Grime clashes are very different to rap battles. If you look up a lot of grime clashes in general it all comes down to flow and who can grab the crowds attention more rather than raw lyrical ability. Obviously they will incorporate specific lines for their opponent but the main aim is who can get the best reaction from the crowd and get something called a wheel up which is the best sign of winning a clash. Thats why youll find a lot of grime mc’s using bars that the crowd know and can rap a long with. Its all about the crowds response

I would love to see more clashes especially as the format is so different to what I was raised on. I totally can see who can shut it down the best is the goal after just seeing the one with Wiley and Kano. Yea the wheel up is special especially when man comes from nowhere and takes the mic and gets one. I can't remember the Skepta video but he pulls up and goes ham and they wheel it up. Yo thank you for the detailed breakdown though cause I really was pressed over the format as it isn't anything like an American BR.

@@Jurnalist_ I also love American battle rap and I live in the UK, watched probably 1,000+ battles across all different platforms. At that time we had "Dontflop" you might remember? On dontflop they had a few grime clashes that were seperate to the battle rap you could check out ! I remember a legendary one between Dialect and Bilzar, a few others worth checking too !

Glad you brought up crews, soo much history. Roll deep crew was one of the first crews to do it big. Wiley was in charge and he’s the one who found grime. These clashes its 16 for 16, so 16 bars each, sometimes someone will go on for a 24 or 32 and it gets awkward, but usually you'll be expected to go after 16 bars, if your opponent does a 24 then you do a 24
@Jurnalist_2 жыл бұрын
Yea that format is built off of respect and an adherence to the format that I just cant see happening in America. Dudes get snuffed for hat brim pushes no way they would pass the beat or the mic back to the coemption in a respectfully timely manner lol.

I think they would of heard some of eachothers bars before but I think they are so in tuned with the beat, ect that he can pick up the rhyming words and hype on them. They switch from one to other so quick because its a battle and even though its about the lyrics at the core, it's all about show.... thats why they face the camera and not eachother. Don't forget this was like nearly 20 years ago, when grime was still in it early days. #Skill Alot of these tracks are from dj stryder and was some of the hardest tracks at the time.
