I remember there being a history lesson in primary school. My teacher asked us a question and everyone in the class raised their hand to answer. They then said, "put your hand down if you learnt this from horrible histories." Literally, everyone put their hand down lol. That was how popular this show was. It beat out actual real comedy shows that were made for adults as well in an award show once. It was crazy good! I still rewatch episodes to this day as an adult.

As an American high school student and history nerd, I came across clips of this show here on KZbin late in 9th grade (which was in 2015). I introduced a couple to my world history teacher that year on the last day of school because nothing really ever happened lesson-wise on the last day. A few months later, I walked by her classroom while on my way to the bathroom and saw her showing one of the same clips to her class. Also, there was the time at the start of my final year of high school, that since 12th grade English class in my area of the US is all about British literature, we had to attempt to list the eras of British literature study in order on the first day of school before the teacher told us. The first thing I wrote down was Anglo-Saxon, as I had seen the Saxon Report clip by this point. That impressed my teacher and I'm pretty sure I was the only one that wrote that down in my entire graduating class. That was a fun class; we studied Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, MacBeth, and Gulliver's Travels. Once I found out I could access the full episodes on Hulu, I showed my stepfather, who was a fan of a show called Drunk History at the time, and he loved it. He recommended it to all his friends that liked Drunk History, and I often heard him doing that on the phone.

I love this show! I was an adult when this started but had read some of the books when I was a child. The programme is joyful and funny. Be warned, the songs get stuck in your head! The main 6 actors in this currently have a comedy called Ghosts. I love it and can't wait for series 3 to come out soon. There have been 6 King George's. The first 4 were successive during the 18/19 century. The other two were in the 20th century and were the present Queen's Father and Grandfather. George I's reign saw the emergence of the Prime minster. George II was the last British monarch to go into battle. George III was the one who was ruling when America won independence and George IV was the one who spent a lot of money renovating Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle; He was also regent when Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo and created the Waterloo chamber at Windsor full of portraits of important people in the Napoleonic war. I think you would like that room.

I'm so glad you found these, I think its an indication of the quality of the show that this children's tv show won comedy awards when put in the same category as 'grown up' comedy shows. It might also be worth checking out 'Ghosts' if you can. Its a sitcom featuring the same core cast as horrible histories, its well worth it if you can find it

I thought you'd recognise the Georgian period (1714 - 1837, generally including George IV's brother William IV as well), since it was George III who lost the US. He was also the King in the stage play, "The Madness of King George III," and the film, "The Madness of King George." There's a rather cynical story on this side of the pond that the film was retitled because Americans wouldn't pay to see a film called, "The Madness of King George III," without seeing, "The Madness of King George," I and II, but I take that with a pinch of salt.
@SoGal_YT3 жыл бұрын
The concept of King George is a bit more abstract for us. He's simply the king of another country that harassed us, and that's literally all we know about it. We don't take the time in history to learn about the Georgian Era, or the lives of the kings in much detail, since we didn't really experience that the way the UK did.

@@SoGal_YT At the end of the series you will probably have quite a bit of sympathy for George iii seeing how his doctors treated him. Also this series is incredibly accurate and has only made a few mistakes one of which was in the 4 king George's song where it was George ii who died on the toilet not George I, this was corrected when they did this song again at the proms which you should check out at the end of the 6 series (do not bother with 7 & 8 they are rubbish). Did you know that the word “chatting” derives from British soldiers in the front line in WW1, with a bit of time off watch, getting together and taking their clothes off to hold the seams (where lice liked to live) over a candle to make the lice go “pop” and die? Obviously, these (probably naked) chaps would not remain silent during this process, but have a bit of a natter, too. Hence the word “chatting” transferred to the social intercourse which happened in these groups, rather than the killing of lice, so we can now have a chat without bursting lice over a candle.
