American Hat co. Vs rodeo king felt Hat’s

I am making a comparison between rodeo king And American hat company Felt hats and letting you know why I would choose American hat co.
I will talk about values construction customer service and the company’s pride in there product that shows through the quality along with fit and what the companies stand for and show why I relate closer to American hat company.
The rodeo king is a 10x ash belly and the American is a 40x steel so the felt will not be compared between these two hats but I will be discussing how they compare in felt to there respectable x rating that I have seen before.

Just bought my American Hat Co. 100x and I have to say this is the best fitting, highest quality hat I’ve ever owned. I have a rodeo king 10x that’s a great hat but even after comparing a 200x rodeo king to my 100x American Hat it’s not even a question, the American is the way to go for sure. I wanted a hat that will last a lifetime of abuse and I really think this is it! The quality, the craftsmanship, the care and detail that went into it is on another level entirely. I have had stetson, resistol , rodeo king… Now i have 3 AHC in my arsenal… HANDS DOWN. AHC is gorgeous no matter if it’s 7x or 10x or up. They all have same high quality and the attention to detail is up there. I have 100x and two 40x in my arsenal

I paid around $600 for my 40x pecan american hat company hat and its worth every penny to me. It will last my lifetime and hopefully it'll fit one of my sons one day when I'm gone. It's my go to felt hat this time of year.

Great video! Its definitely worth spending a little more upfront, it'll be worth it in the long run. Stetson/Resistol also does the same renovation program as American hat but I do gotta say I like the sweatbands on the American hats better than on most Stetsons. Cant wait to eventually get an American Hat of my own. Thanks for your review!

I like the looks of all 3 hats & that being said, looks are only skin deep. I can see the quality and construction attention to detail, and pride in the American Hat Co. over the Rodeo King & many other brands. If I'm not mistaken, which I doubt I am, I see 2 AHC hats, the steel 40x and your fine looking Straw you're wearing, and they look handsome indeed. Thanks 4 the review Lionel, I enjoyed it. 👍

Great video brother. Would love to see how the American Hat measures up to say the other players within there respective X range. You should get your hands on a Resistol, Stetson, Milano (Larry Mahan), Bailey, Seratelli, etc. I have yet to see any videos on all the players and have them ranked. Would be intresting to see. Also, Greeley Hat Works is awesome from what I hear. Good custom quality and made President Bush a few hats and did all the hats for Yellowstone.

I looked at a Rodeo King 100x today and it felt really smooth. Upon closer examination of the hat, I noticed the stitching that connects the crown to the brim was showing. The hat band was not covering it up correctly. The hatter said he could fix that for me but at $830 before tax I decided to pass. I’m going to look at American Hat Company to take a look at their 100x. I appreciate your posting.

And I do agree with you at $830 non of these flaws should be on a hat and that’s just the thing the material could be great and will definitely be smooth but if the finish is bad then the hat is not worth it especially when you can get an American 100x that is a superior brand finished out way better for $795 it is a not even a comparison the American will be smoother and made better and made with more pride and great customer service in Texas. In fact, the 200x is a little over $200 more than the 100x and I might go that route. Thanks for posting your video. I picked up a rodeo king 10x in ash color as a work hat since I’ve had my resistol for over a decade. I wear felt even in the Oklahoma summer and wrangling horses everyday it’s worth more to me to have one. That being said, I do wish I had gotten the American, the rodeo king has taken forever to break in even with the heavy sweating and dirt and sand. I could see one being a nice dancing hat, but all my friends who wear the Americans, love them. It’s a shame resistol isn’t as nice as they used to be for good work hats

I agree with you 100% I actually like my rodeo king but once you get American it’s really hard to pick up any other hats. I just did a factory tour video of the American hat company.

The Price and RK lower Crown is what hooks Buyers. Get the AHC then have a Hatmaker put Eyelets in it for better breathing. I really like the high Crowns too I guess they stay cooler?

When you get to a $350 price tag it’s time to put custom hats in the mix. I have a 60%beaver hat custom made for me. Fits perfectly, color, crown, and brim what I wanted for about the same price as the hats you are discussing. But it is interesting what the different hat makers hats feel like even though they are all6X. Yesterday I was at Boot Barn checking out a hat and it felt like wool! It was a 6X, the finish on it wasn’t that great either. Good review! Get the hat that you like and makes you happy!

Yes the new 6 x hardly have any beaver hair in it. American has the softest 7x on the market and they are tough making them the way 7x use to be made like that’s why they are definitely worth the price now I’m sure custom feels great but to me American hats just feels perfect so thats the hat that definitely makes me happy to own. 40X in AHC isn't the same as a 40X in Rodeo King. I know that's not what you have here. But, you start off saying you won't compare the two on felt quality. I have a Rodeo King 7X and it is much nicer and more firm than the AHC 10X. I also have a AHC 200X, which is awesome. But, expensive. I'm looking for something in the mid $400-$500 or so. Looking at AHC 10X vs a RK 30X. Know the "X" system is not standardized. Any idea on the amount of beaver in each of these? Great video by the way.

I would say go with AHC 40x it is such an amazing hat and has actually 50%beaver I honestly couldn’t see myself wearing anything else of course I have a 200x silverbelly on the way from AHC but the 40x is an amazing happy medium that delivers on every aspect at the price point. Thank you. There is no particular code number it’s just from American hat company the color is steel and this particular one is in 40x they are available from 7x all the way up to 1000x. I would call the Best hat store in Fort Worth TX and they will get you this hat

Is there a difference in size between American felt and an American straw hat ?

It depends on the one you order. A lot of the hats are made in different sizes ranging from 4 inch 4 1/4 inch 4 1/2 and 5 inch so it really depends on what you want and felt you can always have an eighth of an inch cut at a time.

A few issues here. Just my thoughts since you are creating content that could impact consumer behavior. 1.) Whether or not the buckles on these hats are not intended for anyone to keep is a matter of opinion. I would ask anyone if they use the pseudo band that comes with a hat. Few people seem to, so why does it matter? I think they should just leave the bands off entirely. The workmanship of the stitching is what matters for longevity. Might have been more useful to remove the bands and review the stitch work. 2.) The sweat band in this Rodeo King hat, and every RK hat I have seen, appears to be exactly as it should be. So to say "I have heard they are bad sometimes.." is repeating hearsay and kind of comes across as misleading. Unless you have proof that American has never messed up a hat, and RK has, why bring it up? 3.) The fact that American will "Restore" your hat for $100 to $150 means nothing without context. Resistol will "Restore" a felt hat for $27. When they say it, it means a new sweatband, liner and a cleaning. So what does American mean by restore. There are numerous companies that will do a full deconstruction of a hat down to the separated materials, then reconstruct and block, even with size adjustments, for $125. You end up with a brand new hat made from the old materials. Catalina Hatters is just one such quality vendor. 4.) If the customer service is poor for RK, that may be a valid concern. I have both hat brands but have never had to contact either company. Again, this is just my opinion, so I know it and a dollar wont buy you a bottle of water. But it really seems like this is more of a commercial for American than a fair comparison of two hats. The hats are not even in the same tier (40x vs 10x).

I am not sure if you have seen the complete video but I did say that I am not comparing the felt factor on these 2 hat’s because I one was a 40x and the other was a 10x but I did mention the 10x American I saw in the store that felt much smoother and higher quality then my 10x rodeos king so I was fair about that. My battle was American vs rodeo king so me talking about what Resistol or any of the custom hatter’s do have no relation to this video so back to the subject matter of rodeo king vs American no matter if you do need to talk to the company i rather deal with the one that has a phone number and a customer service and a presence that shows pride with that being said at American actually a factory restoration program something and again rodeo king unfortunately have no number to contact on the matter. What I’ve heard from the rodeo king liner was from guys that shapes American and rodeo king’s all day every day and have seen these flaw’s also running the rodeo king enthusiast and American enthusiast page on Facebook I have seen some of those liner issues from new hats and not on the American page so that reference I made was not from my no wear but from several people I know and that’s just finish quality control and finally I myself and most other people that I know love the original band I actually replaced the band on one hat and went back to the original so the band is included in both hats for that reason and the rodeo king again is not finished out as well as the American again showing a deficit in the RK quality control. Now i don’t get paid by American and I paid for all the hat’s that I own with that being said I still think RK makes a decent hat especially for the lower price that they charge and thankfully my personal liner on my RK had no issues and I like the hat but and to me customer service is important and for all the reason that I stated I rather pay a bit more for the American and that is my personal preference. If customer service or band is not as important and you feel like the rodeo king is as good as the American then you are getting a better deal with the rodeo king especially if the liner came out straight but I stick by everything that I say and I’m not expecting everyone to agree with me some folks will see this video and say I rather pay extra for the American for what I say and some will have your thought process and will say to me those things that he said about American is not worth the extra money so I rather by a rodeo king that is a good hat for a little less and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that but that is my opinion and I hope it helps people who are in between figure out the hat they want.
