In American Football a player has to land with both feet in bounds and they have to maintain control of the ball. In Australian Football a player has the option to mark or play on from the moment they take the grab. Even if the ball is knocked out or you are KO'd it is still a mark, (as long as the umpire agrees). Standing drop kick. Missile drop kick of the top rope. In Australia you can call a person a "drop kick". 🤣

If the umpitre decides the player had control of the ball before he hits the ground due to impact, it is still a mark.

A drop kick: In wrestling it is when you kick with both feet together as you drop your body. In Rugby, it is the kick they use to kick a field goal. In Australian Football, it is a type of kick rarely still used, same as the Rugby version. In Australian slang, it is a derogatory term. American equivalent would be jerk or idiot.

You keep referring to marks as “disrespectful” what is really bad is if you get out of the way and let the opposition mark it and you are then labelled a coward. There is nothing wrong with someone marking over you, no matter where his arse or balls are, it is just a matter of the player being in a better position than you and marking the ball. You Americans worry about disrespect, we Australians worry about being labelled a coward. AFL is a man’s game in that you worry about one thing and that is getting the ball and keeping your eyes on the ball at all times. Nothing else matters. I played the game from a junior (8 -9) years old and was regularly marked over and sometimes marked the ball myself and never heard the word “disrespect” used. Get over it!

100%. Interesting how it's a cultural difference. The concept of it being 'disrespectful' never even occurred to me until I saw these American reactions. Kinda funny.
