Eurovision has been on Australian tv since the early eighties and is very popular over there. That's why in 2015 they were invited to actually join in. Love your eurovision reactions 😄

Australia were invited to take part in our contest as guests in 2015 to celebrate the 60th year anniversary and because they have been broadcasting it since the 1980s and there is a huge fan base over there but because they were so good, they were given a contract which ran out this year (although we later found out that there were never guests and they already signed a contract in 2015 and they are defo going to stay) In terms of the semi final. In 2004 a semi final was introduced to allow more countries to take part and in 2008 2 semi finals were introduced because again of the number of countries taking part so everyone (apart from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the previous years winner who gets an automatic place in the final due to us paying for the contest) has to qualify from the semi final to make it to the final. If you see on the bottom right the semi final position. You have to make the top 10 in the semi final to make the final.

Thanks for breaking it down 😀

Although quite a few contestants do compete multiple times, like you said, it can be unusual. However, as the 2020 contest was cancelled, you'll notice that a lot of countries decided to let the same artist compete again, as they didn't get the chance to previously.

That makes sense.

Isaiah Firebrace (2017) was only 17 when he competed. Beautiful voice but nerves nearly took him out, he was so young.

Because so many countries compete in Eurovision, there is semi finals and Failed to qualify" means that they didn't advance from the semi finals to the grand final! :)

Thanks for clarifying 👍I just filmed one on Ireland and was shocked by all the failed to qualifies. This explains it.

@@bigkevreacts Also worth noting that the year we failed to qualify we couldn't actually send our act due to Covid still being a thing. Our acts are always better live than in just the clips.

It was supposed they were invited until 2023, but we don't know yet if they are going to be back from 2024 and on. I hope they are, because they take the contest very serioslusly.

I'm sure they'll renew the deal.

Israel told during results in 2017 that they won't participate, but they won 2018

Eurovision Song Contest is not a European song contest. It is the contest for those countries what are members of The European Broadcasting Union/ EBU. Also Israel, Russia, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Morocco have participated competition. I hope Turkey comes back soon they brought color and good music.

Isaiah who represented Australia in 2017 got so much bullying due to a vocal mishap in the semi final. He didn’t deserve any of it and he did wonderfully in the Final.

Countries don't participate in Eurovision, tv networks do, Australian channel is part of European network
