He has OCD. Which back then he channelled into perfecting the free kick. And he did. He was a specialist. He admitted he would just practice them over and over again for hours. Which is why you get what you’re seeing. He was a master at that perfect curve into the net. Truly talented.

David Robert Joseph Beckham OBE born 2 May 1975 is an English former professional footballer, the president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City. Primarily a right winger and known for his range of passing, crossing ability and free-kick taking, Beckham has been hailed as one of the greatest and most recognisable midfielders of his generation, as well as one of the best free-kick takers of all time. He won 19 major trophies in his career, and is the first English player to win league titles in four different countries: England, Spain, the United States and France.

It's not about the circumstances, it's just about the skills.

You'd be amazed in what ways you can manipulate a ball / shot 😮😂 Fortunately he additionally has a proud auntie (me) who is living near Barcelona, so in his fall vacations he will be visiting me and we will watch a FC Barcelona match or at least a free training ⚽ As for David's fame....it didn't do any harm that he's got a handsome face and an athlete's body and he married (and is still married to) a Spice girl.... and when I met him in 2008 he was quite charming 😅

Allow me to answer your question. Why is football not popular in the US: 1- football cannot be monetized. Aside from half-time there are no breaks. 2- Americans like to be the best at everything, so when you find something in which you cannot excel, you label it as insignificant or dull or the more common "not manly" instead of improving. You create a sport that only you play and call yourselves World Champions. 3- low scoring is also a big no no for americans. You prefer big numbers at the end of a stupid game than a 1-0 at the end of a tense quality game (1 touchdown is worth 7 points..... why???) 4- you find football to be slow paced but the truth is, both teams are always 30 seconds away from scoring at all times, which is the reason why you might see teams passing 50 times before a goal. They create openings and opportunities. Apologies for using harsh terminology but this is the truth.

manchester united in the 90s was lightning in a bottle. beckham on the right, giggs on the left, scholes and keane in the middle, nevilles at the back, york and cole up front. the combination was much greater than the sum of the parts. and solskjaer, the super sub! and schmiechel in goal! it was like a 12th player on the pitch

As far as memory serves Beckham was the first proffesional to do the "over-halfway" goal in that way. Beckham was an ace player but was, in my opinion, known for sheer accuracy even at speed ie running. His ability to judge where the receivers foot will be when the ball arrived was unreal. I think one of the main reasons it isn't popular over there is the way the matches are structured. It seems on american tv that you have advertisements every 5 minutes or so. 2 halves of 45 minutes each and the whatever extra time needed. Nowhere in there really for the companies to make money.
@elsalcombe18 күн бұрын

Not to send you down the football rabbit hole but I think you would really like to see the 10 best goals by Ryan Giggs. Beckham was a free-kick specialist. He actually played mid-field rather than striker, as a mid fielder he would pick out good tactical passes and get the ball upfield. He could land a ball at your feet from half a pitch away his accuracy was so good. He had great vision too, he created so many goal scoring opportunities for team mates by seeing an opening in the defence they can charge in to and placing the ball right where it needs to be for them to receive during the sprint.

If you want to see true magnificence from Bex, try and find the England -v- Greece game from the European championships, can’t remember the year but someone reading this will know, he literally played that entire game on his own. Also you’ll note the different hairstyles, he was famous for changing hairstyles for particular campaigns. He can shoot like that because every training day, he would practice shooting for hours on end whilst all the others had showered and gone home! From allover the field, different distances from the goal mouth, he’d use props in the pitch to cause obstructions so that he’d have to angle his kicks to get round the obstructions. There hasn’t been another since like him although some of the young players in the current England squad are pretty good in different ways. The Bend it like Beckham reference you’re half recognising is a film that was based on him.

David Beckham end up playing for LA Galaxy and is married to "Posh Spice" so that's most probably why you have heard of him. He now is one of the co-owners of Inter Miami Soccer team. The other thing to bear in mind is that because he dated and then married a member of Spice Girls while they were at height of their fame he has been in limelight for he life on and off the pitch, which he has used to effectively create the brand "Beckham". Also, it might be just my perception but he was the first personality I can remember that started getting huge tattoos after which that trend took off as something that became fashionable to do.
