Jimmy Saville was a radio DJ and presenter/TV personality from Leeds who was known for his eccentricity, catchphrases and loud outfits. He presented for the BBC for a number of years, two of his most famous being Top of the Pops and Jim'll Fix It. The latter was a show in which little kids would write in with their wishes and Jimmy and the production crew would make their dreams come true. At the end of each episode, the kids would be rewarded with a medal saying "Jim Fixed It For Me". As well as presenting, Saville did a lot of charity work and even volunteered at hospitals such as Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury. He was later given the keys to Broadmoor, which is a high security mental facility in the UK. He was knighted after former PM Maggie Thatcher requested for him to get one for many years, and after his limelight faded, Saville died in 2011. In the aftermath, several allegations of inappropriate behaviour and misconduct surfaced after many of his victims came forward, basically saying that Saville used his high status to abuse innocent people to do what he wanted while "hiding in plain sight". After this huge scandel shook Britain and the investigation by Operation Yewtree went underway, Saville's headstone was removed and later destroyed.

Karl & I share a few things in common. He was born 2 months before me. We were both going to be called Brett, but our parents changed their minds just before we were born. I love that you'd get into the perfect world floatation device thingy, MAINLY to get an upgraded, perfect streamlined digestive system 😂 better than a bag of chips i suppose i think Karl's whole "problem" idea was so spot on. basically, humans always have to have a "problem" (or a goal, form of a problem) and even if that problem is small, it still feels just as big. a child who wants a blanket is probably just as stressed as an adult who's having a bad day at work, even though the problem itself is much smaller

Just FYI, the video starts with Ricky saying 'Robert Nozick did this thing...' Nozick is a philosopher (mainly of ethics) who is famous for his 'experience machine' thought experiment. It was meant to undermine simple hedonistic ethical theories, on the assumption that most people wouldn't want to enter the machine, which would suggest that truth/reality is a value over and above mere pleasure.

Karl pretty much summed up a key point of Eastern Philosophy innit. If you had endless time, and you could be in complete control of your experiences, you'd spend aeons experiencing everything you'd ever want to, you'd fly, you'd master all the skills in the world, you'd have a harem of supermodels, but eventually you would become bored. Eventually, you would relinquish control, because you'd realise having everything you ever wanted and never facing adversity is not really living.
@stevenkaye1625 Жыл бұрын
So firstly, "I would eat the world" is I think the best quote from you so far 🤣 Secondly, I relate to your attitude about food on a very deep level lol. I agree that there is ALWAYS room for dessert. If I'm out to eat with people and I hear someone say "Oh I don't think I've got room for dessert", I have to say... I lose a little respect for them lol. Also in regards to your neighbour... there's an older guy at my gym who is exactly like that! He'll come over to me and start speaking, and it's as if he'd started that conversation with someone else 30 minutes ago, and they walked off, and he's come over to me to finish it 🤣 And I always feel bad for him because I get the impression he doesn't speak to many people outside of the gym, so I always feel obligated to try and have the conversation with him but seriously... sometimes I have no idea what he's talking about.

0:25 "Robert Nozick did this thing th-that if you could go into a flotation tank". - The experience machine or pleasure machine is a thought experiment put forward by philosopher Robert Nozick in his 1974 book Anarchy, State, and Utopia. It was an attempt to refute ethical hedonism. 1:20 Again with the Munchies lol. They are not crisps, or chips they are a cube shaped chocolate with a biscuit centre surrounded by caramel. Someone needs to send you a food basket of things like Marmite, Munchies, Monster Munch to sample on video! 1:50 Don't knock being on the toilet, most men have had trips to the toilet so good they have made us question our sexuality. On a more serious note, just the alone time for someone with ADHD/Autistic traits like Karl is probably a huge motivating factor. 3:20 You invented the Matrix 9:40 Steve's main job has always been the buffer between Ricky and Karl, knowing when Karl is about to spew gold, coaxing it out, but most importantly stopping Ricky from sidetracking them, no more is it more in evidence than these moments where he's telling him to shut up unfiltered

The reason Karl couldn't understand the guy's reference points because he was much wealthier, and the red/pink trousers were typical of a certain upper class style. I must know that from the longer story from XFM.
@arthurspils2565 Жыл бұрын
Always enjoyed the problem hole/gene/ball concept. Theory is Ricky gets lots of small balls which pass through the problem hole, and it's easier for larger problem balls to pass a result. Karl, meanwhile, has less problems but the problem hole can get stuck with a big ball when they happen, so the smaller problems grow the ball instead of slipping down to the problem gene like normal. All about having some catharsis which lets you get around the big stuff, and for Ricky that's getting annoyed and relaxing again quickly.

Interesting question about his pessimism There's a phrase in England "it's grim up North", referring to the north of the country. Karl not only comes from the northern part of the country, but he epitomises this, so it is cultural. Ricky and Steve are very much southerners. The weather is less dull, economically and socially all indicators are better down south generally. Steve is in fact from almost literally the furthest south you can go in England. [Edit: I say this with the impartiality of an Irish person who has lived in northern England and my ex gf is from leafy Kent in the south].
@nitelite78 Жыл бұрын
I think Stephen telling Gervais to shut up is actually because Stephen is trying to get the best out of Karl. He knows Karl is coming up with some funny nonsense. It's kind of why Ricky wanted to do the podcast with Karl in the first place - to get the most out of Karl for the viewers but Ricky is too far in to mockery mode and Stephen is trying to get him to shut up so Karl can deliver the magic.

Karl: Poop, Munchies, Suzanne. Me: As much poop as possible please, seafood. Karl can take the floatation tank. As of right now, after all this time seeing your Karl reactions, the only thing I can tell that me & him have in common is the poop thing. He likes it, and I like it. Except, I like it a hundred fifty times more than he does. I like it A LOT. Also, there's a lady on KZbin (a streamer) who once said "everyone likes to poop," so throw her into the pot with me & Karl, on that point. 😂So, that's not as unheard of as most people think. "Enjoy the go, with Charmin," as the toilet paper commercial says ........ Charmin or not, I REALLY enjoy the go. I absolutely LOVE it. I like it so much that sometimes I'm very disappointed when the go is over with. I would be wishing the moment could last a lot longer. I like it THAT much. You can take everything from me, but PLEASE give me my poop time!

ricky is just pure ego, he named the podcast and show after himself even though theres 3 people all having an equal role, he took all the awards (they sit on shelf behind his desk when doing his crappy talks to camera)even though steve was his partner in all the successful stuff, office and extras.

I have been told he wanted to call this "The Karl Pilkington Show" but was advised to use his name instead because he was more well known, and more people would watch. 🤷🏻♀️
