@@kerryclark7233 Facts. Especially as he had such gentle persona, it's easy to forget just how incredibly powerful he was.... As far as on-screen talent, he was literally King of ITV - one wave of his hand, and whole careers could disappear as if they'd never existed. He only had to pull a face, and Eamonn and Ruth were bounced into oblivion...and let's not forget Holly was handpicked by him to replace Fearne, who's lights he quietly turned out... He should be in jail, never mind on 'Cast Away' trying to revive his lucky career, and Holly (who it is now known to have known all along) should not be allowed within a million miles of a career in anything but she now has the prospect of another show lined up. The old adage is that pretty people are more easily forgiven but, let's be honest, Holly looks like 'Miss Piggy' when fat and, due to her eyes being so far apart and pointing down in opposite directions, like 'Janice' when slim, with Phil as the permanent Kermit. When i was young (many years ago) the stereotypical Brit was introverted, conservative, stuffy, up tight and very much "no sex please we're British" was a describer. America was seen as our open, brash, and extrovert cousin. HOW things have changed. It's a complete 180 now. Anything goes here and America has become what we once were known for. It's an incredible turnaround for our two different societies. Almost none of our popular TV would be allowed on American screens now.

America’s always been like that, it’s just the perception that’s changed
@Tass...Ай бұрын
@@vaudevillian7 That's not the case at all. "Free love" and the home of "adult" entertainment was born in the USA. How many British "adult" movies do you think you could rent from a video store here in the UK in the 80's? NONE. ALL were made in the USA. Most weren't even legal here and sold "under the counter" because of our strict laws at the time. Strip clubs were not a thing here in the USA they were everywhere as were adult theatres. I first visited the USA in 1982 and my eyes were opened. It was like another world with the freedoms on offer. Now The US is timid compared to how it once was. "free speech" is a charade. as are most freedoms of expression. Americans are now easily insulted, canceled or having to hide their personalities to conform. Did you know that there is only one country on the entire planet that has enacted more new laws in the last 10 years that remove peoples freedoms than the USA? That country is China. I have lived through this sismic change of attitudes. It's real.
