The writing in the first deleted scene was excellent. Cam and Seth were oblivious to the fact the homeless vet and the guy running the burger place were shocked and disgusted by their behavior.

Apparently that first scene they only shot it once because the actors involved felt like shit after they shot it and they both gave the black lady a huge hug after and told her they despised doing the scene, and so it was taken out due to their feelings of remorse for shooting it in the first place!!!!.....

One of the best films I’ve ever seen, none of these scenes should’ve been deleted especially not the one in the diner with the little kid which was really innocent & beautiful, shows just how much Derek had changed for the better & that all his hate was gone.
@nonh1
@nonh1 2 ай бұрын
For me, it shows that Derek wasn't truly racist. He was only trying to convince himself that he hated blacks and latinos, because he was angry. Racist feelings don't go away that easily when they’re truly felt, not even after a traumatic experience like the one Derek had in prison.

I doubt it. For a big movie like this, you have to sign a bunch of contracts and more legal things. She also had lines to remember, she wasn’t just reacting to things around her. They’d want an actor for that. Plus, Edward Norton is extremely, extremely serious about acting to the point that he’s labeled as “hard to work with.” So I feel like he would insist on having actual actors.

The first scene was too sad and brutal. The second scene was bad for two reasons: (1) it’s inconsistent with the thing Cameron said to Derek, about the need of growing out of the juvenile phase of attacking random people on the street, and (2) it adds some unnecessary comic relief in the form of Seth’s line about making a “musical comedy” and the silly look Cameron gave to him afterwards. I mean, it's funny, but feels out of place with the general tone of the movie. The third scene was ok, but a bit cheesy. I guess that's why they left them out.

First scene reminded me more of a documentary style filmmaking. Like the movie “Kids”. It was definitely a bit too much. Second scene was awesome tho it made it seem like a sequel was coming or something. Which it could’ve been cool to see him take down the Kkk having to kill his old friends lol

I always thought the script/story for this movie didn't make sense, then I heard a few things about it. Ed Furlong wanted too many adjustments, and he got them. He altered it completely from the original, where the protagonist came from a really bad upbringing, in Philadelphia, not LA.

1) correctly cut, way too on the nose. 2) couple of good exchanges, especially Cam using flattery to manipulate Seth. Ultimately it’s too long and the confrontation doesn’t really make sense as, the Cam in the final cut was written as a coward who got others to do all his dirty work - him starting a public argument flies in the face of that narrative. 3) sweet scene but not needed, we already know Derek is a changed man.

Damn that first scene hit me as a teen watching it and even more so now as an adult, the pain in that ladies eyes man ....even if it was just acting, i lived in long beach ca my whole life and seen this growing up , my friends and i skated down by the pike , near where they filmed this. When i would see this racist sht , id get involved. We were mostly mexican and few black homies. We weren't raised like that and it was different then, ppl stood up for this...seems like nowadays when this happens ppl look the other way. Damn shame
