I love your reaction. I'm an estonian, close to Finland. And our languages are pretty similar, and the thing is we have separate words for literally everything. We don't take a word and use it in 20 different situations just to make the list longer or something, in english, 1 word can have so many meanings depending on the sentence that it makes my head spinning.

The reason why I love Ismo as a comedian is his unique way of looking into things in a new perspective and pointing it out how weird it is. I just recently went to see his live show for the first time and it was amazing. In Finnish of course. :) PS. Greetings from Finland.

I love how Ismo acts more nervous and insecure than he really is. And the fact he is not even tying to siund like an American, or english speaker in general. And the way that he tinks things through. Not a stone left unturned. Today I tried to take pictures using an automat for renewing my ID card. We have to do that every 5 years. When I finally got a picture I thought was ok, the automat, a piece of shit, refused to send it forward. "There has been some problems with the automat today!" "I noticed, perkele!" They reimbursed the costs, but man how difficult it is nowadays. Way back in time it would have taken a couple of seconds, now it was 5 minutes, at least it felt like it. And it can take two bankdays till the money is in my account. So, because it's friday today, I may get the money on Tuesday. I think I've had it, and go somewhere where a human being takes the picture. A good thing is that they send the pictures to the police, so I don't need to go to the police station. Stay Safe! (Everybody) ❤ from Helsinki 🇫🇮

English is actually the easiest languages to learn because you hear it everywhere: in songs, movies, tv etc. I don't think most foreigners can explain English grammar to anyone (there are more exceptions than rules and grammar in general is boring), you just learn by listening and comparing what you've heard for instance to subtitles. Another thing is that it's easy to forget languages if you don't use them for years. They'll come back but with English you don't have that problem. It's the universal language nearly all understand and speak at least a bit and even you wouldn't meet foreigners for a long time - which is pretty difficult even in Finland - you would still hear it on radio and tv. Everything on internet is also in English so at least one can maintain reading comprehension and written skills.

Everything on the internet is in the language you select!!! And I got kicked out of a high school English class because I told the teacher, that other than Latin, English is the hardest language to learn (at least reading and writing). She said I was wrong. I then told her to write, on the blackboard "There are three tu's in the English dictionary, without writing it phonetically." That sentence cannot be written!!! I wrote tu's somewhat phonetically. The teacher said my challenge was ridiculous, and to wait in the hall. Spanish is probably the easiest language to learn, because every letter has the same sound, every time, and every thing has only one word! Two= dos. To= a. Too= tambien...English...laughter= lafter. Daughter= dafter???NOOOO.

Most native speakers can't explain the grammar. And it depends on where you're from when it comes to how difficult it'll be. But yes English is easy to many people. Personally I never felt I had to study English, it just came naturally because here in Sweden it's everywhere and pretty similar to Swedish.

Since Finland is in EU, I wonder why so few foreign movies are from the EU (in contrast to USA). English is in movies and songs only because distributors choose to play them. And because people like them, I guess. Like how many Spanish, Polish or German movies are played in our theaters (before corona)?

This was so nice reaction! ❤️ 😀 And English has been quite easy for me, I think. But I understand it well and speak well but writing is more difficult to me. But american english is much more easyer to me than for example british english, I don't know why... Maybe because in Finnish television you can see more American TV-program's than British, so when I was learning it more and more, I have seen and heard more American programs and learn that ways more. But when I hear British english, I can hardly make any sense it what so ever, only little things here and there. 😀 And when I'm writing poems or songs I always write it in English, even though it's more difficult to me, but hardly ever in finnish, and when I'm singing, I sing in English songs mostly. I just love all the versatility of English language and how it sounds and everything. But that is the only language with my mother language that I can speak and make any sense. 😀🇫🇮💙🇬🇧🇺🇸

Try to do this to finnish. There are plenty of weirdness in finnish language as well. I don't know if it's not common, but personally and some friends enjoy looking at wordplays that take something that's taken granted as an expression to a new context that perhaps fits the literal meaning better, or just applies it to a different use of the word. A friend once constructed "inhohimo" from "intohimo". Intohimo meaning passion, himo meaning lust, into being kinda eagerness, then inho for hatred. The end result is not so far from passion, as sometimes a passionate relationship can be one of those love and hate relationship where it actually is "inhohimo".

I've been lately obsessing about "lumilapio", the Finnish word for "snow shovel". That is, because "lumi" sounds SO similar to "aluminum" - the lightweight metal snow shovels are typically made of. I thought most certainly then that "lumi" must mean ALUMINUM, since "lapio" in Finnish means "shovel" and every snow shovel I've ever seen was made of aluminum. However, aluminum didn't become affordable and commercially available as snow shovels until 1886, so surely Finns' word for snow, "lumi", is far older. So why then does "lumi" sound so much like the root word of the metal, "aluminum" snow shovels are so often made of?? When the metal, aluminum was named after its discovery in 1825, it was likely named for its lightness in COLOR - not its lightness in weight. (This to me is ridiculous, because the most striking feature of aluminum is certainly its light WEIGHT - not its color! :oP ) Thus, the word part, "lumi" (meaning "snow" in Finnish) in both the Finnish word, "LUMIlapio" (snow shovel) and in the word for the metal, aLUMInum is for both snow and aluminum being very light in COLOR - not weight. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_aluminium

@Samisesano 4 жыл бұрын
An interesting and entertaining observation you've made there! I do have slight troubles following your logic though. The word "lumi", with many other weather related words, are apparently the oldest words in Finnish language and hence can be traced at least 1000-2000 years back. The word "aluminum" (or "alumiini" in Finnish) comes from the mineral "alumina" whose name derives from the Latin word "alum", meaning "bitter salt". Since Latin and Finnish are not related languages, similarities between the words lumi & aluminum are merely coincidental. Or maybe that was exactly your point: a funny thought game!! :D

@damienmaynard8892 4 жыл бұрын
@@Samisesano Yes, fun thought game. Like Seppo is a Finnish name while in Australian rhyming slang "a seppo" is an American - (usually a loud and obnoxious one, not all of them). It comes from "septic tank rhymes with Yank".... Close to the subject of the video!

@nathan2813 4 жыл бұрын
@@Samisesano It's hard to say for certain how words evolved - especially in Finland with its long and complex history and that it had no reliable way of documenting that history until relatively recently. That was, probably when the Catholic Church started infusing Finnish culture with its own language and ideas around 1100 A.D. History of Finland The earliest written sources mentioning Finland start to appear from the 12th century onwards when the Catholic Church started to gain a foothold in Southwest Finland.[2] Due to the Northern Crusades and Swedish colonisation of some Finnish coastal areas, most of the region became a part of the Kingdom of Sweden and the realm of the Catholic Church from the 13th century onwards. Chronology of languages in Finland The question of the timelines for the evolution and the spreading of the current Finnish languages is controversial, and new theories challenging older ones have been introduced continuously. The Finnish language is thought to have started to differentiate during the Iron Age starting from the earliest centuries of the Common Era. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Finland

@@nathan2813 Thankfully, Finnish language keeps a record in a manner of speaking. You just need to look beyond the nominative in the dictionary. Lumi - lumen (GENetive) - i to e because the word probably used to be lume (which in modern Finnish is used for placebo and other things seeming to be something they're not. (That one goes lume: lumeen). Possibly something about the way snow works: it hides all nasty stuff you don't want to look at and really changes how things look; it makes everything seem lighter in the darkness when the Sun isn't getting up any time soon... Meanwhile a newer word doesn't change like that: kumi (rubber/eraser) - kumin. (No i to e change for new words).

Regarding how it would've been if you were a foreigner and had to learn english, it depends highly on what your native language was, for example swedish and english are "related" to eachother, while finnish and english are not, I think if you were to study swedish, you would find it easier than when you studied finnish

You need to react to "Wintersun" and shit... and what did we learn from this video? If you do; Loneliness -- Time -- Sons of Winter and Stars Many more good songs, but these are for the views as well. Just do it in that order.

How about another reaction video to Ismo? 🙂 I would srtongly recommend the video on "Chivalry", it is so witty! The video has bad audio, so headphones recommended. You'd be in for some very insifhtfull and funny stuff 🙂 Thanks for thr videos, been a follower for a year.

In Finnish language the word Sh..t is ... Paska, and it can be used in so many ways as well without going to details (I do not Know if this is going to be Extracted because of the finnish bad word)

Hi! As promised I'm leaving another comment. Nope, I'm not gonna try to surprise you this time, not with that word. You would just think I'm a piece of shit if I do and Ismo made most of those jokes anyway. No, I was more thinking that I can show I can be serious, too. I was wondering what's about your Finnish Fridays. Now I get you probably are from Finnish ascend, since you mentioned a word is stronger in english than in finnish.

@@WildwoodVagabond The number of people that learnt English (or some other major language) through games in the past few decades just because games didn't deal with their first language must be pretty significant. I was taught English soon enough anyway but my first language was Scottish Gaelic and I would play games in English before I even started learning English. I felt like I already had my bearings in English just because of the games I played in the language. You simply had to learn a bunch of vocabulary at the very least to make any progress in a lot of games. Pretty good way to get kids a start in a language IMO.

Cause that could be arranged, if those time-tables just match. Well our presidential office is quite open minded for the free publicity made by some youtube stars. Well if you are intrsted, just let me know. Cause i i can try to arrange it to be real
