I didn't find out it was a dangerous medication until 2016. I stopped taking it around 2012. I feel bad for the people that died and the people that became addicted.

Wink at the Wise! Just because a doctor prescribe you a med it do not force you to use! I was prescribed Percocet a while back for my lower lumbar disc that has collapsed! Well the need was great, cause I had no control of my right leg, at all, the pain was consistent! And the doctor had to get that med approved to give to me because it is a Narcardic! Ouch! So my kids were small and in school then! That med not only would have gotten me addicted in a quickness, but I would not be able to care for my children! So even tho my insurance covered it, I had to weigh the need of my children against my back pain, and so the Narc lost! I never took it! Did not refill it, and am sober and clear of drug use! Children of God, Wisdom winks when we think! FYI true testimony! Copyrights by TELawrence (all rights reserved)! When life gets hard, try God!
