HH was often compared to Monty Python skits for a reason. The skits and songs were over the top and irreverent, yet still slyly educating the masses through clever humour. The cast and crew were so passionate, despite having a showstring budget (compared to other better financed UK comedy shows at the time). This is why the show holds up after a decade since its first airing.

I just couldn’t resist having a look for Minty Badger, and she really did exist! I think her first name could have been Aminta, but she does come up as “Minty” on the 1861 census, living with her mum and dad (who had normal names - Samuel and Elizabeth!). She used the name Minty when she married Richard Large, in Warwickshire, in 1866, so I suppose she became Minty Large? They had five children, but I think maybe he died because she shows up again as Aminta in 1876, marrying Charles Garner . . . then he died and she married Frederick Rawbone in 1893. So Minty Badger ended up as Minty Rawbone - and didn’t die until she was 94, in 1938!
