I grew up in Sydney North West. Hills District around Dural. There was Rich, Middle income everyone and a sprinkling of poor, and we all hung out together. I knew many rich kids with 3-5 siblings that didn’t have a trail bike, and I did, like many boys. Sharing my bike with them was the best idea ever. The boys and girls were appreciative of my generosity, especially for one of the poorer children, and it paid dividends well into my twenties. I had friends that had houses so big that we could running race for twenty metres or more down a hallway or ride bicycles in a used part of the home, often on a lower split level. FFS. I knew an old WW2 soldier who laid over a million bricks for a 5 level house. The master bedroom could fit a lazy 4 king size beds with plenty of room between. My house could fit in 3 bedrooms

Fun fact, my mate purchased a half renovated house a few hours inland from the qld coast, for 85k. It was a deceased estate. The thing is, ALL the supplies to finish the reno was already there. It's 3 bedroom, 2 dining room, 2 lounge room, 2 bathroom and livable attic. On a 1 acre block with a large sturdy 6 bay garage. With him being a good handy man he was able to finish it himself. Here we are 5 years later and it's now valued at 485k. Not a bad profit for his time. Also weirdly enough, I've been after a certain type of old light fitting for over 20 years. Being mostly glass most never survived the decades, so when I did find them they were super expensive. Guess what he found in a box all bubble wrapped in amongst the renovation stuff,,,,, yep,,,,, and he GAVE it to me. This is in a little town called Dallarnil. One of the few towns that does not have a pub lol.

She was interviewed on radio and they kept pressing her about business and she said "One does not talk about these things" lol. Pretty much the only person in Perth who wouldn't talk about money if they had stacks of it. IMO the price would be about $18,000,000.00. I hope it's heritage listed. It is on one acre on the top of the hill in Perth's most expensive suburb (Peppermint Grove). She is from really old money in Western Australia. Not involved in mining at all.

Just for your info. One of the most recognised mega mansions on the Gold Coast has been listed with a new marketing push and an owner who is “very motivated to sell”. Villa Vittoria is set across five north-facing blocks at on the luxurious Sovereign Islands. It has been on and off the market with different agents since October, 2019 - at one point it had a $50m price tag. The resort-style pool at Villa Vittoria. The kitchen. Seller Riccardo Rizzi, a Perth-based civil engineer, put his hand up at a 2013 auction to purchase the property incomplete for $5.3m. He has reportedly spent about $11m bringing it up to its current stage. The mansion, on a 4254sq m lot with 106m of Broadwater frontage is modelled on a 100-year-old chateau and was designed by Brunei architect to the royals, Bayden Goddard. Anyone up for a dinner party? Ivy Wu and Isaac Kim, of Ivy Realty, are behind the latest marketing push. “We are on the market at offers over $35m,” Mr Kim said. “The owner has lowered his expectations and he’s very motivated to sell. The residence at 26-34 Knightsbridge Parade East is set across three levels connected by a lift, with architectural features including soaring voids, spiral staircases and marble columns.

Melbourne is pretty insane, Toorak has houses north of $100mil, Clendon Road I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is the wealthiest street in the suburb, if not the city. Many of the houses there are on estates that were established by the British for high level dignitaries living in Melbourne, and early entrepreneurs that were able to get a foothold in the city in the 1800's. Coonac (65 Clendon Road) is an amazing property and heritage listed - I believe it's only overshadowed by 62 Clendon Road, but both are worth north of $100mil $AUD.

As it started to take shape, I thought it must be another shopping/cinema/ type of building. It was huge but also ugly, ostentatious in this semi rural environment. It stood out like a sore thumb and it is a privately owned residence. If anyone is interested in finding this monstrosity, it is located on Edward Road on the left, just before Switchback Road to the right.

Channel 9 posted a story in 2023 about the huge "pile" on Soveriegn Islands. That's the place with the columns and busts. At the time it had been on the market for three years.Quote, "A gorgeous $45 million colossus in Queensland has been on and off the market for almost three years and closes out 2022 as one of Australia's most enduring listings. The waterfront mansion at 26-34 Knightsbridge Parade East, Sovereign Islands, a luxurious pocket of the Gold Coast's Paradise Point, is a grand villa crafted in a French style by the architect to the Brunei royal family, Bayden Goddard. The brief was to design a chateau that appeared to be a century old. At its asking price, it will set a Gold Coast record. Pricefinder data shows the glam home, with 100 metres of Broadwater frontage, has been withdrawn and relaunched several times on the market since March 2020. It passed in at $28 million at auction later that year."

There are many other areas you could have a look at...We have a lot of exceptional homes here, not all as ostentatious as some of those!

You can’t go on the first picture because it’s sometimes just showing the land but not the house. And if you look carefully at where you are reading the prices it says suburb average price it’s not the price of the house. Most mansions don’t have a price on them because they are sold by auction and Queensland has a law about not even putting a possible price range on a house that goes up for auction. The first house at the Gold Coast would probably be worth around $50 million . Try looking at the cheapest end of the market and you will find that the cheapest houses are over $700,000 and that would be a tear down. You are looking in the wrong place for the price of the house. Zoom out and look at the listing and below the picture where it has the address, they usually put the price or they type contact agent for price.

The one that you liked in Perth that you thought was 10 million but in actuality was only 600K+ the agent's name is what I found interesting. You said that this house could be Australia's millionaire "Gina Rhinehart's" property? The Agent's name is "William Porteous?" Gina's step "Phillipino" mummy was Rose. Rose was the maid who made Rose's daddy SOOOOOO HAPPPY and well fed and house clean. When she married Gina's daddy she became, "Rose Hancock". After the death of her beloved, she remarried a lawyer whose last name is "Porteous". She is now, Rose Porteous. The agent selling this house is William Porteous? Hmmmmm, looks old enough to be that lawyer? Maybe he pivoted into Real Estate in Perth????? LOL

yeah i don't think Australia can hold a candle to the US when it comes to vast sprawling suburbs of fancy mansions. i quite enjoy streetviewing the leafy suburbs of the northeast and rustbelt, and then checking out the interiors of the ones that catch my fancy on Zillow America has so many beautiful houses
