Having a diverse perspective is crucial to what I want to achieve here so please don't hold back! I want to learn about all I can! Keep recommending and PLEAESE join my Discord :) ( / discord )

In the question about official languages of Spain, the quizmaster almost certainly meant Galician instead of Gaelic. I don't know where he is from but at least in English I can see how one could confuse the two. Also, it's nice to see someone from the US doing well in a geograpgy quiz.

The name Galician comes from a Celtic language spoken in Iberia but now is a romance language. Some believe the people have a Gaelic connection but this is disputed. There may be a distant connection between the similar names.

The problem with that question is that it's done in English because in Portuguese there are more one-word countries that have all the vowels in their name.
@rasmusn.e.m1064
@rasmusn.e.m1064 2 ай бұрын
@@module79l28 Had a similar problem. Never heard of a country with all the vowels in it before because no such country exists in Danish: These are our vowels A E I O U Y Æ Ø Å, and most words will have E in all the syllables except the stressed one.

@@rasmusn.e.m1064 - But Moçambique, the official name, is also Mozambique in Danish, isn't it? So at least it has the standard five.
@rasmusn.e.m1064
@rasmusn.e.m1064 2 ай бұрын
@@module79l28 That is true, but that is only because it's a very recent loanword. And here's the problem: We were never taught the "standard five" in Danish class. Yeah, I was taught them later in English class because we had to learn how English speakers refuse to classify Y as a vowel even though very often is one, which seems extra grotesque to us because it represents the same sound as French U or German Ü in Danish except in loanwords like Yoga or Yoghurt and is thus completely different from either I or U. I also think one reason we might have been taught differently than, I assume you must be Portuguese or Brazilian, you is that Æ, Ø, and Å are not thought of as modifications of a single vowel but more like perfect compromises between two vowels: Æ between our standard A and E-sounds, Ø between our O and E-sounds and Å between our A and O sounds. They are also not that rare. Add to that that most people's third language isn't a Romance language but German, and suddenly English just seems like the odd one out; It's the only one out of the three that only has "five" vowels. Anyway, the point is: There was never any reason to suspect that a country might be spelled with our standard vowels, so we didn't learn to think about countries in that way.

The national language of Belize is English not Spanish as it was a British colony until 1984
