To be honest. The only thing I would like to see is another update to add more modes. The game is fun. Deep rules set. We have a blast when playing co-op to get those modes complete. I have 6 machines. And it gets a lot of play when people come over. Even wife loves it. Once you get it dialed in adjusting the power for the ball launch to chest and flipper adjustments it is great shooter. Multi ball on it freaking nuts. Like I said. Only thing is an update would be nice to add more new things but it does not get boring. Built like a tank. I just picked up the pin lights for it also. If you can get it for good price definitely worth it. Totally different experience playing it at home than at a show to hear the call outs and when you get teased by the machine for stupid shot. This is what American pinball needs to go back to and I hope cup head follows what Houdini is. Awesome.

What I'd like some content provider to do is get information as to exactly how and why David Fix still runs American. It is obvious to everyone that he is grossly incompetent as the head of a pinball company. Why is this the case? Why hasn't he been fired? Does he have the most stock? Does he have an unbreakable deal? Is it too much money to buy him out? Does he have compromising pictures of the owners? When they released 'BBQ', I actually thought that it was like an April Fools Joke. You mean to tell me that they actually made a game that amounts Oktoberfest and eliminated all the fun, toys, art and animations and left it with just the BBQ part of Oktoberfest, one of the worst received games in pinball history and then decided to sell it for about the same price as Oktoberfest when it came out? This is almost incomprehensible. It's as if he is trolling the pinball community but doing so with real money. Is David Fix secretly a child of Elon Musk or Bill Gates and has unlimited amounts of cash to burn?

Choosing to develop GTF and/or BBQ over WH2O2 is an absolutely crazy decision. If Nordman really had a design/playfield for it, man what a missed opportunity for them. It’s very surprising that AP still exists. Their game designs aren’t terrible but their flippers feel terrible and the games look/feel cheap to me. This might be a nitpick but I can’t stand how their lockdown bars are like…loose. The lockdown bars and flippers are the primary touch points for the player, you have to figure that out if you’re going to sell pinball machines. Fix those things and then we’ll talk about AP having any chance at all.
@bobkloentrup23732 күн бұрын
It's a standard B/W style lockdown bar that's been powder-coated, if it's loose that's on whoever setup / is maintaining the game. Flipper buttons are standard stuff with standard leaf switches, nothing unusual there either. Now flipper feel can / was an issue especially early on Houdini because the power supply was not up to par. Once they resolved that and added the capacitor board to give them some more boost they're pretty good. The mechs are B/W but if you're going to to compare to a modern Stern, they definitely feel soft. Build quality will vary but their cabinets are very well made and their playfields are top-notch, much better than JJP and Sterns.
@colemangreen41912 күн бұрын
@ maybe you’re right it is just what I’m used to. It’s not like a power thing though, it’s just a feel. I was playing some Volley and Firepower and Whitewater a ton recently and shooting those games is really fun, love the flippers. What is different that is causing my perception that there is lag or slop or softness in every AP game I’ve played, it’s not just Houdini. They’re just not fun to shoot, and I just don’t buy that all their stuff is some high quality. The powder coating feels bad, mechs are failing all the time, playfield gets very dimpled. I dunno, I just don’t agree that AP is putting out higher quality stuff than Stern, not to mention anywhere close to 90s B/W quality. If anything they feel less solid than even modern Sterns and somehow even Ninja Eclipse.
@bobkloentrup23732 күн бұрын
@@colemangreen4191 I didn't mean to insinuate the flippers will feel like a B/W game. It's true they use the same physical mechanism but they are driven much differently and with a lower voltage than B/W. Their playfields are made by Bader though, and those are widely considered the best in the industry, sure they'll still dimple but certainly not as much as Micro (JJP) or Stern. Powder coating feel is rather subjective but I've never noticed them feeling worse or better than any other in that regard.

I almost bought an Oktoberfest used. But then YOU showed how impossible some shots were and it wasn’t all that great. Ugh; as a partial German who likes beer, I really wanted this game to be cool! I kind of like the wacky theme and the Artwork is fantastic. Saw the first few streams here and there and was not impressed at all...The animations, come on. Anoooooying. The music is OK, but the dubstep beat gets on your nerve. The shots did not seem really good. A few months past, and I got a chance to play it in may 2024. Had a blast and left pleasantly surprised. But, that was one game. Learnt that this machine was part of a collector which was starting a private club with membership. I had basically unlimited access to it from that moment. I doubt I was able to finish another game. And, I tried multiple times. So many bugs in the code. That's terrible. It will also lose track of the ball. Magnet would grab the ball and not drop into the VUK 9 times out of 10 but on the damn lane guide. It would freeze. Parts would come loose. Ball stuck on the tank Wings. Tank canon tip(which is a post) would fly into the machine. It's a disaster. Then, played also BBQ and was praying for the ball to drain to end the game as quickly as possible. Did not have a second of fun on this one. Those things made me not wanting their first two titles anymore. Now retiring them. Of course, you can have one on the used market for a good amount less. If I was still looking at them, I would not cobsider NIB cause I would not want to be the one taking the hit. I hope they could find a solution, but they would need a killer title with goods shots, music, animations, lightshow and CODE. They may be too far behind the competion right now...

For a company seemingly desperate for sales, makes zero sense why they'd hamstring themselves and screw over a possible White Water 2 release. Even if it was not great it probably would sell pretty well. I went to the AP tour and was both surprised and not with how small their manufacturing space was. Coincidentally David Fix was my tour guide and the way he spoke about the facility it seems like he's in charge of more than just the pinball business. We went through the entire facility and he was talking about how he moves employees from the pinball line to the CPU line when sales slow, and vice versa. I'm surprised you didn't mention the arcade cabinet they're going to be distributing or the return of their Flying Dutchmen redemption cabinet. Those are two additional signs that cash flow struggles are real. Also the fact that they screwed over Pinball Heaven in the UK as being their sole distributor by signing on with another (probably in an effort to dump cabinets from the warehouse). AP is legit the weirdest company man..

I even like BBQ, I think it's a descent game, but it has quality and code issues! I know this first hand. If any pinball manufacturer can't deliver on quality (durability) and decent game code they are not going to survive. GTF, I liked it, then I didn't like it. Mainly I really dislike the animations and cut scenes. It's very disjointed. You have this strange ugly low poly CGI then this high res acted scenes and the corn is over the top in an awkwardly bad way... Well I could go on, but I won't. Maybe a good new title could be "American Pinball Disaster." The object of the game would be to save American Pinball.

Not really the case imo with more manufacturers being better for pinball. When stern was the lone ranger back in the day games were quite affordable, different times i know but still very reasonable in pricing. In last 10 years with the emergence of several other major players there has only been significant increases and constant price gauging with companies tag teaming in bending us over and F@$king us hard!!! On another note whenever pinball influencers or podcasters get DF on their show they tip toe around him and throw the biggest softball questions at him. It almost feels like they're encouraging him and affirming his decisions when hes on these shows, so some responsibility needs to go to these shows as DF thinks that the feelings of these guys interviewing him is what the whole community is thinking also.

American pinball is a joke! Hot wheels was a wasted license in my opinion. Galactic tank force was horribly done as a project and and if they would’ve marketed it better and focused more on quality that could’ve been a great game. Hats off to Franchise for his artwork as that was phenomenal. Last straw for me is what transpired with Flip N Out and filling orders for games that were ordered and AP thought they could strong arm suppliers and/or buyers. AP is dead to me no matter what they make!!!

Imagine showing up to an irrelevant theme pinball competition and your competition is AP

Oh yea! Hot wheels! Seems like a cool theme to this guy, but again, heard it sucks. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I’m not trying to poop on a company. I WANT more companies making fun games

HW doesn’t suck. Fun modes that have well synchronized light shows and shaker use. The animations and music are good. Shots are tight but makeable. Theme integration between redline mania, loop crash, and track builder multiballs are all good. There’s a fun race to complete, orbit to ramp is fun and smooth. Skill shot actually takes skill. Genuinely can’t find much wrong with it. It’s not the deepest of games but what’s there is a blast and code complete.

Thanks for setting me straight! I loved hot wheels growing up. What you say about it not being deep but fun resonates with me. Simple can be great. I’ll have to find an example. Thanks again.

Their best and only enjoyable pinball machine is Houdini. Everything else was a series of bad decisions.
