I've watched a few of these football explained for Americans type reactions and it's hilarious just how unfathomable it is to them but to the rest of the world it's just normal, also I've noticed that when the reactor talks about American sports stars they don't realise the rest of the world ( except for a few exceptions) haven't got a clue who they are

my advice is not to pick a team just learn more about the clubs, find out when the big games are on and really involve yourself around the sport beyond reactions it’s like a relationship, don’t commit too early. the team that stands for what you like will become the team you love and only then you will be a fan there’s a lot of exciting teams to watch at the moment so just learn more and keep tabs on what they’re doing

On the spending thing: we have a thing that was called Financial Fair Play (now called rules profit and sustainability). The long and short of it is, you’re not allowed to spend more than you make- so that includes sponsors, ticket sales, merchandise sales, tv revenue, prize money for winning trophies etc etc. Every club needs to avoid making a loss of more than £105million over a three year period. So while there’s no ‘cap’, you can’t just give pay ridiculous transfer fees or salaries if it doesn’t align properly with your income. One of the problems with this is that a good number of teams are starting to have sponsors from their owners subsidiary companies, circumventing the rules

How can you not understand how no salary cap works.... Each club is an actual business or company. They can only spend the money they have. The more successful they are, the richer they get. And also if they do badly... they get relegated a league and potentially go bankrupt... It's do or die all the time. It's competitive at both ends of the league for the whole season.

If you go for Aston Villa then you are going for a historic giant who were founders of the football league and were the Man City for like the 1880s-1910s. We’ve pretty much won everything there is to win including the European cup (Champions League) but have spent the last 20 years on hard times including relegation. But after nearly going out of business in 2018, we have new owners who have turned our fortunes around and have employed potentially the best manager we’ve ever had (definitely in the premier league era) and we have a squad of exciting players who are continually improving under Professor Unai. We’re based in Birmingham which is in the middle of the country and our football ground is both historic and pretty and not a new soulless bowl. So if you want a team on the up, then Villa are a good pick. Oh and Tom Hanks supports us

There isn't a salary cap but competitions generally have financial fair play rules, you can't spend much more than you earn or you'll get punished be it with fines or point deductions, depending on how badly you've fucked up. This is also in place to prevent clubs from going bankrupt once they get relegated and their income is suddenly cut by a very large % from losing sponsors or less money for tv broadcasts as not every lower tier game gets broadcast, back in the day quite a few clubs went bankrupt this way, mainly in England.
@richt71
@richt71 4 ай бұрын
No salary caps in Europe but there are rolling amounts you can lose over 3 seasons (currently £105 million) called FFP. While these have been in place in the PL for a number of seasons teams previously got fines for breaking these amounts the PL have started docking points (which have serious financial consequences). Everton lost 10 points and are in trouble again. Manchester City are being investigated for 115 breaches of rules. Abu Dhabi (the country) ultimately own them.

Hi Connor. Once you pick a team to support you stick with it win or lose , this is how it works. You take the good times with the bad , this is what makes the game so exciting and fantastic to watch. You were going along the right lines thinking of Aston Villa to support , I would also recommend Newcastle , Tottenham or Brighton , these teams will all be in contention over the next few years and will give the likes of Man City , Arsenal and Liverpool tough games when they play them. Pick a team , stick with it and enjoy the ride. Good luck !

One, if a team you support / follow goes through a bad patch of results/performance/seasons (to the point of relegation), you still follow/support the team. Two, there's also going down. A bad team can't only just go up. End of season, the three teams at the bottom of the table go down a division. (In this case, from Premiership to the Championship). With no guarantee they get promoted back to the Premiership that next season. As for salary caps, in the 3rd tier (League 1), there is. Players are capped at a maximum of £5,000 / week. No guarantee you'll be paid that much, but that's the limit. To avoid rampant overpaying and club's overspending on players. The top two tiers, it's assumed that by this level, the club's have the money to splash/burn. And with far too many American owners with far too much money who couldn't care at all about players/supporters/the community/management team, etc... players come in knowning they can expect/demand £200-400,000 / week. Pushing away, alienating the local supporters. Thereby ruining the sport. Premiership has 20 teams. Each team plays each other twice. As you cant play yourself, that makes for a 38 game season. P.S.: I'm not a supporter of a Premiership team. I support a 10th tier (amateur) team. Falmouth Town.

The Championship is the second tier of the professional football league pyramid, in England, and is high quality, and very competitive. It's not the players wages that stops them being bought BUT it's the generation of money to the club that that controls the spending for example , The money that the club gets is from selling players and selling the kits ( can be up to 3 different sets , home and away and third ) , sponsorship deals for advertising on shirts , supplying the kits , naming the ground , ticket sales from supporters , television sponsorship for showing the matches all over the world ( not the half dozen in America ) 😅 plus the odd other bits. This is the allowance that they can spend ( think it's calculated over 3 years ) BUT the OWNERS are not allowed to give the club any new money !!!!!

Connor, for context, the video you are reacting to is about the top flight of the English League, of which there are 4 divisions. 20 clubs in the Premier League and 24 in each of the other 3. Totalling 92 professional clubs across the country. The media focus is always on the Premier League and most often the top 6 clubs but there is a lot of entertaining football below that. My profession is a football coach, so clueless. no to wage caps as we go to watch players not owners and it is them who'd get all the money, although spreding it around to all kids playing and those getting proper coaches at all levels would be a great thing plus make the nations players better eventually. Money talks but doesn't win, PSG thought they could buy the CL yet are still trying. Man City, it took them years and years. CFC, took them years and then with a replacement manager. basically all the big clubs and those with history are still there as history matters. They both win but don't win it all as you need many parts of a puzzle to make it all fit, even then! As for a team , your fit is Aston Villa imo. They are in the Birmingham area ( it is Birmingham ), they have won the biggest comp, they've not won anything in a long while plus the future king supports them and you can't understand a word of their squeaky accent. So you win even if you don't win. As for Spurs, well they look like contenders every year then fade away without fail. Plus it is SPURS of which Arsenal fans can explain...Ah there you have it, if you want to piss off your old school friend the Arsenal fan..... be a Spurs fan. Careful though as it pisses off everyone else as well when they're not laughing or pitying you! Oh and as for skills and fitness, every sport has different skills and fitness to what that sport needs, if though you want for me the best sport in the world combining everything a human excels at in sport then biathlon is the one. they need everything and then need to control it after skiing as fast as possible to stay utterly steady to hit a tiny point in the distance, standing and lying down. The world championships are starting very very soon, take a peak.

To discuss wage caps. No, I don't want them. People can argue that 2012 Barcelona, 1999 Manchester United, todays Manchester City are unfair in some way but to watch these teams play is amazing imo. I want to watch teams with a top 4 player in every damn position. Show us with peak football looks like. Dispersing the best players over many clubs would be awful for this imo. Never seeing the true peak potential of the best players in the world because they're held back by their mediocre teammates. Players like De Bruyne are already easily bothered by HIS teammates fucking up. I can't imagine him having to play with worse players, dude would go mental. Not to mention that removing consequences for fuck ups in football just sounds wrong. If you fuck up big time you're SUPPOSED to be out and fuck off to make room for teams that deserve it.

If you want to support a team, there's really only one choice, Wrexham AFC, League 2 team with aspirations to get in the Premier League, they dropped out of the league system for like 15 years or so, last season they won promotion and are now sitting second and looking like getting promotion again this season, they have the Disney+ documentary 'Welcome to Wrexham' (Simply watching both seasons of this show will make you understand the English league system much more) and are owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, they're known as Hollywood FC and even have a Hollywood style Wrexham sign in the town, if I was American looking for a team to support, this really would be a no brainer! No, there shouldn't be a salary cap. Competitiveness is fun, but it shouldn't be enforced through handicaps. Clubs that accumulate success should be rewarded and allowed to build on their past success. The problem, however, is ultra-rich owners and hyper-commercialization. I cannot care about the Prem anymore because of how plastic and pay-to-win it has become. Other leagues have different systems and incentive structures (including supporter-owned clubs, which I always prefer). I'm Swedish and all our clubs are supporter-owned. We still have a dominant club at the moment. But I'm fine with it, they earned it the right way, and it won't last forever.

To annoy your Arsenal supporting roommate, you should support Tottenham Hotspur ( Spurs ) their North London rivals. Or you could choose none of the " Big six " clubs , but go for a promising team, such as Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Wolves, etc. Or if you like supporting underdogs, go for a team that has never won the league. They have not won a cup since since the 1968/69 season but now they are the worlds wealthiest team(dont let that put you off as financial fair play was introduced to combat specifically the ability Newcastle would have if restrictions were not in place meaning that although its still predicted Newcastle will soon break their baron spell it is still going to take a lot of juggling and effort to get there. But the trajectory is going up slowly but surely). Besides, Newcastle United have the most loyal fans in the League that have suffered over the years but they still show up in mass week in week out - over 52,000 of them even through the bad times. P.S. Man city are under a cloud having breached allegedly Financial Fair Play and face 115 charges. Everton got a 10 point deduction with 1 charge, so, Man City are in a position whereby if they don't prove their innocence they could be relegated - and possibly relegated down more than one league. Its all a bit up in the air with that at the moment so if you pick them its possible you could be flying south to lower leagues for a while.

While Aston Villa are doing well at the moment i also don't see them maintaining that run of form year in year out. They will fall to the wayside eventually. Probably in the next two seasons. :D

no salary cap, I'm against the financial fair play rules that force teams to only spend the money they earn and no more, it creates a monopoly for teams with bigger fanbases. Billionaires who are willing to spend their money to make a tiny team win the premier league I'm down for

Will Americans please stop apologizing for referring to Association Football as "soccer." The term was created in England to distinguish the game from (pre-split) Rugby Football, known as "rugger." Everyone in Britain knows the term and we occasionally still use it.

@mzaliwa Yes, without that bit of interchangeability, we wouldn't have had the ITV sports presenter Dickie Davies giving us the spoonerism with what should have been "Now, let's have a look at the Cup Soccer". Here in Ireland we use Soccer very frequently, as Football refers to Gaelic Football.

Just pick any Prem team to follow, doesn't really matter, but also start watching your local team. I imagine it's New England Revolution. Much better having a local team to support, you can get more involved.

Your better choice is ironically Arsenal, a team that can win but hasnt in a long time, with rich history tbh. But mate, become an FC Barcelona fan, a fan owned club based on catalan-european culture, my club obviously ;)

Hate how this guy keeps referring to the teams as franchises. Come on, English football teams are more than that to their fans. It's more like a religion than anything else. Franchise, I ask you.

I think Premier league players get paid far too much, and yes there should be a salary cap. They are not that much better than lower league players, who get paid a fraction of the top players.

My advice is to pick any team that isn't Man City. 115 charges and they bought their way to the top anyway. Nobody born before 2004 gives them any respect.

Many of the big clubs just buy proven " big name " foreign players for a fortune, thinking this will attract more fans. As weve seen with Chelsea, this doesnt always make them a better team. The progressive clubs develop their own youth players, and give them game time. Unfortunately, many are then sold on to the big clubs , who can pay them much more, and so the Premier league is always skewed in favour of the big six clubs. Like most areas in life, football is contaminated by greed.

There is a cap, there's FFP (Financial Fair Play) which every team has to adhere to, Man City have 115 charges of breaking FFP regulations hanging over them, a date has been set of summer 2025 for the charges to be scrutinised, and they could even be relegated to a lower division if found guilty, worst case scenario could even mean being stripped of past titles won, they're basically the Lance Armstrong of the Premier League, they have zero respect from any rival fans. Everton and Nottingham Forest have both had point deductions for FFP violations so far this season and Chelsea who have spent £1b on players in the last year or so are looking to be in serious trouble right now, they have to sell some players before the end of June to bring them back within the regulations, but they're going to basically have a 2 week window to do this and all the other clubs know they're basically f*cked so could demand much lower prices for their players than they want, they've even messed up their future spending for several years to come by giving their players ridiculously long contracts to get around FFP regulations, but those contacts will be deducted from what they're allowed to spend over future years, they're basically in a right mess, but other clubs like Liverpool for example, manage to work well within the FFP regulations as they have owners who are a bit more frugal, which has turned out to be a very good thing for them as they buy players much more intelligently than a lot of the richer clubs.

Please avoid the so called top six BIG clubs. There is no passion from their fans and no links to the local community. In short these clubs are full of bad fans with even worse attitudes. My advice would be a team on the up with a local owner and real support, Brentford, Palace, Fulham, West Ham or Brighton any of these would be a good place to start looking.

If it is "ANYTHING but Arsenal" because of your old room mate... it HAS to be Spurs, it's the law. However, if it is Spurs, then words like "actually, maybe Arsenal" are a capital offence I feel like you're a Spurs boy to be honest. When you're describing a suitable team, you're basically screaming "Spurs". Also, don't support Aston Villa. Nothing against the Villans, one of my best mates supports them. Thing is, unfortunately they're from Birmingham, which means if you ever wanted to actually go and watch them you have to go to Birmingham. Don't go to Birmingham 😋. I know that sounds harsh, but I grew up just outside Brum and it is a dump, sorry. Spurs are based in North London - so much better for any visiting fans. You can pop over to London, enjoy the city, take in a few sights and a nice dinner and catch a game at the mighty new White Hart Lane, be either wowed or utterly disappointed by the team as usual, and get back home all in a single weekend if you so desired, with no need to venture anywhere near Birmingham. Also, very few Americans have actually really done well in the Premier League but, if you go for Spurs, you at least get to adopt Clint Dempsey as a bit of cult player as he did play for Spurs and he actually was pretty good too. 1 final point in the Tottenham box is that, despite being able to expect big signings and being relatively good whilst generally always falling slightly short of success, because the club is so well run Tottenham are 1 of the least likely out of any of the top clubs to fall foul of Financial Fair Play, something which is haunting many other top clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea at the moment. You don't want to be supporting a team that is great on the pitch, wins everything, and then has it all taken away because they spent too much!
