The biggest difference is the level of firearms any individual in the states may be carrying, like a gun. Whereas in the UK, that isn't too common. I'd say the majority of everyday citizens go their entire lives without seeing one in person.

My dad was a UK police officer and he volunteered for training as a firearms officer. He had normal police duties, but could be called upon to carry a firearm when needed. He was rarely needed, and said that he attended more firearms training courses than the times he carried a weapon on duty. He did say that he hated the extra level of responsibility when carrying a pistol or other firearm. But he also said that it was occasionally required, and he felt pride that he was one of the ones qualified. He retired in the 1980s, and since then the frequency of seeing and hearing about police with firearms on the streets has massively increased, but still the majority of police in the UK do not carry firearms.

The biggest difference between the UK and the US is that along with the rest of the industrialised world we have updated and changed our gun laws over the last 200 years to keep our citizens safer. Buying a gun in the UK is a long and complicated process which involves the police interviewing your employer, family and doctor to assess if you are safe to own a firearm. Then there are restrictions on what type of gun you can own, where you can use it, where you store it and for what purpose. You can't walk into Walmart and buy a gun, they are only available at specialized gun shops who will check your licence very thoroughly. So basically no members of the public are allowed to carry firearms in public places. Check this sorry state of affairs out dude and see who's gun laws work the best. Here's some stats on school shootings since 2009:- Canada 2 France 2 Germany 1 Japan 0 Italy 0 UK 0 US 288. I rest my case. ✌️♥️🇬🇧

My grandfather lived in a remote area in Scotland so they didn't have 24/7 police. After the War he became what is known as a 'Special Constable' he had the police hat, truncheon and jacket. If a local say farmer down the road needed him he was on call. Then given the severity of the crime the local nearest police force would be brought in. He was serving a more vast varied community, especially if it snowed and everyone was more or less trapped.

This was back to your best Leo. Many people believe guns areillegal here in the Uk and they are not. The two big differences are 1. There isn't the huge interest in guns here. Yes there are gun clubs etc. for both hunting in certain seasons and sport. 2. To actually get a licence to have a gun is a long process and regulated by the police. There are a lot of hoops to jump through to get one. We already had quite strict gun laws but a shooting at a school in Scotland lead to a huge campain to change laws and vast amouts of weapons were handed in and destroyed. Even a lot of criminals will think twice about taking a firearm to a burglery because if caught their sentance would be 4 x plus what it may have been just for carrying it. Plus they know that the cops dont have them so they dont need it to defend themselves.

Main issue with this is, the UK has much more strict gun laws (hunting rifles are a little different, but handguns and other types are vastly harder to get out there). Plus it’s a much smaller country so just statistically they have less gun violence on top of the stricter laws. In the US as long as you don’t have a felony or some court ordered whatever on you in the system, you can just walk in a store and buy one. Which means the bad guys just have someone buy them one and from there they can steal more or whatever etc etc lol

But as far as hand held weapons, hammer, ax, knife, spear, blunt object, Unfortunately we are a violent species. If you look the highest rates of death around the world in three categories, knives, blunt objects, and bare human hands/fists, and chart it next to the highest rates of violence around the world, all four categories charts will look very similar. Violent irrational people that want to harm others, will use whatever is available to them in their environment to be violent.

Police in the UK's priority is to protect PEOPLE....Police in the U.S. are there to protect PROPERTY. There is a huge difference how each nation views its own citizens.

It’s because the UK’s speech and English…. Just make everyone more calm and cooperative! People here in the US have a more aggressive attitude. You hear a British accent and your heart automatically softens… IMO ❤😂

My two pennies #1 USA - you made it a 'right' (your antiquated 2nd A). UK - gun crime/injuries are lower because guns are not a right. They are a privilege by licence. Majority of instances of gun crime is usually via an illegal (imported or remnants of IRA) firearm. #2 "Policing" - priority should be 'prevention'...that's foot patrol, community 'beat cop' ethos. Too many young police think they're acting out some TV/movie - policing is about community and trust

I live in northern Ireland and the police have guns , also have armoured riot vehicles, but then we did have a lot of riots and terrorist bombings and shootings, it's got a bit boring as of late to be honest, but yay peace time 😅😅

Here in America stricter gun laws have not moved the needle at all. The cities with the strictest gun laws, still have the most gun violence case by case. And just to remind everyone; we fought 2 wars with England to gain the freedoms we have here that the population does not have in England. P.S. Still a monarchy! Absolute power in England could still be a thing.

You want to reduce violent crimes, especially homicide? No restrictions on the 2nd Amendment in any State, you'll see how fast the homicide rate falls. Back in the cowboy days, there was a lot more respect between men, lot more courtesy, because every man was on an equal footing when it came to defending themselves.

You would be STUNNED at the situations officers wind up in. Explore the Police Activity channel on KZbin. The gunfights cops get into that you never hear about on the news are absolutely insane. They look like something out of a movie. And, you can watch them on body cam on that channel. But, it's real life. Unfortunately, cops need this gear here in the U.S. It's sad, but true.

This video didn't mention PSNI(Police Service of Northern Ireland) are routinely armed on duty and depending on time of year of if there is a security threat there can be 3 officer patrols with at least one of them armed with G36 assault rifle. They still have the armoured Landrovers too although they are being used less and less in standard patrols. "Going at the mercy of the wolves..." kinda says it all tbh. I'm not American but as an outside observer one of the main things that has always struck me about American policing is the "US vs THEM" mentality. You're police officers meant to be serving the community you live in and are part of, not going to war facing an enemy. The whole "US vs THEM" comradery, having each others backs in the trenches is exactly what you need from the MILITARY, not a Police force! Look at UK and how badly we screwed up N.Ireland. UK Gov had a policing and security problem so they sent the freaking British Army in! Over 30yrs of "troubles" and many needless deaths came out of that lunacy. USA even have it in your laws that the military can't be used to police the people so why the hell would you want to model your police forces after the military?
