The bank information that we give to others is no different to the information that is found on cheques. Just because you know someone's bank details does not give access to their account. If you are setting up online payments using a debit/credit card, you give your card number. Again, this does not allow someone to access the account. To do so, you would need other information that is not given out. I love the way they say there is no selection, then start a list of aisles where you would find a wide selection! 😏 Here we go for quality over selection. A friend visited me from Spain. We went to the supermarket and he was amazed by the selection that we had. One sticks in my mind, and that was apples. He told me that he was used to Green, Red, and Cooking. The store we were in apparently had 15 different varieties, which I'd not noticed because I took it for granted. As for cereal, I just went online and checked the store where I get my groceries. I gave up counting when I reached 50 different varieties (I did not count own brand unless they were different to branded). How many types of breakfast cereal do they want? As for "Are you alright?", it is spelt "Yorlrite?" 😆

What these two have stated is BS! Eggs shouldn't go in the fridge and are not bleached as they are in America! It irritates me when Yanks say they find it odd when we say alright as it's like asking if they're ok well that's exactly what 'What's up' means to us but we don't bang on about it! As for variety - not sure where they are but it certainly isn't in the UK! There is a lot of variety in the supermarkets. In fact so many Americans I've spoken to or heard talking about things that they are shocked by the amount of variety in the shops! Bank accounts aren't always given. The long number on cards isn't given with account numbers. We have a lot of security on accounts including voice recognition etc, and long lists of checks we make also. We don't just hand over personal information. Egg nog is revolting that's why we don't have it. We do have Advocaat which is similar but not the same. It is equally revolting however! We only have the pound, just there is a Scottish printed one which looks different but is legal tender in the whole of the UK as it is the pound sterling just a different picture and or colour but still has the Royal emblem on it we filter our own coffee at home and you can buy filtered coffee in shops. All that these two said is rubbish! They are typical Yanks taking the piss! People we really couldn't care less about their staying or going home! No one appreciates Yanks telling that we don't speak English correctly because it's not how they say things and assume we don't get confused or annoyed when they say things which aren't correct. Particularly when they infer that we have it wrong! They appear personable and jolly but come across to me as rude and smug! They're quite disingenuous actually!

If you give bank details like account number Sort code it's for paying into ,and you use this too transferbetween friends instantly so if i was too put monies into my daughter's account using phone app it will be there in around 1 minute, we have plenty of food options but because we don't fill the food full of chemicals it has a limited shelf life , so we don't over stock the shelves with unnecessary options as it would generate too much waste.

Eggnog is called Advocaat (advo car) over here and its made in the Netherlands by a company called Wernicks. (Vernicks) It is probably a little different in taste to yours in America, but I think its lovely. My dad used to make us a 'Snowball' every Christmas by adding a hefty amount of lemonade to a half measure of Advocaat in a tall glass. Best of all he would add a candied cherry on a cocktail stick to 'decorate' our very own grown-up drink. Eyes as round as gob-stoppers, we felt very grown up too. Many years later I now make the 'Snowballs' (with a full measure of Advocaat) and, each time I do, I remember those Christmases with my dad.

This couple thought they were so funny when they created their original video a couple of years ago, laughing away at how stupid they thought the UK was for not having the same egg nog that he was used to in America, and not storing eggs in the chilled section of the supermarket, for asking him for his bank account details before he could be paid anything, and for having, as they stupidly thought, multiple currencies. Then a week later they had to issue an apology in a second video as every single commenter on the original video told them how they were mistaken, and how the picture of the supposed "different currencies" actually included a photo of an Irish punt, nothing to do with the UK (and actually nothing to do with Ireland since they adopted the Euro in 2002). They then declared that they had made the video for their friends back in the US, not for people in the UK, and were surprised that people in the UK had even seen the video, never mind been insulted by all the lies that they told. Needless to say they didn't remain in the UK much longer, they had only come over because his church had sent him over as some kind of weird missionary. His screeching, giggling wife was no better.

Yes the bank details requirement is used to help prove identity and was also originally brought in to make money laundering more difficult! We do have something called the Direct Debit Guarantee though which means if someone does use your bank details for unlawful purposes to set up a direct Debit then the bank will refund you! British credit and debit cards also have a unique 3 digit security code and you dont tell people that, you just enter it into the payment machine or into a security box online and money cant come out unless you have that 3 digit pin!

We have the same Pound Sterling throughout the UK but minted by different banks. The bank of England mints the English coins and prints the English notes and the Bank of Scotland does theirs but they are the same currencies. Northern Ireland has their own too.

I do agree with the variety thing, for my local supermarket the range of available veg has reduced, no longer can I buy chicory or celeric etc, the range is veg basic, same with fish, rarely do you see sole, skate, scallops or squid. compared with Southern Europe it is very limited. This is i suspect down to lack of demand rather than anything else. thank god for out fishmonger down in the harbour and farmers market. i guess if i went to the largest supermarkets it might be a bit different and Morrisons and Waitrose are better.

@TheDoctorFlay4 күн бұрын
When you give someone your bank details it is only enough to allow them to know which branch and account to credit money into. Like knowing your house number and street name. To take money from my bank account needs more info than the 2 sets of numbers on the front of a bank card. It needs the extra number from the back of the card. As long as you don't give that to someone, everything is fine.

The different currencies they mention are still called pounds and worth the same value. It is just the design just differs for the different parts of the UK. This can also bee seen on the coins. Similar to each Country that uses Euros has their own local designs, but you can spend them anywhere that accepts Euros.

The choice of ID to prove who you are, is based on not being something easy to steal that people carry often. Handing over a random credit card only proves nobody has caught you yet.

What complete rubbish. Those two need their eyes testing. As for Currency, it’s pounds, in both England, wales and Scotland. However, technically the Scottish bank notes are printed by one of three Scottish banks. However, these are technically and legally not legal tender as they are not issued by the Bank of England, but to make things worse, no bank note in Scotland is technically legal tender, so that means even English notes aren’t legal tender. Ireland uses the Euro.
