For me, it shows that Derek wasn't truly racist. He was only trying to convince himself that he hated blacks and latinos, because he was angry. Racist feelings don't go away that easily when they’re truly felt, not even after a traumatic experience like the one Derek had in prison.

The first scene was too sad and brutal. The second scene was bad for two reasons: (1) it’s inconsistent with the thing Cameron said to Derek, about the need of growing out of the juvenile phase of attacking random people on the street, and (2) it adds some unnecessary comic relief in the form of Seth’s line about making a “musical comedy” and the silly look Cameron gave to him afterwards. I mean, it's funny, but feels out of place with the general tone of the movie. The third scene was ok, but a bit cheesy. I guess that's why they left them out.

Second scene at the diner was hilarious. We don't want her back. She will pay the toll sooner or later. TNB at the end of it outside when walking to their car smh.
