Londoner here…. This sketch is so funny because it’s true. If you say hello to a stranger, they’ll probably think you’re mentally ill 🤣🤣🤣

Believe it! I've seen many an article from The Guardian about Southerners who've moved up North to Yorkshire etc. because their new neighbours walked past them on the street or whilst waiting for a bus saying "Alright love?" Or being friendly and they're in shock! They're really surprised outside of London how friendly and non-ignorant people oop' North can be!

Eye contact on the tube is a definite no no. I lived in London for 20 years and if someone tries to speak to you on the underground you automatically think they have mental problems 🤣🤣

The divide is quite real. I remember me and my brother stopping off in North Derbyshire at a chip shop. He opened his mouth to order something and everyone looked round. It was like one of those scenes in a western when a stranger enters the saloon and someone goes 'Y'all not from around these parts...'

As a former Londoner I would agree, one does not offer a random "Hello" to passing strangers/commuters. I visited Yorkshire in the 70's & they were so friendly, I'll never forget that, it brings a smile to my face, but back in London just focus on the pavement or into thin air.

This is true, I'm a Northerner from Sheffield, we are very warm and friendly. My daughter has lived in London since 2014, she warned me when I first visited not to speak to Southerners because they get upset, they even have carriages on trains where you're not allowed to speak, needless to say I don't go to London often. Southerners are a strange lot.

Im from newcastle. Me and friends went to a live music show in london sometime ago. And we needed a taxi... through the journey me and lads were just cracking on, laughing and joking on. Basically the normal for use northerners... at our destination the meter said just shy of £30.. the taxi driver waved his hand and said " just give me a fiver lades" actually using our slang. "Thats the best convention ive had in years..

Like every big city people are not so friendly as in a smaller community. Londoners generally don’t stop and speak. Northerners are a more friendly!

We have busy lives in London and don't expect to talk to strangers.

It's factually correct. The South of England is a place I now avoid like the plague, especially London.

I live in Surrey which is a county next to London and I stopped using the car so much and now walk to most places locally and it is quite surprising the number of people who say morning . It still takes some getting used to .

Ma'am as you would be a tourist you would be forgiven for any faux pas in greeting random people in the street.

It's quite true. I live in a big city in England, and it's rude/eccentric/alarming if you do things like:

Must be similar in New York? Any big city commuters are rushing around or stressed about this/that/the other
