@@IWrocker This 49 Suzuki was sold in the US as Geo Metro. I recall in the early 1990s GM tried hard to push it on TV, and it didn't quite work out. The price, IIRC, was one or two grand above the bottom level set by Chevy Cavalier and Mexican VWs, so it didn't sell much. But it was certainly present on the road then and it felt just like another American small car.

The Zastava was a local car maker (when Slovenia was part of a bigger country - Yugoslavia) that produced small Fiat models that they acquired the license on. These were not carbon copies form fiat, they kept changing some things. Later on they made their own model, Yugo, and this one you obviously know :)

My late uncle brought home a fiat 126 (bolha) for me, when i was 7 years old and i drove that car on a big field that was behind our house. It was orange and it had a giant redbull sticker all over the front hood. I had it for about 2 years. And when i was about 13 he bought me a Renault 4 gtl. He then later converted it into an lift mechanism, so he could lift building materials into the 3 floor, when he was building his apartment 🙂

@Stuntmannetje I KNEW it! I saw that, and I said, "Looks like a Geo Metro to me." Biggest POS car to ever come out of the early 90s market. When i got my first car at age 16, it was an '89 Ford Mustang LX 4 cyl. 2.3L. (Foxbody) Only made about 92 hp. Terribly underpowered. It was all it could do to hit 80 mph. Only registered 85 mph on the Speedometer. And it was a mechanical nightmare. The whole car. Every little thing that could go wrong did, from power window/lock switches all the way up to power train parts. I had the car for 5½ years and I bet it was in the shop for about a year total. My current vehicle is a 2016 F150 w/ 3.5 L Ecoboost (twin turbo) that makes 365 hp and 420 lb ft of Torque. Unfortunately I haven't been able to drive it for about 3 years due to health reasons and it's only got 14K miles on it. In order for me to be able to get back in tbe thing reliably, I'm gonna have to install lowering airbag ride suspension on it at who knows what price.

Regarding the engine hood opening direction: The "reverse" way is "safe" if the lock should not close properly - the hood can then not errratically block the driver's view when it should flip up and also the additional drag would be quite dangerous. Also, it allows a 90° opening angle for better access instead of just 45 or so.
@HalNordmann
@HalNordmann 3 ай бұрын
But on the other hand, it complicates access - you have to lean over the bumpers to reach the engine. Always a tradeoff

9:35 those seem to be Ford Escort RS Cosworth Mk.5, or at least well made lookalikes. Fun tidbit: The undercarriage is actually a modifies Ford Sierra Cosworth. Ford did that to be able to keep the bigger engine and gearbox without having to implement it in the Escort production line. Also, they differ in the production cycle. The first 2500 units had a beastly Garrett charger on it (to have that for the WRC models). After that, Ford tried to tame it down a little.

Hello, sir. You definitely need to watch Wörthersee Treffen Meetings in Austria. It started with VW Golf GTi first generation, but it was built in something really beautiful. Basically the biggest freestyle car meet around the whole Wörthersee lake. It's a shame they banned it, because it was not an official car meet, so there were troubles with law, car accidents sometimes and a lot of noise and traffic, so they banned it. But it was an awesome place to visit. Nature, beautiful hills, lakes, summer sun and extraordinarily perfected cars. Just awesome. Hello from Czech Republic, sir!

Yeah, that wasn't ever a car meet, it's actually like group of friends with everyone inviting own group of friends for a nice day... Wasn't even a proper meet, just a small gathering in a small place, also very local, mostly from the small towns around that region, towns with mostly like 1500 - 2000 ppl and few with sth around 10k ppl... I know we're a tiny country, but that's small even by our standards :) It's like something we used to call "small FB group meeting" :) But it's nice anyway, mostly same minded people with a lot of knowledge and interesting stories, but limited resources... Ppl like my neighbour with multiple lambos and porsches, and the other that's in first house to my right with 2 ferraris between everythign else, don't come to those meetings for a reason like that last dude went on car meeting with S8 and FF and came home with LFA and LC500h :DD It's a different game

The biggest car meet outside the USA was the Power Big Meet in Västerås in Sweden. It was so big that even Americans brought their cars to Sweden. Each year around 11,000 cars and over 100,000 visitors came. This car meeting was mainly for American cars from the 1930s until the 2000s. There were original cars, Hot Rods, Street Rods, Low Riders, Custom. Muscle cars, Street Race cars. There were cars from Finland, Norway, Denmark, England, France, Switzerland, USA, Italy; Spain, Poland, Bulgaria, and many more countries as well as visitors from all over the world. What separates Swedish car meets from car meets in other countries is that, in addition to Sweden having larger meets, there are also meets for the whole family, you have activities for children too, you have sales of car parts, food, sales of clothes from 30- century up to the 50s, collects things that are from the 30s and up to the 50s. Everything connected to America's 50s. Today this car meeting is not as big, as the car magazine Power Magazine chose to move the meeting. Despite this, there are such car meetings every summer in Sweden, from Haparanda in northern Sweden to Malmö in southern Sweden.

The Zastava 850 was the final development of a licence made FIAT 600, first was Zastava 600, then 750 and, at last, 850, same as SEAT 600, a licence made FIAT 600 in Spain. At the time in Jugoslavia some people used to change its engine with a bigger one, I believe around 1000cc, that was too big to stay in the bay, maybe the second Zastava 850, the red one, could be one of them, as it has the engine hatch slightly opened. I remember those cars in my town, Trieste in Italy, that was the "market" for the Jugoslavians, between the '70s and the '80s, they used to cross the border, buy a lot of stuff hard to find at "the other side", like blue jeans and good coffee, and come back to trade the goods through the iron curtain.

4:12 that is a Suzuki Swift, marketed in the US as the Chevy Sprint and Pontiac Firefly. You only have fun in old Porsche 911's if you enjoy ditches, they were great in a straight line but they were so tail heavy that in corners they would go ass first off the road if you pushed them.

The Juke was designed over here, specifically in Nissan's European design department in London, based on the old 2002 Nissan Micra platorm shared with Renault. Though, in truth a LOT of cars use that generation of Micra as a base, from Nissans, Renaults, Datsuns and Dacias to Ladas, Chevrolets, Mahindras and a Venucia.

The Renault Clio Williams, (at 4:32), was developed to celebrate the Williams-Renault F1 team winning both driver's and constructor's championship in 1992 creating a wickedly quick 'Hot Hatch'. A little car weighing 2000lbs with a tuned 2 litre engine, 150bhp, 129ftlb at lower revs, a 0 to 60 time of 7.5 seconds and topping out at 134mph. The bulge is off set as it's a transverse, front wheel drive layout. I think the Honda at 8:00 is an Accord Type R. They were less common than the Civic Type R but they were just as quick. The Blue Fords at 9:45 are Escort RS Cosworth probably with slightly different body kits fitted. They always get peoples attention. You need to check out it's bigger brother the Sierra Cosworth RS500.

In Spain it was SEAT who got the license branding it Seat 600. It is the most important car in spanish history as it brought an affordable car to an expanding economy in 1960!s. This was the one that helped swap from carts to automobiles massively.

The first car with the number 49 is a Susuki Swift mk2 1.3 GTi . 9:53 those are two Escort RS Cosworth another insane Rally car from the 90's . @ 4:36 those are not the only original Williams wheels , there's another ones from Speedline that came in the Clio Williams mk1 phase 2 if I am not mistake, and those ones the spokes don't come out so much and at the end of the spokes they don't have that bend , and not so squared . Those ones are more pretier IMO . The Clio Williams had a 2 liter 16 valves inline 4 and was used a lot in rally here in Europe . But if you want to look for a Clio that was an authentic beast in rally search for Renault Clio 3.0 V6 - 24Valves , a 2 seats Mid-engine RWD that weight 1335 kg / 2943 lbs.

Probably is the Cupra version 2.0TSI with 290HP, I owned a years ago one special unit of the Station Wagon version called “Black carbon edition” with 300HP, 4WD, brembo brake system…a kind of missile 🤣🤣

As someone before me mentioned, it was not uncommon in Europe in the 60s, 70s and 80s for the hood to open towards the front. This was absolutely normal with my old BMWs and also with most Renaults, for example. Not so much with VW and Ford. Not with GM's prey Opel either, but definitely with some older Mercedes Benz. Opening to the front almost only had advantages. In the event of a malfunction, the flap cannot open in the direction of travel and you can work much better in the engine compartment. Take a look at pictures of the engine compartment of a BMW E30 (2nd edition of the 3 series) and, in comparison, look at an Audi 80 GTE 1984 (comparable engine performance and equipment segment of the mid-range car). And there is one more thing to consider... With the flap forward, significantly more light falls into the engine compartment, which in turn makes working easier...

The Lancia Delta integrale is not an Evo. The Evo was a later model, with 16v engine, 4 same-size front lamps, bigger arches, sportier Recaro seats with an integrated headrest and 2 extra air intakes on the bonnet (among other stuff). The red one on the film is probably a 8v integrale ( I used to own a yellow 8v integrale), though it is sporting Evo rims.

Layout of a fwd front engine car willbe asymmetrical as the gearbox is on oneside, the engine on the other. So a hood scoop will be as well in most cases (if it really is functional). It is a bit diff from those centrally mounted engines. And you may be surprised, but Europe aint like the US, I am Dutch and Slovenia is just as foreign to me 😂. Good idea for my next roadtrip maybe. Anywho, great vids man!

@IWrocker The reason you don't recognise the Honda Accord (6th gen) body is, they used a different body for the Honda Accords in the US. It was actually the Honda Inspire what got rebadged as Accord for US, Australia and NZ market. The European and the JDM version were basically identical. The same was with the 5th gen, the US got the body shape of the Rover 600 were here in Europe we got again the JDM version.
