Karl's brain is literally a word association machine. He basically saw an article or documentary about certain types of birds that can mimic other sounds...and decided on his own that they do that because they couldn't "make up" their own noise....and therefore extrapolated that there are only "so many noises" in the world...which he mistakenly correlated to a well known piece of research that explains that in Pop music a certain set of chords have produced the most number 1's in the music charts. He literally should have been studied by psychologists. haha

I think he means that the human ear can only hear a certain range of frequency (like there are only so many notes on a piano.) But people tend to associate new experiences (including noises) with what they already know. The average number of associations is probably 5. But of course, Karl simplifies this to "Every noise has been used 5 times."
@Wagoo2 жыл бұрын
@@AutomaticDuck300 frequency is just pitch, the waveforms are what distinguish different noises. You can have a woodpecker and a ford escort engine tuned to the same pitch and they will sound different for obvious reasons

She asks him a question he doesn't hear because he's still half-asleep, and he mumbles "mmmm ba... be" and his mom drops a plate in terror "w-wh-who's Mrs. Battersby??" What I think Carl meant around 22:00, is that there are only so many pitches within frequencies, in durations, that can be heard by human, or other earthly creatures’ abilities to pick up on certain sound vibrations. Exactly like frequencies that change to other frequencies of sound that can be perceived. There are only so many that can exist, and every noise in the spectrum of sound, which is vibrations of energy spread throughout the air that our ears can receive and transcribe as “sound.” Every possible pitch or frequency has likely already existed in some form or another throughout the billions or trillions of years of bang to evolution. Every possible sound combination, frequency, pitch, and noise has been occurring since everything’s existence. I’m with you Carl. I’m also high.

"have we created every colour?" - probably. you have three types of cone in our eye that respond to packets of light differently. if you have a red wavelength photon (packet of light) then the cone that responds to red will activate. some overlap. There are colours that don't "exist" in that they aren't one photon, like Magenta. Magenta is a mix of red and blue. But if you get a perfect ratio of red and blue photons hitting the same area of cones your brain will see that as Magenta. With that in mind the only possible colours are mixtures of photons within the visible light spectrum - about 400 to 700 nanometres. There aren't actually infinitely many of these because energy levels are "quantised" aka there is minimum energy bump between wavelengths, so there are a finite number of wavelengths. What is almost infinite is how all those colours come together, like you could artifically make a strand of laser pulses that make one really specific mix of wavelengths that you probably haven't seen before. However, it would be so so close to something you had seen before that it's a meaningless distinction, every colour you have ever seen in nature can be reasonably well represented on an OLED tv's colour gamut except for its brightness. There are no new colours that haven't been discovered, just new extremely precise energy levels that you wouldn't be able to distinguish. however there's infinitely many ultra high wavelength radio waves that we've never fired if you count that HOWEVER the thing karl says about sound is nonsense, because a "sound" is a lot more than just a colour, it's a sustained stream of phonons (packets of vibration) for potentially several seconds. Like in light we have produced every wavelength to a reasonable resolution, we have also produced every frequency of sound except the infinitely many sounds outside the hearing spectrum. However, saying "made every sound before" is like saying "drawn every picture before". On a 12 bit 4k tv you could have an unfathomably large numbers of pictures. There are ~8.3 million pixels on one screen, and each one can show at least ~69 billion colours. That means on one screen there are 2*10^181816029 different pictures you can show. To put that in perspective, there are only 10^82 atoms in the visible universe. so there are 2*10^181815947 times as many combinations one screen can show than there are atoms in the known universe. And that's only for one split second. Then if you want to know how many different 2 second videos can be shown, raise that number to the power of 120. So 1.4*10^21817923516 different two second videos. Sounds are similar to a video, except we could talk about a sound to a resolution of planck time. There is an absolutely unfathomably large number of possible sounds, there is no way you could show them all any more than you could paint every possible picture.

Karl gets in to the role play instantly 😂 he’s been told it’s snowing, and a bit icy, and he’s instantly in the mind set of setting off early because he had to put the heating on in the car 😂😂 Honestly if this was scripted it could never have been as good. The fact the Ricky ‘phones’ him again so soon after the first call off from ‘Sheila’, by the time ‘Bob’ phones him he’s absolutely furious. Didn’t even let Bob finish his excuse 😂 The fact that Bob explains that he’s seen Sheila trying so hard to get her car out the drive makes the full thing 😂 He’s so worked up that he’s adamant the two of them will talk about him for the rest of the day. “So go round to Sheila’s and slag me off” 😂 A hypothetical situation in a studio in England in 2002 😂😂
