I've always thought that the Bolton accent just adds an extra few percent to Peter Kay's humour. Speaking as somebody from just down the road, impressions of others using that accent just seem that bit funnier because you can almost see the characters that he's trying to portray. I can relate to it all a bit more as a result.

I doubt you could have missed it, but his show Carshare, is one of the most perfect pieces of television ever, an entire 3 season series that very rarely left the car they shared. He made two series, and was later dragged back by popular demand to make a third series, because people were so invested in the two characters. I think that early in his career, Peter was a warm up man on TV. This meant he might have to deal to 'all ages' audiences, often grumpy after a coach ride to see the show recorded. The warm up person might have half an hour before the show to get the crowd hyped up and in a good mood for the show that’s recording to start. They may step in during delays just to keep things lively too. - but if you haven’t seen Car Share, you should - it will be on one of the players/ hub in the UK - also on KZbin

I was lucky enough to see him live many years ago, before he became really big. Like a theatre that seats a few hundred. Phoenix Nights was on at the time. At several points, I genuinely thought I was going to wet myself! Just a shame that now, its so hard to get tickets to see him.

knowing Bolton where peter kaye comes from, having lived only a few minutes from the phoenix clubs location, i can say that between the time he recounted those anecdotes of the local area and now, its only got worse (also always get Kay and Kaye confused as names due to the inventor of the flying shuttle coming from another local town to Peter Kay, Bury)

I’m going to see him on Friday and I can’t wait. He’s been off the scene for nearly 5 years. The tickets were like gold dust . They were sold out everywhere in about 10 minutes. One of the things I like about Peter Kay is that he is funny in a Lancashire accent! I've always lived half an hour's drive or so away from Peter's stomping ground. So I love to hear the accent. But still, it's universal. Funny is funny, funnily enough 😊
