This is one of my favourite sketches by them. To understand it it's necessary to consider that post-war Britain was throwing up modernist tower blocks (often badly built) as a solution to the housing crisis developed by the destruction of homes in the blitz. But also as a kind of social experiment. And there is a more sinister element. Only a few years ago, Grenfell Tower (in a neighbourhood my parents grew up in in London in the 1960s) literally burned as a result of a fire. And the government response was muted to the extent that it blamed the residents. So this perhaps takes on a new resonance...

Also, that the Freemasons traditionally have more influence in business and governmental old-boy networks than in the US, so Cleese begging to be a Mason, and the How to Recognize a Mason sketch afterwards had more local resonance.
