exactly my thoughts, there are incredible beaches all over Andalucía, Cádiz, for example, so many and so amazing! all along its coast, whether Atlantic or Mediterranean. Also in northern Spain like Galicia or Asturias, Costa Brava, Menorca, Ibiza, Canary Islands that despite of being geographically separated, it is Spain, etc...Nothing against Marbella which is very nice but those would be the ones to choose from Spain? And what happened to other countries like Croatia, Bulgaria or northern Europe like Denmark, Germany or Poland (much colder but they still have their good season and are gorgeous, and not everybody likes warmer weather).

I'm from Turkey and lived in a coastal city with a lot of beaches. I've been to Ölüdeniz and a lot of beaches on Greece and Italy as well. All I can say is that for me the best beach is the one not many people know. There are many good beaches especially in Turkey and Greece, I especially like the ones on the Greek islands a lot. So it really comes down to how full the beach is. In my opinion it is much better to have a beach to your own or maybe a few groups. Especially in crowded beaches I don't really feel safe. Also course beeches are the best! Fine sand sticks everywhere; to your feet, to your bag. The sand could be in your bag even in the winter. It needs a very good cleaning afterwards to get all of them out. With course beaches the little pebbles just fall off with little work and everything stays clean. Also I feel it is easier to walk on pebbles, on fine sand it is more difficult to walk because every step will sink to the sand. Course beaches are simply better :)

Man, when I went to europe with my husband I hella enjoyed the beaches. I’m a US citizen now and been living here for a while. I come from a tropical country filled with beaches but lived in the city so I was never a beach girl. European beaches changed my perspective of beaches (and probably exposure to horrid North East weather in the US). Greece and Spain took my breath away with the beaches. The Aegean Sea stole my heart and took all my worries with him it was just peaceful and calming. I want to go back so bad ❤❤❤❤

I've been to many Greek beaches, Islands and mainland, but the Voidokilia beach (Omega beach) was one of the nicest. I was swimming to the centre of it, realised I could stand and walk to the middle. I have a Greek wife, so I get to see a lot of beaches. My favorite is a beach on Patmos island, on the western tip of the southern peninsula. You have to walk 2km on a small goatpath to reach it. Or hire a boat. It's a punishing walk, with all the beach stuff , but rewarding.

I was on corfu and specially in Sidari in 2013 and the nature is really heavenly. Old forests of giant olive trees and the ionic sea is so clear and calm and shallow like a bathtub. Perfect for families with little kids or people who are usually a bit afraid of the sea. The main city Kerkyra is absolutely breath taking with a huge old city center with old churches, narrow streets and so much beautiful things to see. I will surely go back there.

A funny thing, a Colombian old friend once stayed in Greece, Athens and told me "today we went to the ocean for swimming". I litterally tried hard to get what he meant...because we say "sea", as all Mediterean countries have seas and not ocean. I suppose that's the reason why we have a huge variety of beach forms. Soft punder sand, smooth but bigger sand, soil like sand, dry sand, tiyn-small pebbles, small pebbles, pebbles like small rocks, rocks (only), big rocks, beaches with volcano rocks, rock plates etc... So we have come with preferences of what each one like. Some dont like sand some dont like pebbles, othes like plates or even edgy rock-cliffs... When you havve options...you obtain peculiarities.

Pebble beaches have clear water. You see the bottom and animals. And the water is blue or turquoise. With sandy beaches the water usually is dusty - you can't see anything. Looks dirty. Just take something to comfortably lie or sit on because rocks or concrete aren't very comfy. 😅

Travel along east along the coast for about 3 hours and try the Cabo de Gata, in the Almeria region.....There you're gonna find some stunning coves and beaches that aren't packed and are WAY more stunning. Also Sidari in Corfu, IS stunning!

Ah... Every once in a while I have to tell myself I'm so SO fortunate to live in the Mediterranean... more specifically, on the northeast coast of Spain called Costa Brava! Many here take what we have for granted when thousands come here on holidays. EDIT: 2:43 Ok, you wouldn't like Costa Brava, lots of rock beaches here lol. EDIT2: 3:44 OMG last September I went on holiday to Corfu! Was there on that seemingly inaccessible beach!! TRULY STUNNING place!! EDIT3: 4:26 pebbles... and full-on ROCKS... it may be uncomfortable to lay on your towel (it's an art form to place the rocks in a somewhat flat way) but the water is extremely clear and if you snorkel the views can be stunning. Also, there's sand and there's pretty sand... some beaches have earth rather than sand and the water is very murky!

Pebble beaches are better because you don't have to constantly clean the pebbles from your skin, they are easy to remove with a shake of your body. Also, when you enter the water and the sea bed is shaken, it does not makes fogginess water from clouds of sand, unlike the fine sand, but stays crystal clear. We have many pebble beaches in Crete, Greece.

Pebble beach advantages according to my experience: Clearer water, when its a bit wavy the sand mixes with water in the shallows making it look cloudy. When its windy no sandblasting your face, kids cant put sand into their eyes, no sandflies, easier cleanup when leaving the beach since nothing sticks to you. There are beaches with very small pebbles that combine the best of both worlds

Regarding pebble beaches : I'd say really small pebbles are the best type of beach. It doesn't absorb as much heat as sand does (good guess there!!!), and it shakes off your feet nicely and cleanly. Big pebbles though are the worst, because you can't walk on them barefoot, they hurt a lot. Sand is good, but it usually extends into the sea as well, and it gives the wated a muddy look as it stirrs.

While many beautiful beaches exist in the Mediterranean, Greece has by far the longest coastline of 16.000 km of the most crystal clear waters and many beaches with waters of blue that is in the end so diverse and so immensely blue, its completely incomparable. No other country in the Mediterranean comes even close to that color and the amount of outrageous beaches. You could name tens of great beaches in most of the countries but then quickly drops off in quality, color, diversity. But in Greece after 1000 beaches the diversity and the colors are still immense. Egremni beach alone with retardedly blue waters with the bluest of blues or Porto Katsiki in Lefkada, or Fteri beach, in Kefalonia or Navagio in Zakynthos, Or Balos Lagoon or Elafonisi in Crete, or Koufounisia, or Voutoumi beach in Anti Paxos, or Sarakiniko or Fyriplaka in Milos, or Ekatopenintari at Skopelos or Orange beach in Halkidiki, or Marble beach in Thassos, the list goes on and on and on and on and on. The coastlines of Greece are not only immensely diverse due to it's incredibly complex geography and topography + consisting of 80% mountains, unlike much of Italy, Spain, Portugal and so on where you will see nothing up till the horizon (for the vast majority of their geographies) because their geography are much more rudimentary and simplistic. Greece has a immensely complex and indented mainland full with mountains, and then 6000 islands all around. What this means is that not only are Greece's coastlines bizarly diverse due to it's environmental factors, but ALSO it's views up to the horizons are filled with a kaleidoscope of layers of other parts of the mainland, mountains, and islands all around. This makes sunsets and so on also incredibly rewarding. Always offering stunning views. The only country that also does have islands is Croatia with 1000 or so islands. However. 90% of the islands of Croatia are between 80 and 300 meters, with the average around 100-150, while Greece is mountain galore all around and even many medium sized islands having mountains of 1000 meters, 1500 meters, 2500 meters. It makes scenery just very impressive. That is why Greece has 20% of all of Europes Ultra peak mountains in it's geography (real physical height of a mountain) consisting of 19 Ultra peak mountains. In comparison, Croatia has 0, Spain has 4 on mainland, Switzerland has 8, Austria has 12. Also Croatia is famous for having almost no sand beaches

Islands in the Atlantic at the North and the South, Islands in the Mediterranean, cliffs as in Ireland, and England in the Cantabrian, fjords as in Norway in Galicia, tropical Islands, beaches close to Vulcanos, Bays, Capes, beaches in Deserts, beaches in Forests, beaches in Green Hills.... This is of course only a tiny selection. And Europe has beaches not only in the Mediterranean but also in the Black Sea, North Sea and Baltic Sea (also in the north the summers are warm and you can go swimming). If you want beaches in remote places, then I recommend islands: • Majorca • Ibiza • Canaries • Dozens of Greek islands e.g. Crete • Sylt • Bornholm • Oland If it's supposed to be beaches in a city, then I recommend • Valencia • Cagliari • Varna • Malmo One should not underestimate Croatia either. I don't know any beach there off the top of my head now, the coast is rocky. But the underwater life there is impressive. The water is still and crystal clear. Already 1 meter under water you can see fish, octopuses….. A simple pair of diving goggles will suffice. No further diving equipment necessary.

Sure, northern-ish climate (57N) has it's limiations to ability warm up water enough, but most years there is good month of enjoyable (at least 20-21 C / 68-70 F).
