Well shit, this completely changes some of the movie for me. When the cops tell Derek how those two "got jumped last night", I always thought they were unknowingly referencing Derek having beaten them up at the party - which was a little confusing since Derek only hit him one time. So I took that to mean that they had spread the news worse than it was so people would turn on Derek. But it turns out that they actually DO get jumped. Interesting...

Yeah they never really explained who jumped Cam and Seth, so it seemed like it was pointless. Cameron also alluded to the raft that Seth was concerned about Derek's mental state, but we never see Seth and Derek talking about the gang, how things are going, and we also never see Seth and Cam talking about Derek. They messed up bad by leaving this out. I think this also allows us to understand better the mentality that leads up to the violence, rather than just hearing some speeches. We needed to feel what it was like to be inside of the gang.

Seth was so hurt and confused. Derek was probably his only real friend and this scene shows that he really didn't want to hurt him. As horrible as he is, deep down Seth was a victim you can tell he doesn't hold these values more than skin deep. He just wanted a place where he could feel respected, accepted and/or feared for the only time in his life. Just someone with a lot of insecurities on the wrong side of a lot of predatory indoctrination. Notice how throughout the film he doesn't have the cognitive ability to express any of his own independant opinions.

@@joewhitehead3 ah but that involves smashing the magic "he's a racist" button and not thinking about things with a bit of nuance. Seth might have still been a victim, EVEN IF HE WAS RACIST. He was a victim because he was a younger, dumber person compared to this manipulative predator Cam, who who spread his ideology to others. To say Seth deserves zero sympathy is to say no one ever influenced or tricked by a charismatic leader or ideology deserves sympathy. People have killed and maimed countless times throughout history because someone interesting told them too, we just tend to only remember the example of the Nazis.

I remember when I was 22 yrs old, a friend invited me to a party in chapel hill NC. It was the first time I’ve been to a college party, first time around college folks having fun, drinking and smoking, and meeting new people. My friend introduced me to a dude who was like in his mid 40s. He wasn’t showing gray hairs and looked vibrant, but you could tell he was a lot older. Folks overlooked it because he sold weed and had a hookup with getting kegs, which is what people told me, but he was always at every party and he was living the life being known around that college town. Fast forward to my late 30s and I looked back at that guy and couldn’t help think that was some incredibly loser sht. Sure, kids in college are technically adults but if you’re 40+ hanging out with 20 yr olds, you’re essentially telling stories, bragging and getting validation from kids. That’s some borderline predatory/arrested development/insecure type of sht.

@@ramonalejandrosuare Yea, but they didnt have any grudge against them, except Danny steping up for the kid in the bathroom that was beaten up by some black boys. He confronted them and that maybe pissed off the kid that killed him and was telling the dudes on the basketball court about them. Those guys that beaten Cameroon and Seth didnt know who they were, they just beated them out of their own whim. What im saying is that it dosent change the motive of the kid that killed Danny in the end it was pretty much the same as we saw in the movie, but it does make a question what happend to Cam and Seth. Beside the black dudes beating 2 white guys i think the reasoning for lefting it off is Cameroons way of thinking that he put up in this scene. He is saying that people are only doing this today because its "politcly correct" and want to be on the "right side" by his way of thinking. He is right about society telling people today how they should act and what they should do, this kind of thinking is what society wants to surpress today. Ofcourse Cameroon is wrong in this case, but as an way of thinking generally he isnt...

Cameron wants Seth to play that role. He wants him to be the next Derek Vineyard. It really shows how callous and selfish Cameron is. Sure, he may appear fatherly to Seth, but it's a front. I can see why this scene was cut to make the movie tighter. Undermines the antagonists a bit by showing regular people standing up to them and giving them dirty looks. One thing I did think was interesting though was it explains why Derick never got attacked if these guys got clobbered or worse, and it also set the example for the young guy in the car to go after Derick's brother next

I'm confused as to why this scene was deleted. This shows a lot important stuff. Plus I dont think Cameron had enough screen time in the movie to explain what he was all about. Plus it shows how the get jumped, also important.

I guess they left this scene out because, all the actual racism aside, Cameron started making a lot of sense when he criticized the political correct bs. Suddenly would've make you sympathize with this pos and we cant have that, can we?

Well technically the nazis invented political correctness. And really you can't put the racism aside because everything out of this character's mouth is some bs excuse for his hatred.

It Doesn't advance the plot is the issue. From a story perspective we know Cam is a manipulative piece of shit and we know Seth is an ignorant dumb fuck. The scene although interesting doesn't give us any new information and it doesn't push the plot forward. If the film as a whole were shorter you could consider finding a spot for it but considering the movie is already 3 hours I think it was a good omission even though it's interesting to watch.

@@CornholioDK that is fair. It's definitely interesting and I'd have been ok having it in but I don't hate the decision to leave it out given the length of the movie but also because it kind of fucks with Cams character, he's always been a quiet manipulator you never get the vibe he's the type to loudly object the way he does in this scene which makes it kinda odd. All that said I'll take any new content in a movie like American History X for sure
