American imprisoned in Syria freed following fall of Assad regime

FYI: People ask, how come he was fed well and never tortured, while his fellow inmates were being tortured everyday. Well, its because he is an "American". Yes, being an "American" is not only a privilege, but in a Syrian prison you automatically become a "priceless" item. And here is why: Reason 1: The main reason behind why he was fed well and kept healthy, is because the Assad Regime/Iranians was probably going to use him as a bargaining chip later, in order to accomplish the impossible. Such as getting the United-States and UN to "Lift Sanctions" and "Free its frozen wealth" etc. Reason 2: The second reason is because usually when a country tortures and mistreats a foreign prisoner. Then several organizations and UN Bodies will investigate the country for human rights violations. And these organizations play a crucial role in documenting abuses, advocating for victims, and holding perpetrators accountable. So the whole point of them feeding him and keeping him healthy was done for a purpose. Sadly Syrians' doesn't have that privilege.

Don't care the circs, just glad our fellow American is OUT and this guy free. Free the rest of American hostages, including in Gaza and in Israeli jails our media doesnt report on. No Syrian should be experiencing these horrible conditions. The Asads should have been expelled decades ago and the French never should have had the mandate for this mess they helped create.

I'd agree, except that I suspect he really is a religious loon who thought God was telling him to go to Syria. Add in the fact that he's American & I'd wager money that he was oblivious to how dangerous his pilgrimage was & thought God would protect him. Reminds me of John Chau, the American evangelical who got murked by the Sentinelese when he decided it was his mission to convert them to Christianity.
