What they *always* fail to mention when it comes to 'the cost of the royal family' - even in UK newspapers - is that it all comes from the Crown Estate's profits which are paid into the treasury in full and then 15% of it given back to the reigning monarch who then (at least in the case of Queen Elizabeth II and probably in the case of King Charles III) voluntarily pays income tax on it (on top of 85% of all the profits from the Crown Estate going into the tax pot). As for British scientists, there's Stephen Hawking, Sir Francis Bacon ("the father of the scientific method"), Tim Burners-Lee (the guy who invented the World Wide Web), Charles Darwin, Brian Cox, Henry Cavendish (discoverer of hydrogen), Alan Turing (the "father of modern computer science and artificial intelligence"), Sir Isaac Newton, Sir Alec Jeffreys (developed various DNA tests - he's basically the reason crimes get solved with any degree of accuracy at all), Dame Jane Goodall (of "Gorillas in the Mist" fame), Sir Humphry Davy (discovered several elements, invented the Davy lamp and the arc lamp, and created the field of electrochemistry), Countess Ada Lovelace ("the first computer programmer"), Edward Jenner (made the first vaccine), Sir Alexander Fleming (discovered penicillin), Michael Faraday (tonnes of stuff in electromagnetism), James Clark Maxwell - arguably as important in physics as Newton and Einstein, and Thomas Young ("The Last Man Who Knew Everything" a polymath who established the wave theory of light that Einstein later proved, basically worked out how the human eye works, developed the rule of thumb still used today for determining child doses of medicines, a method for tuning musical instruments, and was instrumental in deciphering the Rosetta Stone and thus translating Egyptian hieroglyphs).

It's wrong to compare the monarchy to the US presidency. We've split the ceremonial stuff from the political stuff, so the monarch as head of state doesn't actually have any political power. The prime minister, who is basically the political equivalent to the president, is not revered in the same way as the monarch or president. We like it this way. If we stop liking it, we'll change it. You have more of a problem!

In electricity, it goes watts < (1,000 watts) kilowatts < (1,000 kilowatts) megawatts < (1,000 megawatts) gigawatts < (1,000 megawatts) terawatts. A terawatt is 1 trillion watts total. An average house runs on about 3 kilowatts per day according to some research. With that maths, that offshore windfarm can power roughly 865,000 homes of electricity all year.

You got your -illions confused. 1TW = 1000 GW 1 GW = 1000 MW 1 MW = 1000 kW 1 kW = 1000 W = the amount of power needed to raise the temperature of 1 litre of water by 1°C in 1 second. So 1TW is a US billion kilowatts. 1 L = 1.75 pints approx, or a quart 1 L= 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm 10 cm ≈ 4 inches

About the Head of State thing, a lot of Americans that reacts to this video misunderstood the Head of State. The US President is both the country's Head of State and Head of the Government, The Queen, however, is only a Head of State and the Prime Minister being the Head of the Government. Even though if you include the cost of the British Prime Minister to the cost of the Royal Family at that same year of Barack Obama, I'm 1000% sure that it's still less than Barack Obama which is actually not that surprising for us non--Americans since we know that the US don't care on how much money they spent in anything

Thank you for not doing what most people do with the per capita stats and say "but the US writes more books and scientific papers because we have more people" some people just don't understand the per capita use. for those who don't know, per capita show the productivity of a nation. For example if we have a group of 30 people and they write 30 books in a year and a group of 10 people and they write 20 books per year who is more productive? The group of 10. yes the group of 30 write more books in a year overall but only 1 per person but the group of 10 write 2 books each a year making them more productive. This metric shows that if the group of 10 had the same amount of people then they would write 60 books a year, out doing the original group of 30 thus making them more productive.
