People are talking about the rich snagging second passports through 'Golden Visa' programs in places like Portugal, Greece, and New Zealand. But the real conversation should be about American passport privilege.
Back in 2021, while making a documentary, I highlighted this very topic, and I've just republished a video essay about it on my KZbin channel. 📽️
Travel shouldn't be limited to the rich and famous-it's for everyone! Yet most Americans don't fully grasp the value of our navy blue passport. In 2023, the US State Department reported that 48% of Americans now have passports, up from previous years. But that still means 52% don't.
There are plenty of reasons why: not enough paid time off, misconceptions about the cost, or simply not feeling the need due to the vast diversity within our own borders.
But let's talk facts: the US passport grants visa-free access to 189 countries, ranking 6th in the Henley Passport Index. Meanwhile, the Afghan passport only grants access to 28 countries. 😳
