The Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an annual event held on the Spring Bank Holiday at Cooper's Hill, near Gloucester in England. Participants race down the 200-yard-long hill after a round of Double Gloucester cheese is sent rolling down it. The event was traditionally held by and for the people who live in the local village of Brockworth, but now people from all over the world take part. with winners coming from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Nepal. The first written evidence of cheese rolling is found from a message written to the Gloucester town crier in 1826

I've just been explaining this to some mystified Americans on an aviation channel. I have been to see that hill, about 30 miles from me, not for the event though. The videos don't do it justice, it's a lot steeper than it looks on footage! After many injuries, some serious, it was banned due to health & safety concerns as an organised event, but revived unofficially by locals recently. The only concession to injury concerns is burly lads from local rugby sides acting as 'catchers' at the bottom of the hill. Then also locally, we have the "The Cotswold Olimpicks" featuring shin-kicking. You must have gander at that! :)

If you haven't already you need to check out the "Shin-kicking" Shin-kicking, also known as shin diggings or purring, is a combat sport that involves two contestants attempting to kick each other on the shin in order to force their opponent to the ground. It has been described as an English martial art. It originated in England in the early 17th century, and was one of the most popular events at the Cotswold Olimpick Games until the Games ended in the 1850s. It also became a popular pastime among Cornish miners. In the 20th century the sport was also practised by British immigrants to the United States. It was included in the 1951 revival of the Cotswold Olimpick Games, and remains one of its most popular events, run as the World Shin-kicking Championships. The event now draws crowds of thousands of spectators.

I used to live about a mile away from here in the same place Simon Pegg comes from, Brockworth. It's a big event. You can tell when it's on because of the ambulances going to and fro' to Gloucester. The St John's volunteers are kept pretty busy. Broken bones, sprains and concussion are common. There's a lot of kudos in getting a cheese round, they're worth a couple of hundred quid each. The people of Gloucestershire are into pain, they also hold the world shin kicking championships. A side note; your sound levels are so bass heavy and compressed it makes it seem like you've dubbed all of your vids, maybe try turning down the bass for a more natural, less fake sound? I know you're trying to create 'warmth', but there's other ways.

@@LADYRAEUK Hey Amanda, here's a link to a site that may help. I think the solution you need is a microphone screen; rangeofsounds.com/blog/how-to-reduce-room-echo-for-recording/ Here's a more radical solution; get some moving blankets, you know the kind, the thick felt ones. Hang them around and above you on a portable frame. Take a HD photo of your room from the camera position, then have a green screen behind you and it'll look like you're still sitting in your room. A bit of a faff but guaranteed. I figure hubby and you can knock up some kind of hanging frame together. Hope this helps, keep it up.

Why do we do this cheese rolling “competition” over here? ..... simple answer is... because we just CAN...🇬🇧🏴 ‘proud moment - eccentricity worthy’ 😉 research people wearing home made wings in the “International Birdman” competition trying to fly off of piers in Worthing and Bognor Regis. Sadly, I think it’s now cancelled 😖🥺probably all due to some strict H&S rules enforcement - MEH -

@@LADYRAEUK Apparently, it doesn't sting if the stingy bits don't touch the lips, because our spit neutralises the chemical which stings.
