It was funny when Spain played a football match with Romania and most of the spanish suporters bought plane ticket to Budapest instead of Bucharest....Also a lot of politicians and presidents claimed they were ,,happy to be here in Budapest'' being actually in Bucharest,or viceversa. Also the american soldiers ment to go to Bagdad, arrived at the Nato center in Babadag, wich is in South-East of Romania. They didn't complained much tho, hot beaches nearby, the Danube Delta.....

One thing to remember is for most of the people these questions are being asked of is that English is not their first language so they are not only having to translate the question but they are then having to think of the English answer, and for some of these the names of things are different in English, the native language of the places they are thinking of and potentially also their own languages so....

Most of europes population learns English in school. So most of us have a good grasp on the language. Being bilingual is actually quite normal.

@@CostaWantiinnit, we white English-as-a-first-language-lot are so lazy and limited, sorry. I was pointing out the different names for countries and languages, however, as I think many people who are monoglotal (not even sure that's actually a proper English word) presume that when it comes to lands and tongues we use 'their' real names... like Albania is called Albania in Albania and they speak Albanian there, right, or at an even more basic level many Brits would not know who spoke español even whilst ordering an English Breakfast in Marbs

I Agree, for example the question:"Name 4 (Europeanen) countries that end with the same 4 letters... in Dutch this could be Duitsland (Germany), Finland (Finland), Engeland (England) Rusland (Russia sometimes partly included in Europe), Nederland (the Netherlands), but in English these are incorrect, still my first thought is the country namens Dutch.

Some questions are not easy to answer because cities are spelled differently in different languages. Rome is written in German with only 3 letters, "Rom" in Italian but with 4 "Roma", Vienna is called "Wien" in the national language German, Prague is also written in Germany with 4 letters "Prag" in Czech "Praha".

I agree. For example, for the question about the countries' names that start with an "A" but don't end with an "a", all the incorrect answers in English would be valid in French: Argentine, Australie, Austrie, Albanie, Arménie, etc. Even Germany (Allemagne) would be a valid answer!

I'm pretty sure the oldest country in the world is Denmark that was founded in the 8th century. There are plenty of country with thousands years of history, but for example the today Iran is only 45 years old. Vatican City was born in 1929 with the Lateran Treaty between the Holy See and Italy. San Marino has it's traditional independency in 301 AD, but it's formal independency was in 1291, San Marino became a "libero comune" only in 1351, I think is pure bullshit thinking that the Roman Empire could ever allow the birth of an independent country inside of Italy. Especially considering that for Rome, the whole world was Rome.

I know geography pretty well but not as well as you. However, as someone with a degree in science, I knew at 6:00 it would be Antarctica but perked up when the questioner said the low humidity was because the water has become ice on the ground. That is not true. It is the air temperature that matters. The air molecules get closer as the temperature drops and it squeezes out the water. A zone of super cold air is too dense to contain significant moisture. It is perfectly reasonable to expect a northern area of the U.S. without snow where the temperature is -20 degrees Fahrenheit to have drier air than an area south of there that is 30 degrees Fahrenheit with snow on the ground. If Antarctica had the same temperatures and no ice at the surface then it would be just as dry.

I would have guessed at somewhere like Japan as being the oldest country because unlike the ancient World it still exists. That said it can be argued that Japan today is currently only 78 years old, which for context makes it 879 years younger than England and 238 years younger than the UK, let alone being the oldest country. If we're going to go back to pre-history then Orcadian Britain is older than Egypt and Iraq has had farming civilisation from earlier than anywhere. Of course, go back further and you have even older civilisations dating back to the last ice age that grew up in central Europe that pre-date agriculture, the oldest form of writing was discovered in Bohemia and the oldest known non-hunter gatherer site was discovered in the north of central Europe.
