Nah, didn't see any obviously mentally ill people in this episode. Depressed people stay at home, and narcissism as a single personality trait isn't a diagnose on its own. The problem is that people on average are not very smart or self aware. Straight 100 IQ folks aren't too bright, and half the population are below that. What we do see here is the Dunning-Kruger effect in full flight - the skill to do something is tied to knowing how good you are at something. Incompetent people usually don't know they're incompetent. It's not strange that they'd swarm around competitions like this. Also, the editors cut out the majority of auditions that were just a bit "meh".

Well ppl with mental issues should'nt been banned from enter the competition,but they all need to sing in front of several producers before this stage & could've been stopped or at least not picked out just to be laught at in front of tons of ppl.watching telly/youtube & such.Used to find Idol funny myself,tonedeaf over-the top contests in general but watching this now as I'm older & my kids are in their teens I don't find it funny whatsoever.Where are their families/real friends BTW.Having said that there are obviously lots of issues but not necessarily that many suffering severe mental health problems. Still wonder why I tuned into this though🤔

No offense, but many of these people exhibit the Dunning-Kruger effect, a cognitive bias in which low-ability individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability as much higher than it really is. And sadly they don't have the EI (Emotional Intelligence) to pick up on the visual cues that the judges send them. That said, I feel angry that the judges (mostly Simon) literally insult people - if the auditioners lack talent, that's one thing, but there's never a need to get personal. You can Google EI and Dunning-Kruger if you're interested. I'm frankly surprised it's so prevalent.

Wow. I had no idea people like this were seen by record producers/promoters every day in auditions. Most surprising is their anger and rudeness when they're told the truth about their lack of talent. I think it's like you said in another post. Their family or friends have been telling them "No, you have a good voice! Just give the American Idol audition a shot!" I would be really perturbed if someone told me that I had a good voice and I sound like someone was stepping on a cats tail!

Ole Nielson It has nothing to do with the DUNNING-KRUGER effect. It has to do with heartless producers who fooled people into thinking they were great, just to humiliate them on t.v. For every bad performer put through the first 2 rounds of judging to make it on the show, the judges had to reject actually talented singers. It was all done for ratings. Disgusting when you think about it.

I feel kinda bad for male singers because not many men have a high range of vocal ability. Sisqo, Miguel, Chris Brown, Boys II Men, Seal, James Brown, etc. have a really moving vocal range and quality to me. A lot of other male singers just sound the same. P.S. Jordin killed it!

Jonathan jayne is an absolute sweetheart, i used to ride the bus with him in Renton and he was always so polite and usually talked with the older people on the bus. He would have been a great friend to everyone in the competition for sure lol.

Simon, although on this show was ..well ...let's say "direct" ...but he always tells the truth. I can't believe how some of these people have deluded themselves ...thinking they can sing. As for Jordan Sparks audition, he was going to put her through, gave constructive criticism because he wanted her....and wanted her open to improvement. So , honesty is the best policy. I actually don't understand how they can sit through all of those horrific auditions...don't they weed some out before they ever get in front of the panel. It would drive me nuts.

Yes. They go through some auditions before they get in front of Simon randy and Paula. They weed out all of the average ones and let through some who are really good and really bad for the entertainment factor.

You know how they always put together clips of everyone singing the same song? That's their initial audition. The producers see that and then decide who to let through to the judges or not. They look for the very good and the very bad in order to make the show entertaining.

They put the bad people through on purpose. The truth is that the show actually tells these people they are good in the first rounds of auditions. The way the show presents things is not at all how it works. The first round of auditions is thousands of people that go 10 at a time in front of executive producers, they will put bad people through and gas them up because it makes for good tv if they are believing they are good. They then go through a second round of auditions with producers and then after passing those and receiving even more encouragement, they then go through the celebrity judges and appear on tv.
