26:10 Sadly, Lynda Baron's appointment with one of those big black vehicles came shortly after 5 March 2022 when she died aged 82. David Jason is the only original main actor from the first series still alive, but Stephanie Cole (the grim Mrs Featherstone) and Barbara Flynn (the milk woman Granville has the hots for) from later series are still alive.

They have made a series set years later when Ronnie Barker's Albert Arkwright character has passed on and David Jason's Granville has inherited the shop and is in his old age called Still Open All Hours

That generation always wore shirt and tie. My grandad wore a tie even in the nursing home till the end

Exactly! That generation were brought up to always 'dress up' - both sexes. The men would wear full collar and tie, the women full length dresses, or blouse and skirt. No slopping around in jogging bottoms, trainers or tracksuits! They were the last ones to wear hats routinely too. I don't mean beanies and baseball caps and the kind of sloppy headgear of today, but proper trilbies, fedoras and the like!

4 minutes in. Dad is 90, doesn’t wear a tie often, but always fastens top button on his shirt before going out & wears his “Sports Jacket”. My grandad always wore a shirt & tie, even at the beach! It’s just what was expected at that time.

My God, I'd forgotten how much I loved this when I was little. The whole family - parents, brothers, sister, used to watch gathered around our first colour TV every week without fail, fire roaring and cups of hot chocolate in hand. My parents would roar with laughter at jokes with references that went straight over our heads - most of them, in other words! - but we'd all laugh anyway. And the slapstick stuff was something we all enjoyed, of course. I remember that we had to wait quite a few years between series though. I guess Ronnie B and David Jason were very busy with their other stuff back then. I began to get the bluer gags at about 11 years old (around series 3). Playgrounds are arenas of learning ;) What a treat this is.

Looked up Streetview and the Unisex Hair Boutique shop that was dressed up to be Arkwright's store, was still there in 2022. Which is really quite remarkable.

Everyone wore suits in the 70s. Kipper Ties & Flares were the order of the day. Before my time of course but my older brothers wore a shirt & tie at home.

The phrase ‘open all hours’ doesn’t meant 24/7. It just highlights that a shop is is open from early doors right through to late at night. Similar to the 7/11 shops in the U.S. As for shirt and tie that generation wore suites all the time. My grandfather wore a suite into his nineties. My father into his eighties. He would have a smart suit and a casual suit.

Your correct on the age of 35. Shown February 76 and David Jason was 36 on the 02/02/1976. Probably filmed late 75.

Never saw my Taid (grandad) without a shirt and tie, even when I stayed with them, I'd get up, and there he'd be in his shirt and tie.

My Taid would be in his gardening trousers, shirt, tie and waistcoat. (He would take the waistcoat off on sunny days but never the tie). His gardening shoes were brogues too! 😂. Miss him.

My dad was a factory worker so never had to wear a suit and tie for work. But after he retired he would always go out smartly dressed even to go to the local shop.

My grandad was retired. He always wore a shirt, tie, waistcoat, trousers, jacket, and when he went out wore an overcoat, homburg hat and spatz! I remember having to get changed into my Sunday best as a child to go to the doctors. Different times Squirrel, different times. 🤗

Even going into town to the market , men would wear their shirt and tie or suit and the women wore a skirt and blouse, twin set or dress. I remember my nana and great Aunts at home in their crossover aprons, curlers and hairnets but come market day or a bus ride to the town for their 'provisions' they would be dressed up and hair neatly styled. As you say ellesee different times.

You know the dynamic in the Star Wars prequels about a master training an apprentice? That's essentially the picture we get when Barker and Jason are on screen together.

As others have said, my grandad always wore trousers, a shirt and tie when he was out of the house. It's just a generational thing. It's actually quite unfortunate that more people don't put some effort into their appearance these days as i've seen things that would put your "People of Walmart" to shame!
