After fitting a few bells and whistles, it's time to fire up the old girl again!

AMAZING progress from a rusting hulk with a broken valve to a water tight smooth running motor love it thank you for the video.

It sounds great. I don’t know what the car is going to look like but it’s going to have one cool motor. Thanks Chris

Hi Chris , love the build . I've watched this video a couple of times. If you go to Pacific Northwest Hillbilly you'll see that Matt has set up his engine run-in stand with the same tach guage. On his he placed a hall effect sensor near the front pulley with a magnet glued to the surface of the rotating dampener for signal generation. Might be the same for yours! Cheers

That is starting to sound great Chris! I'll be very interested to see the inside of the gearbox.. and, of course the chassis....

Engine sounds great looking forward to hearing about the chassis 😊

Good episode. So maybe part of the getting hot issue at idle is related to your timing. Not the 10* initial, but the lack of vacuum advance. Idle is a high vacuum situation and motors love advance in high vacuum situations. So maybe 22* total at idle would knock quite a bit of heat out of it. Why, because with vacuum advance you can reduce the carb opening and lessen the fuel going in to get to your desired idle speed. Less fuel, less heat 😅 The ideal initial timing is probably 10* or so anyway. That'll have to be determined with it in chassis running up a hill with your preferred gasoline and just staying out of ping 😁 During it's fire days, it had a massive radiator and it was expected to be driving or pumping, both load scenarios, so no vacuum. But going to lightly loaded car driving, it'll need to be more flexible 😀

She runs so smooth and not as loud as I was expecting. I did try and catch the fuel as it poured from the open drain plug, ha, ha. Great episode, Chris. The gearbox will be interesting, I'm sure.

When watching back it feels like that fuel is pi55ing out for an eternity before I spot it! As Mr Mainwaring would say... 'stupid boy'!

Love it! What a pig-snorter of an engine. Had me worried when it boiled over, thought maybe head gasket had failed! Eagerly awaiting the chassis reveal.. Les

That is a sweet running engine. Nice job on the dash with the gagues. Might I suggest a relay to turn the fan on at a certain temp. I am looking forward to seeing the next episode. Cheers!
@lanceneuman95288 сағат бұрын
I guess the opening ceremony for the temp gauge was more exemplary than that for the tacho. Thanks so much Chris.

I just fitted one of those £26 fuel pumps to my v-max - my 3rd pump😂. Don't let them run dry or pull a vacuum. Filter King fuel filter/regulator would do the trick and I see they come with a gauge now. Good luck with the gearbox.

Lovely V12 burble. I use a carter rotary fuel pump in my old VW. Nice low pressure with no need for a regulator. Those retro malpassi regulators do look nice though

Bloody love that motor Mate cant wait to see it installed in ?
@anthonygrodecki79689 сағат бұрын
Yep great progress and yes want to see your chassis selection. That gearbox looks very sad and heavy hopefully not just rust inside. But I guess you’re going to be having fun cutting gears I have only cut straight gears internally will be fun.
@mattsherwood350110 сағат бұрын
Ran beautifully . Well done. You set the rev counter as a 6 cylinder. I know your only using one of the ign circuits but it still fires all 12 cylinders surely. Anyway, love your work and channel.

Great job sounds brilliant .I think water issue is due to latent heat build up a problem with big cast iron motors ,

The 'ceremony' needed more bling for that tach to work, obviously. Doesn't the needle screw in/out to adjust float lvl on the ol stromy's..great stuff as always

The gear shift is set up for a remote gear lever.If you remove shift housing a gear shift lever will bolt on.

wow what a lovely sound did you feel it in your chest??? ive been looking forward to that like you for a long time. Obviously not as much as your self but hey fantastic. A engine first start after a rebuild up is a magical thing. My brother rebuilt a large1920s/30s lister boat engine once dispite anchoring it" it still walked off down the garage so he was forced to pull the fuel while he was throwing tyres infront of it to prevent it walking through the wall and into the garden" With a young me running behind it with a piece of guttering pipe for a make shift exhaust trying to hold on to it for dear life like wrestling a giant snake. That was great very exciting lol

Regarding it slightly will help with cooling 😊, could you get an old Lucas tachometer for now 👍👍

Sounds pretty good, especially given how it looked inside. If you get unlucky on that gearbox you might get lucky and find it uses a SAE standard bellhousing pattern.
@timeast641210 сағат бұрын
Hi,the motor sounds really sweet.I did wonder if the radiator pressure cap was off so the system wasn’t pressurised,that’s what caused the overheating.

Sounds great. There is a chap in the USA that supplied me with a repair kit for the lift pump on my Dodge, includes replacement poppet valves, diaphragm etc and is suitable for ethanol fuels, the fuel pump looks identical to the one fitted on my 6 cylinder engine but presumably has a greater flow capacity?

Sounds great! I have the same (or similar) Chinese Rev counter that I want to fit to my ‘29 Midget. But I got the diesel version for the 4K Rev range. Perhaps a mistake…

Measure the successful float level using thickness of drill stem width. Replicate on other float. Drill stem widths are often used on carb sets.

Need to move the rubber fuel line from where it is touching the hot exhaust manifold. Might get a nasty surprise.
@swackerle9 сағат бұрын
While the base of the fuel pump looks application specific, the top looks a lot like other fuel pumps just clocked differently. I wonder if there is a source more local to you in which you could use the top off of a new one, with your base?
