If this was a US documentary, there would have been squealing tyres, police sirens, gunshots and massive creaking sounds dubbed over and the host would sound like he was telling a ghost story to a bunch of preschoolers.

I have seen it in swedish documentaries also. The one that was following the "road heroes" ie recovery vehicles and TMA vehicles, liked to not just edit in sirens, they also like to edit in honking cars. And screeching tires and crash sounds over CCTV footage (sometimes from a different accident).

So true though… also they start like 3 different stories and switch between them every 5 minutes, constantly ‘pushing’ how dangerous or difficult it is, while you can clearly see there are huge margins…

I don't know if "blue clay" is something that means anything more in english than just clay that is blue, but to anyone who has worked with, or on, or in "blålera" (the swedish word for this blue clay), knows that it is... "interesting". So much so that _is_ a cultural reference. "Like working in -melassis- molasses", might be an english parallell. This blue clay was formed duiring ending of the iceage, as the ice cap withdrew northwards. Thus it is most common in northern regions. On the topic of the iceage, it is quite interesting, that the weight of the ice cap, 3-4 km thick, was so heavy, and pressed down on the land beneath it so much, that parts of Sweden, is still rising up almost half an inch per year. Trying to find a "mechanical equilibrium".
@GunnarMiller
@GunnarMiller 5 ай бұрын
It's "molasses". Blue clay, or "Swedish clay" is also found along the coast of Maine; it's part of the same quartz, feldspar, and mica geological formation ground up by glaciation en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumpscot_Formation .

I live in Espoo Finland (right west of Helsinki), and the main renters of superheavy (up to 300 tons) lifting trucks are right in the city. The ones I've seen deployed in truck belly-ups can lift the thing up like a toy. But getting a digger out of clay is something no amount of upwards pulling can do: the power may be there, but the mounting will fail. That's why one needs a digger with an experienced operator, get the conditions right before applying any serious force.

The cable used to pull the 7 tons excavator is at least rated for 40 tons. I assume Sweden has similar norms like Germany which would mean it should not break up to triple the rated load. In this case 120 tons.

So, for Swedish dimensions it's just the neighborhood! 🤪 Friends of us moved to Sweden (Jämtlands Län) and when we wanted to visit them the first time, the way description was like this: "Coming from the south turn left at [main town], drive 40 km until you pass the abandoned fuel station, turn right onto the gravel road, after 10 km keep left and only 5 km further you see our drive way to the left." No gps needed! 😉

Blue clay is a bit like quicksand. It sucks you in and wont let go.
@AltCutTV
@AltCutTV 5 ай бұрын
It escalates similarly too, especially when running an excavator on it as it trigger the effect for two reasons. High pressure, and low frequency vibration. It pretty much phase change the clay very rapidly. Seemingly solid ground turns into a quagmire. The slow burn version of this can also be observed in some cities, such as Gothenburg.

The clay was 10 meters deep. Around 10 yards. And a house was built there! On top of 10-meter masts, inserted all the way to the bedrock. And the terrain around was extremely unstable. Taking the dog out under heavy, persistant rain -- and one could vanish into the clay.

In the Netherlands cranes and equipment like ropes are required to get inspected once a year at minimum and they add tags to them, so you can see when their last inspection was. This should reduce the chances of cables snapping. Nevertheless accidents happen, so best is to stay clear of those cables and never walk under a hanging load.

Agree, I think that ex-Nato military is an MB. The standard heavy wrecker that towed the small white digger is probably a Volvo FH16 and the green one might be a Scania "Myrslok". And yes, Scania SBAT 111 is still very much in use in the Swedish army.

Blue clay nevwr dry out. If its dry it make a thin cheramic like surface. Large machine cam just break throw. Even if the ground look really solid, something like a excavator can break throw and just think. I seen a truck do that in real life. Also often when we build houses on blue clay irs built with a floating foundation. Basically its like a boat. The foundation is drained and will harden the clay closest to rhe house keeping it fixed while the balance of the house and ground will prevent ot from sinking of floating up. In some placed also roads are built that way, but that turned out to be a bit expenive

The 6x6 truck is a Mercedes Benz NG. Wikipedia mentions, regarding Fiat-Hitachi: In 1986, Fiatallis and Hitachi formed a joint venture called Fiat-Hitachi Excavators S.p.A. to manufacture excavators in Italy. In January 1988, Fiat combined their Fiatallis construction equipment subsidiary and their Fiatagri S.p.A. agricultural equipment subsidiary into the new Fiat Geotech S.p.A. holding company. In July 1992, Fiat announced another joint venture between their Fiat Geotech subsidiary, and Hitachi Construction Machinery Company Limited that was called Fiat-Hitachi Construction Equipment S.p.A. The joint venture with Hitachi yielded Fiat-Hitachi and Fiatallis construction machinery branding for different markets until 2002 when Hitachi terminated the agreement. After Fiat S.p.A. purchased Case Corporation in 1999 and formed CNH, they eventually retired the Fiatallis brand within a few years in their remaining markets and merged the company's assets with others from Case and New Holland. CNH's construction equipment lines are called New Holland Construction and Case Construction Equipment.

Seen from the side, that first, four axle, wrecker is an older model Volvo FH cab. The three axle one is a Mercedes-Benz NG cab. If it's an actual Mercedes truck, it's been out of production since 1988. Otherwise it could be a Serbian FAP truck, as they still use that cab. (Yeah, I didn't invent that brand name eh!) 🤭 Could not quite make out the brand of that former military wrecker.

this is why i dont like using big excavators with a short arm next to a big hole. when i look at the excavators position, it looks like they was trying to cut corners and use a to small machine... there is no such thing as solid ground next to a large hole, when you are sitting on top of many ton´s you never know when the ground is not there anymore.. no matter the conditions look at that short arm and that giant hole 2+2 if that is the only tool you have you would dig a ramp first and not be on the top of a edge

I am a gantry crane user myself. 1 of 20T and 2 of 25 T. This is mathematics in practice. Look again. To the position of all drag and lift points. The butt of the excavator is too high. There's the Rotater, hitchhiking. But the center of gravity is further away, due to the extended mast. Now go into your mind. Want to draw lines? That's easier to learn than formulas.
