American Patriot Sportfishing, 1000 Fish Howell Hook Trip

This video highlights a 4 Day fishing trip (12-15 June 2023) on the American Patriot to Howell Hook in the Gulf of Mexico. Targeted species were a variety of snappers, groupers and tilefish. The American Patriot and the sister boat American Hunter are based out of Rose Marina on Marco Island, Florida. Besides myself, there were three members of The Villages Deep Sea Fishing Club on the trip.
Charlie and Jennifer Pryde have lived in The Villages for three years and in Central Florida for seventeen years. Our main activities in The Villages are biking, fitness parks, pickle ball, platform tennis, golf and swimming. We love to travel throughout Florida, the United States and internationally. Our KZbin channel’s focus is on promoting a physically active lifestyle for mature adults, but we will also indulge ourselves in a good restaurant, bakery or watering hole that we find during our travels.

It certainly isn't cheap and the Patriot is booked out 6 months in advance. I am opting for the American Hunter for my next two trips (3 day Dry Tortugas). Tight Lines!

I couldn't deal with the sound of the electrics all day, in nj the premier deep drop boat has trips that are manual reels only trips. Those trips we can fish as deep as 1000ft. Idk why the American patriot doesn't offer trips like that

Are you drift fishing dropping 4-5 pound weights and winding up manually from 1000 feet and doing that for 48 hours straight? If so, you NJ guys must spend a lot of time in the gym😊

Electric reels? Isn’t that commercial fishing? Brought home a lot fish either way. Enjoy fish for the next 3 months!

Fishing in 500-750 feet of water with 3-4lbs of lead, you may be able to hand crank a 15 pound snapper up once, but that will be about all before exhaustion. Electric reels are the common technique for deep drop fishing these days.

Question: So on every head boat Ive ever been out on it's been the same situation, everyone wanted what they considered the " Best " fishing spot on the boat and that's always on the stern. So I was wondering if you noticed any big differences in the quantity of fish, anyone, one guy was catching solely based on where he was set up fishing. Ive seen some boats that take reservations and charge for a spot on the rail at the stern. And in not talking about trolling just straight up and down bottom fishing, What do you think is there a difference, and is it worth paying extra for?

There is no upcharge for stern positions on the American Patriot or the American Hunter. You select your position at time of booking. If a stern position is available, it is yours. Does a stern position make a difference, depends. If the trip involves drift fishing (deep dropping) then there is no advantage as everyone is fishing on the same side of the boat. If you are slow pitch jigging, then the captain will likely have you in the bow. I think the difference is when dead bait fishing and the boat is at anchor. The current is pushing everything back to the stern. I would much rather have my line going away from the boat on the stern then being up the rail and having my line going under the boat or down the side of the boat. Also as fish are chewing baits the scraps are going with the current towards the stern which tends to attract more fish to that area.

There were no Wahoo caught although guys did troll for them. There were 4 Blackfin Tunas caught by guys slow pitch jigging on the bow of the boat.

I noticed a lack of females. Is this a male only trip? 16:37

There were two females booked on the trip. Unfortunately one had to return home for a family emergency. The other said she had a great time. One guy said he is bringing his wife on the next trip because the boat is so nice. I have been on this boat 4 times for multiday trips and there has always been some females on the boat as either crew or passengers.

Good fishing boat but he is getting too greedy.

Not sure it is any more than other headboats fishing in those waters. Commercial guys are bringing in more than that.
