Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). Nice to hear someone like our country. 🎉 Of course you need than one trip to se it all. 🤩I have spend numerous vacations in different part of my mothercountry and I still have not get it all😎. It is lots off differences in the different regions cous to different nature/climatezoones/history/cultures/ traditions/language or dialects and much more. Current swedish borders are relative new and the different parts have been part of sweden different ling time and have different past. The variation of dialects are large and even if I am teacher in swedish and studied and traveled a lot I have in some place trouble to understand tha spoken language in my own country. Welcome again!

15:23 That's prince Carl Philip, and his princess Sofia. He became first in line to the throne when he was born, since Swedish succession laws favoured the male children at the time. This was very rapidly changed by the Riksdag, so that Victoria became crown princess again. The third royal sibling, princess Madeleine is missing here.

Played at the grand opening of the parliament, in your face, politicians. There's no doubt who still holds the power, in case the parliament loses their grip. It's very likely the majority of the people would give it back to the king, the symbol of stability. I'm not sure he would know what to do with it and neither are we, but he is the plan b of the people at least if things go sideways, people still complain to the royal court when politics goes too far mad. The royal court politely replies yes, a bit sad ain't it? but there's no doubt about their symbolical value being the core of the nation itself.

The tall hat: The two men sitting at the back outside of the coach and also opening the door for the King and Queen are their personal pages/servants. The shorter white feathers belong to the King's servant, the tall colourful ones are carried by the Queen's servant. The very tall feathers date back to the Queen married to the first King of the current royal family, the French Bernadotte family. He was one of Napoleon's marshals. The Queen, once engaged to Napoleon, before he ended it, was so short that she had the servant following her around wear those tall feathers so that she would always be noticed and visible in a crowd. The King on the other hand was very tall for a man back then, 185 cm or 6'1''.

Was never a fan of the monarchy when younger but it has grown on me with age. The king is a sympathetic guy and does a good job representing Sweden.

In what way would a president be better? same cost but the risk that it will be a clown instead. elections are based on power and intrigue and hypocrisy. apart from Finland, Ukraine and Iceland, there is hardly a president who does not have a Trump warning. A regent, on the other hand, is someone who has been brought up to be responsible for the country without having to participate in the political monkey game. long live the monarchy.

The couple you were unsure about was Crown Princess Victoria’s brother Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland and his wife Princess Sofia. Their sister Princess Madeleine has also attended in the past but she currently lives in the US with her husband and children.

To be fair the modern idea of parliamentary democracy is born out of the monarchies. The first Swedish parliament was created in the 1300's, and for a while Sweden used to elect the king. The idea of royal blood lines is fairly recent in Europe at least, think more roman emperors + senate than the kings of the 1600's. You can't as a king really rule a huge piece of land without local councils and such to take care of the day to day stuff unless you go full totalitarian but that has never worked for too long historically speaking.

If I remember it correctly; The metal helmets are members of the royal guard or the life guard if you prefer. Those with larger “napoleonic” hats are higher officers. The royal stable master has the white plume and the very different hat with the striped uniform is the chamberlain.

If you want to watch a similar parade in the Netherlands, search for “Prinsjesdag”. It’s the Dutch version of this very similar event. And can be compared to the US State of the Union. The King rides from his work palace to the Binnenhof(Houses of Parliament), to give his “King’s Speech” or the “Troonrede”. Look for the 2019 version, because the traditional location is under construction.

Prince Carl Philip is Crown princess Victorias brother, they also have another sister that lives in the U.S with her husband, who is an American and their kids. Prince Daniel (the one who looks like superman) is married to Crown princess Victoria and he was actually her personal trainer at the gym he owned. When he married into the royal family he can not own a business, but he works with charity and is doing a lot for kids using his former education. Princess Sophia was not royalty before she married Carl Phillip, but is doing a great job being a princess.

The man in "the hat" is Kungens livjägare. The Kings personal servant. If I don't remember incorrectly the hat is for visibility in a crowd. Since he's supposed to stay close to the King then it makes it easy to know were the King is in a crowded room etc. The other person standing on the back of the landau is Drottningens löpare. The queens servant.

The other way around. The tall feathers date back to Desideria being short. Karl Johan was easily spotted as he was tall. You see the letter ''S'' (twice, intertwined) for Silvia on his hat.

Are you getting any answers to your questions? 1. The crown on the roof of the first carriage shows that it is the King's carriage. 2. The guy with the tall plume is H.M The Queen's "runner", her personal guard. He has the Queen's monogram on the front of his hat as you may see! The reason for the tall plume is that, according to history, the first Bernadotte Queen Desideria was very short and the plume helped locate her position in the crowd! Traditions as said!!! Cool!😉 3. H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria followed the royal couple together with her husband H.R.H Prince Daniel. Last, H.R.H Prince Carl-Philip (brother of the Crown Princess) went with his wife H.R.H Princess Sofia. You saw the speaker of the house greating them as they arrived. As you rihgly recognized that was the crown princess Victoria and her husband Daniel, and the princess' younger brother Carl-Philip, who was for a brief moment in time the Crown Prince, until the changed the laws of succession, and his wife Sofia.

Unlike the British and Commonwealth Realms, the king of Sweden isn't the nominal chief exec nor does he have reserve powers. As such, the King isn't the Sovereign, but instead an entirely ceremonial head of state.

I can answer that then, I was born and raised in Sweden. You asked who they are outside parliament. Those behind the king and queen. Those just behind are Crown Princess Viktoria and her husband Prince Daniel. Those behind the crown princess couple are Victoria's own brother Prince Karl Filip and his wife Princess Sofia.

It was all very confusing ... under the Kalmar Union, 1397-1523, Norway/Denmark/Sweden had a common monarch. Which is more or less why my Danish ancestors had Norwegian and Swedish relatives.

What is your concern with hats? The people wearing them are from different branches of military/monarchy guard in historical uniforms. The guy on the back of the carriage with the bent up hat brim is the carriage footman. All the european monarchies have the same model of military representation and ceremony with slight variations country to country. However, never seen a king exit a carriage ass first. 7:40+.

The speaker of the parliament (preciding officer of the national unicameral legislature) broke the etiquette, the lady always invite the handshake by raising her hand first, the male always waits for this signal of a permit to shake hands before raising his hand. Queen Silvia would in no doubt be capable of correcting a politician in manners and procedures :-) not to mention health safety protocols imposed on the very people the politicians are set to rule. He is making a fool of himself considering his status and she is reminding him of it, firmly but gently. If he gets it there's hope. Otherwise he could always become a farmhand somewhere. And if he were a farmhand, not speaker of the parliament, she would most likely have taken his hand. Her daughter crown princess Victoria 'reads the room' and throws her hand up rapidly to avoid any more calamities. This is why we love them both.
