I went to New Orleans for the first time recently and learned about the real Marie Laveau. She was an incredible figure. She was very plugged into the community and respected. Black people who'd been falsely accused of crimes or were victims of crimes that weren't taken seriously would come to her for readings and tell their story. Laveau, who had ins with the police, would give them tips she'd "divined" and lead them to the actual perpetrators. She was basically an everyday hero, using her charms and intelligence to get justice in an unjust, racist system. Fun fact, she has one of the most visited grave sites in America. My tour guide said number one but I tried to fact check and saw second-most. Either way, impressive. I think this is a fun interpretation of her- while not accurate, they portray her as a figure of supreme confidence, power, and intelligence. Not to mention her ferocity and obstinance in the face of racist systems, even within the witching community. She just radiates spiritual fortitude (despite not having a soul lol). However, it does get dark and she does some pretty heinous things in the show so I honestly wonder how the real Marie Laveau would have felt about her character.

the commenter was actually right, in the first few episodes we were shown that marie had murdered delphine’s whole family and hung them on her house. the end where we see borquita is them all in hell being punished by papa legba

I get what you’re saying but I don’t agree with you. Just because Marie’s hell was being in Delphine’s attic to torcher Borquita, et al, doesn’t guarantee in what time frame Marie was sent there. In hell, time is nebulous so they say. Marie was sent there after Borquita’s leg was broken but before she died. So Marie’s hell is spending eternity in the attic torchering Delphine’s girls, while Delphine’s hell was to be locked in the attic watching Marie torchering her children. So that means that Marie never had the chance to hang Delphine’s family because she was sent to hell at a different point in time.

In Luke's death scene when you said "Oh my God she just doubled down on being the worst person ever" it killed me 😂 I love watching your shit Matty I can't wait for Freak Show!!! I'd wanna see season 6: Roanoke made into an extended series! Also, you may've forgotten but Marie Laveau killed Delphine's daughters and husband in I think the second episode. Remember in the flashback where it's showing how Delphine gained immortality, it showed her family dead and hanging and then Laveau and the town entombed Delphine. Laveau said something like "And don't think they didn't suffer because they did - greatly"

People always related her to Witchcraft in the 70’s/80’s so she stop using black clothes and her fashion style because of that. People called her “The White Witch” and I think she was the best option to bring on the show, her music sounds so Magical/Mystical/Fairy.

Emma Roberts always played nice girls until Scream 4 came along. I was first introduced to her in her Nickelodeon sitcom Unfabulous (2004-2007). It aired in reruns for a few years after it ended. Maybe you vaguely remember it?

Stevie Nicks appearing as a white witch is a call back to the rumors that she's a witch. Those rumors have been around for decades. I think part of it is the words to some of her songs have that witchy vibe and also Fleetwood Mac is one of the most successful rock groups of all time and their popularity can be attributed to witchcraft. This is pure bullshit of course. FM just happens to be an incredible band and Stevie's singing is an overwhelming reason for their popularity.

Witches can be anywhere... and what they get up to can be very fascinating, depending on the writers and performers. Many of the other plotlines from AMERICAN HORROR STORY are, by their nature, limited in a location or event.

my early introductions to emma roberts before she got typecast as a HBIC were nancy drew and aquamarine! she’s SO sweet as nancy drew its uncanny to see in hindsight but in both roles she must’ve been barely hitting puberty. aquamarine is such a fun mermaid film. i think wild child was the role that put her on the map as a world class bitch super star, but that character is like madison if she didn’t have powers and actually had a redemption arc. you should check either of these films out if you ever decide to dive into “chick flicks.” aquamarine feels more like a friendship centered film and wild child has that element too with a bit of romcom tropes.

Honestly I believe that Emma Roberts played a nice character even before the “bitch character” era (I remember her from the Dog hotel movie). Other than that I love this season’s finale, Cordelia really was the best pick to be the next Supreme.

That comment meant that Marie Laveau killed Delphines family after she gave her the potion in the 2nd episode. Her daughters were hanging off the house before Delphine was buried. Delphine didn't kill her daughters but she said she kept them in the attic for over a year. It wasn't a spoiler

Also, Kathy Bates is such an amazing actress, that she made me feel genuinely bad for Delphine somehow. 1 of the things that annoyed a good amount of people who knew about it about this season is the fact they took Baron Samedi and called him Papa Legba when they're 2 different entities, Papa Legba looks like an old man and Baron Samedi is what we see here, he's usually the 1 that leads you to the afterlife in rhe voodoo belief. Of course the decision was made by some executive making the excuse "we're let's call him Papa Legba to be different since nobody knows Papa Legba" which just goes to show that sometimes executives don't know a thing about what people want. Only time 1 should step in is to fix a problem they notice people would hate because there are some good things that have come from executives intervening but those are rare moments unfortunately

Borquita being offed by Marie Laveau wasn't a spoiler, they literally showed us that Marie hanged Delphine's daughters and husband in like the first or second episode. As soon as Delphine woke up after being "poisoned" with immortality, she walks out her front door to find Marie Laveau and an angry mob, and sees her family hanging from a tree. Not sure why you thought that was a spoiler tbh.

Coven isn't my favorite. I think it's a bit overrated personally. It falls somewhere in the upper middle in my season rankings. As for the next few seasons.....S4 is okay. But I'm most looking forward to you getting to S5 Hotel atm.

24:15 Sister Jude was a lot more redeemable. However, I will say that Fiona has her moments and flickers of kindness. I think what separates the two and their actions is that Jude was a sadist within the confines of a bureaucracy where her actions were condoned by the authority and society during the time, but she was also consistently undermined because she was a woman. In my opinion Jude’s moral compass just got screwed up for a bit, but she was not inherently bad. Fiona’s actions are much more hedonistic and wanton. Moreover, the majority of Fiona’s drive is out of self-preservation and narcissism rather than driven by contextual influences like Jude’s. Which I believe makes her a more evil character (although she has moments where she acts with good or not purely out of self-interest). I will say, full disclosure, Sister Jude was probably my favorite performance from Jessica Lange though so I’m a bit biased haha.
