Thanks mate. In my 59 years here in Australia, I've seen plenty of spiders and snakes. I grew up on a farm. Like America's alligators, bears, wolverines, bobcats, whatever, we learn from a young age to be careful. Snake, or spider bites are a rarity. Cheers.

Yes, it's very rare to be bitten by critters that can kill you if you are careful. I forgot to make a point of that in the first post, death is a rarity. I've been bitten by spiders but never the fatal kind. And I'm not gonna lie, at least once was my own stupid fault - but I knew what it was before it bit me. My uncle made a silly mistake and paid for it with his life. He got bit by a brown snake (because he wasn't careful) and had a heart attack.

The big spider in the last video is a huntsman. Big but not dangerous at all. I have some at our house, pretty common. The big ones give you a fright so I get my husband to remove to the back yard. They do a great job on keeping insects down. Hard to kill unless you hit them with something. Since they can be as big as my hand, the mess is not worth it. 😃

I think that's one thing about australia. There doesn't necessarily need to be a reason to do something, if you feel like doing an odd thing then you go do it. I remember back during slightly post covid, my class organised a get together. the whole year came along but we all broke apart into groups. For some reason we all just decided to get Hawaiian shirts. that was something. Basically the shopping centre (this was a whole year thing, not just my class) had 150 students walking around in Hawaiian shirts. Funny thing was we also met up with our teacher while at the shopping centre. At the time, kmart wasn't letting us in, saying that those who weren't adults weren't allowed in without guardian supervision due to covid restrictions, then our teacher just randomly showed up and said that she was our guardian, stating it was a after school thing XD. so we were all allowed in, cool teacher.

I’ve lived in Australia for most of my life, and I’ve only really come across 2 or 3 poisonous/venomous spiders, now, I’m obviously not an expert but I am a person who loves insects and researched them for hours. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t only go based off of my knowledge, if I see a spider, I’m not gonna touch it unless it’s in a dangerous situation, but based on what I know about spiders, the 3 poisonous/venomous spiders I’ve come across were, A wolf spider, their badasses and there defence mechanisms is so cool, they carry their baby’s in their egg sacks so if you try to stop on them/hit them, hundreds of babies fly out, creating a bigger problem than if you had left to alone. The next is a white tail, one of the ‘most feared’ spiders in Australia, despite not really having a reason to be. They are venomous but their venom doesn’t really do much other than swell up the area you were but and make you itchy, or atleast, that’s what current studies show, I reckon their mainly feared for their looks, as I said, I love spiders but if I saw a white tail I would not go near it. The final is probably one of the most well known, the redback spider, these aren’t extremely common but if you have one, you probably actually have atleast 4 or 5. Their bites can be deadly, but are often just extremely painful and uncomfortable. Their also closely related to the American black widow, but black widows are far more dangerous. Sorry about info dumping, I just love spiders😅

I'm a "see a spider in the house, catch it and put it outside in the garden for the birds" type of Aussie. Recently my 8yo granddaughter was here for a sleepover and there was a spider in her bedroom so I got an empty plastic takeaway container and told her to put it over the top so we could relocate it outside. She was taking it outside in the container with the lid and said, Nan, this is a redback. Sure enough, it was a large redback spider so that one definitely got squashed. They are the only ones I'll squash, all others are safe from me. First time I've had one in the house though. Common enough outside. BTW, I'm in Perth.

Hello Joel. Someone already pointed out that the huge bird is the dangerous animal. You would be in trouble in the UK for driving and phoning, not to mention firing a nail gun at someone, which would be seen as escalating the problem and using a weapon. The correct response here would be run away and call the police.

In most states of Australia im guessing, we also have strict rules about not using a phone whilst driving unless completely hands free. Yeah I'm not sure about the nail gun situation as use of reasonable force is only allowed in self defence. Also we would be expected to leave the situation if possible and call the police. Violent drug or alcohol affected people often need police and hospital support

the NO.1 rule with 4wding, you do NOT "give it gas" unless going up a steep hill/if necessary, in most other situations you go slow / use the momentum and brakes, going fast will only damage your car and damage the track more. And going fast down a hill into water is a no go. You specially go slow if the track is full of steep ruts. It's a very important thing here that 4wd's (solo, group or clubs) take care of th track they're on, and if they're caught driving recklessly all the time then the rangers could issue a wide ban for the area's track being used. (source - my father and his 4wd club that hes been a part of for almost 20years). Also, not sure if its a thing in america, but 4wd tracks in australia are colour coded for difficulty, the more difficult being more steep hills, more ruts, more twisty-turny. Black being the hardest, other colours being grey, blue, red and green.

The guy who phoned the car in front was on his green P plates. When you first get your licence, you are on red Ps (indicating a provisional licence) for a year. This restricts what you can do while driving. For the next two years you have green Ps which have fewer restrictions and then you get your full, unrestricted licence three years after passing your driving test. A driver on red Ps loses the licence if they get 4 demerit points. On green Ps it is 7 demerit points and on an unrestricted licence it is 12. Using a phone while driving carries a penalty of 5 demerit points and 10 in a double demerit period like Christmas/New Year and Easter. That driver is not going to have his licence for very long as there are roadside cameras these days to catch people using phones while driving as well as police on the road to see him do it. He will get caught and for what? That he wanted to get past the guy in front? What a wanker!

The second one when he rang the car in front is illegal in Australia, can't use your fone while driving. Considered the same as drink driving, depending where you are in Australia big fine, points taken off your licence, licence suspension have also heard car being impounded. In holiday period double fined double demerit points in some states.

What they mean by "as of yet no charges have been made", you have to understand that the state can press charges of assault on the tradies if it wasnt deemed necessary self defence. So when they say "no charges have been made so far, that is in relation to everyone who interacted with him, how they acted, if they were hurt do they want to charge them. Do the businesses want to charge him for property damages. Does the state want to charge anyone. All sorts of things needed investigating.

As a fellow arachnophobic, trust me, even if it's a really scary spider, you'll find the courage to stomp or punch it to death if you're in a.. shitty situation..

People freak out about the big spiders because they're huge and ugly but it's the smaller ones that you need to worry about. Redbacks are nasty but then you have the funnel web.

Australia has no more spiders than the USA. Where you are sitting in front of your computer, if you are in a house, there is a spider within two metres of you right now. If you are outside there are probably at least a dozen within a metre of you. Most of them are small and you don't notice them. The huntsman spider in Australia is scary but harmless. I was terrified of spiders when I first arrived in Australia. I still don't like them near me but I've learned to deal with it. When visiting Australia, get a hotel room above the third floor and the likelihood of spiders in your room is minimal.

The RAA is currently following up a study by AU which suggests a newly coined term 'spider fright' could be responsible for as much as 10% of road accidents. This has previously gone under the radar but as more and more people adopt dash and in car cams it is proving to be more common than ever thought. The ABS has never listed it as a cause of death before 2020.
